Official Tokyo Olympic Eventing Thread

Peacock. I just went through this and ended up going to the Xfinity store to I find out how to make sure I could see the Olympics. I have Xfinity TV and internet …it turns out it is free for premium. They showed me that it is already on my TV…but they also showed me how to download the app on my phone and ipad… sign in…and it actually also works now on my iphone and my ipad.
My brother has Xfinity internet only…so they are sending him some box that he needs to set up to get peacock.
He has not gotten the box yet…so I do not know if he will have trouble setting it up.
I believe you can get peacock on other products…but I am not sure…
Of course…I felt like a dunce that I could not figure out how to get it myself …

Larksmom, check out the link I posted. Looks like NBCOlympics.com is a separate entity.

So there was a US Eventing social media story today that had followers ask questions. One of the questions to the team members was “If the team riders switched horses with each other, which horse would they pick?”

PD and DP picked Mai Baum.
Tamie picked Z.
Boyd had the best answer: Main Baum for dressage, Vandiver for cross country, and Z for show jumping.

This is totally the best answer! Also the selection I would make

Very interesting they all pick Maui Baum yet he remains the reserve lol.

For anyone who wants to watch the live streams, CBC is live streaming all the equestrian events. List is here:

If you can’t watch it because of your country use a free proxy online, just google “free proxy” and use one of the websites to paste this website and you should be able to watch.

You will also be able to watch on their CBC app which you can get on your phone or apple tv/android tv.

Some more great podcasts…if you aren’t a podcast listener I really suggest trying it out for these ones, so much great information about whats happening with the riders and the horses. Lots about travelling and what will happen once they arrive. Doug Payne interview here:

USEA podcast out this morning. Duvander confirms US horses shouldn’t have much trouble acclimating to Tokyo humidity, and therefore have not been galloping in rugs.

Turner classics is running 24 hours of Olympic films starting with 1912 at 5 am CDT. They actually showed some of what would have been dressage, and some of cross country too. Probably less than 5 minutes of footage but it was neat to see.

This is definitely making me hate the 3-person team format even more than I already did!! I really hate that we don’t get to see what Mai Baum would do, too bad we don’t have an individual slot for them to at least get to compete!!

Another opportunity in only three years time.

Horse & Hound is reporting Ros Canter will replace Piggy March on the GB Team. No particular reason given so far.

Nooooooooooooooo not that I don’t love Ros or think she is fab…I just love Piggy so so much. Gutted.

Piggy withdrew. Sounds like owners did not want to fly the horse to Japan which is totally understandable.

I’m not sure about that. You don’t get to the staging area for the Olympics and then suddenly decide you don’t want your horse to fly to Japan. What it sounds like to me is that the horse wasn’t feeling 100% in some capacity and rather than risk the trip, they made the decision to put the horse’s welfare first and withdraw before they got on the plane (though maybe that’s what you were trying to say without so many words).

I can totally understand that! Piggy IS a very good horsewoman, just admire her so much.

But imagine your replacement for Piggy is the current World Champion  They have SUCH depth in the UK.

Interesting, I had forgotten that the shift in dates for Tokyo means we aren’t quite as far away from the next Olympic chance. It will still be pushing it a bit with age for Mai Baum, but certainly not out of the question!! If things continue to go well, seems like there would be a good chance of seeing them on the team at WEG 2022, also.

well the world championship will be NEXT year and I think they will use 4 man teams. I see Mai Baum as a real possibility.

I also adore Piggy (and her YouTube videos!) and was disappointed she was reserve - now even more disappointed. Ah well, there’s always Paris.
