I think he did contest it but the protest was not accepted
I think it would leave a bad taste in everyone’s mouth if the protest went thru. There would be an asterisk by the winner’s name. Since there were so many broken pins, I just don’t see how the protest would have merit. I love Michi and wish he would win, but that just isn’t going to happen this time.
Seeing some of the galloping is fine. It just seemed like they were showing a lot of galloping and cooling the horses down at the finish and were missing some important jumping.
There is supposed to be a report on the 2nd jog results, if anyone finds a link. And then I’m sure we’ll see revised team standings and revised order of go for SJ. Some of these teams may be re-constituting themselves for the show jumping.
The idea that someone might show jump who has not ridden either dressage or XC is something I’m not sure I can get used to. Is that an allowed substitution?
I can see teams putting anyone on any horse into the show jumping, just to be able to say that at least they completed.
All that said, I am happy and relieved that Yoshi gets to show jump. Even if it is not the scenario that helps his team much. It’s the Olympics in Japan, he has got to be riding in this, he’s been working for this for so so many years.
Can someone clarify how Phillip brought his entire family to Tokyo and yet paraolympians aren’t even able to bring their support person due to Covid regulations?
I am thinking about the Swedish team and am very confused. They had three riders complete dressage (Therese, Louise, and Ludwig). Before XC, they substituted Sara for Ludwig. For XC, Therese went out first (with her lovely Viscera). She fell off. Louise went out second and got a TE. Sara did not start. And yet Therese, Louise, and Sara all presented at the 2nd horse inspection and show up on the team standings ahead of Thailand. Say what?!? A nation that didn’t even start three riders in XC gets to show jump? That makes no sense at all.
Course maps for eventing jumping finals - looking forward to seeing the fences - they are usually beautiful at the Olympics!
Team:
Individual:
He posted at some point that each horse gets to have two owners attend, and his owners declined due to Covid restrictions, so his wife and daughter were able to come in those places. And it is certainly not any riders’ fault for using the opportunities that are offered, but every time I think about it, it makes me so angry that they wouldn’t allow the para-Olympians to bring their support people like the blind swimmer’s mother when a horse has a groom and two owners!! It makes no sense whatsoever.
Order of Go:
So no one from Thailand is jumping, but the three Swedish riders (one of which didn’t even run XC) and the two remaining Brazilian riders (one of whom is a new sub) are??? And the two remaining Polish riders? And all 4 of these teams will still earn team scores???
Every time I think I understand they manage to surprise me again.
Where is the head exploding emoji when you need it?
I know the intent of the new rules was to allow more teams to “complete” the competition, but when you adjust it to the point that the completion is meaningless… I guess the thinking is that even an astronomical number is better than a letter.
Very curious if the Thai team could have continued but maybe chose not to.
I’m still trying to figure out the Swedish team as well. I am glad that they are getting to ride. And the scores are not competitive as individuals or as a team, so they aren’t gaining a medals advantage.
But otherwise … is this eventing? One rider + one horse take on three challenging disciplines?
This is what no one was able to explain about how this works in the whole run up to the Olympics. I’m not sure what this is called, but I am glad that people get to ride. I’m just not sure what they are riding to achieve, exactly. Except they came a long way to be here, so they do get to ride their horse. Or something.
and why in the name of Sam Hill are they not going in reverse order?
i think they are, but running all the indiv in reverse order first,
In the Olympics they go in a scramble of reverse order , but by team. So there is a team rotation smashed in there.
The no-team riders are going first, then the teams.
Colleen Loach 8 faults.
Lots of long shadows showing on the ground due to the evening sun…
The jumps are so pretty, but dang 9a and b are not riding well.
I really like the Austrian horse.
I think Colleen was the only one to leave 9A up, then took 9B down
substitution means that is a fresh horse for SWE
clearly not much of an advantage as she took 3 rails
I believe they could not, because Arinadtha had a horse fall and that is one of the few situations in which you must sub out. I don’t think they have a sub rider, so the team cannot complete.
…except I think they can “complete”, she’d just have a score of 100 for show jumping non-completion to add to the xc score of 200 for non-completion. So I don’t know why the others aren’t jumping.
Clear as mud?
Oh no, a sub for Japan. Yoshi will not show jump after all. Such a shame - I, too, really wanted him to have a final day in front of at least some of a home crowd.
