I still can’t get over the fact that she grabbed the poor mother and drug her away. Hello, basic first aid DO NOT MOVE a victim who possibly could have a spinal cord injury!
Yijing,
I am so glad you are here.
I am horrified by what you have endured, and I am so sorry the law does not allow for more jail/prison time.
My brother was hit by a driver who was illegally driving a rental car and texting - he’s still alive, but bed-ridden and my elderly parents do nothing but care for him. He has severe brain damage and do you know, this girl go away with everything? It’s been 5.5 years, and the anger (while less frequent) is no less real. The lack of justice is something that can change you.
You are in my thoughts and prayers. If you ever need to chat, just message me. I truly get the anger.
What an unimaginable horror. I am so sorry for your loss and for this horrible experience. The only good thing that could come out of this awful situation is a measure of justice for you. I hope Nicole serves time for her crime.
The statement by Nicole, lengthy one, doesn’t make sense; it’s garbly and rambling. Hope Nicole is in jail now. She blames the victims…how pathetic…no common decency…hate to think of how she trains horses…
Yijing…please ignore the nay sayers. Feel free to speak your mind in any way you want. I stand with you. I can’t imagine what you have been through. My deepest condolences. Kindest regards.
She’s out of jail!
I was just thinking about this several days ago. There was an incident I saw in the news of a woman running over a mother and her daughter, killing the four year old and driving away. She was stopped several blocks away by the police and claimed she didn’t know but they have surveillance footage. I immediately thought of this…
We had a couple of cases here when a driver got “distracted” by something that’s not a phone - trying to get something off the floor, for ex - and the penalties are laughable. Unless you’re impaired or on your phone, the law sees it mostly as an unfortunate accident, even if you run down pedestrians crossing with a green pedestrian sign, even if you jump a curb and run them down on the sidewalk.
The initial article says this one was distracted by a dog in the car. I don’t see why you can be properly punished if you’re staring at your phone, but it’s mostly ok if you’re staring at your dog.
Too bad that poor young lady will probably never see any of that 18million dollars.
At the end of the article it says that the drive only served 5 months in jail. Sigh.
Holy crap. I had no idea any of this ever happened. That poor girl, and her mother.
But, that comment?? I really hope that was a troll and not actually the chick that did it. Because, seriously? “I was driving and felt my dog move (???) then heard screams and had to BACK UP to the people screaming”, but you didn’t think you hit them? Talk about some serious mental gymnastics to convince yourself you were innocent.
What an awful awful story. The poor young woman who witnessed this happen to her mother. I can’t even begin to fathom the trauma and grief.
But the guilty party only got 1 year in jail for vehicular manslaughter? That’s awful. Absolutely awful.
I’m really glad the lawyer who handled the civil case seems to have done a solid job of speaking up, and speaking out for this poor daughter, and what she and her mother experienced. I hope the daughter has continued support if this civil legal process drags out longer.
Concealedweapon17 who chimed in claiming to be the victim was the “chick that did it”.
Wow. I can’t imagine hitting a person and then going on about what an ordeal that was for yourself.
In most states, people who commit vehicular homicide do not serve much time at all. Whether it is drunk driving or speeding or reckless driving or whatever. Because too many prosecutors and judges and jurors and defense lawyers drive drunk often. I saw it for 30 years in courts.
sign up for jury duty and hold all of them responsible
My god, how awful. Even if you never see a penny of that money, I hope that judgment gives you some satisfaction Yijing.
The fact that she moved her car after hitting the pedestrians and didn’t try to get help is beyond distracted driving. This is leaving the scene of an accident, failure to render aid.
And why in the world is anyone blaming the OP for posting this? Wouldn’t you want to know the moral and ethical character of your trainer, or prospective trainer?.
