This year we have the Europeans too.
you do, we don’t!
yeah…might be a thread idea but why dont we have North American champs? I know we have Pan Ams…but us Canadians don’t even get a National Championship.
I love Piggy, but I’m so excited for Ros Canter. She’s one of my favorite riders because she’s such a tiny little person who rides such enormous horses (and does so with such grace).
Yes! I’m going to be watching her riding closely, I’m a shortie on a biggie right now…need all the help I can get That was one thing I love about Piggys YouTube Channel…she is also a very small rider that I can learn from.
Team Canada. Unless I missed it, I am disappointed that I have not seen congratulations to Jessica and Colleen from the other candidates in Canada. I just saw a really heartfelt post of support from Will F. for the USA team heading to Tokyo. Wiil G. and Will C. must be so sad not to be selected. Even with all the drama in the selection of riders for Canada, you would think the bad feelings might be put aside for at least a little while as the riders head to Tokyo.
Yeah…not a lot of support for the Canadians at the moment.
Then on the opposite spectrum, check out Piggys instagram post…she’s a class act all the way, and wishes her teammates the best at the end.
@Jealoushe yes, she is.
I think the owner’s decision not to send Brookfield Innocent as a traveling reserve is understandable, from their position, though also super frustrating for Piggy, of course. That’s a long trip for a horse when chances are you won’t be competing. Have other owners made similar decisions in the past?
Also, Piggy referenced London. What happened to her attempt to get on the team then?
Maybe they were waiting to see whether any soundness issues popped up with the confirmed three. And if the three of them didn’t appear to be showing any risk of a soundness issue, the chance that Piggy’s horse would travel all the way to Tokyo for no reason was greater. There was an Australian show jumper alternate that withdrew at the last minute since it didn’t look like he’d be needed.
To me, this is the only legitimate excuse. I’m surprised that Piggy openly admitted that the owners said if she and her horse were selected as one of the three they would go, but since they’re reserve, they won’t and they leave it at last minute to Ros and her horse to go through the arduous process. The current format is no drop score. If you want to be a contender for the Olympics, that’s what you’re dealing with. I wonder if the selectors would consider their decision if these owners ever own another Olympic horse?
*ETA: None of this is directed at Piggy, just the owners.
Im wondering if with European championships coming up the owners want the horse to go there instead??
If i was an owner I would follow a statement made by a major league baseball player many years ago when it came to the All-Star game: “If I ain’t startin, I ain’t departin.”
Answers to all your questions here…worth it to watch the whole thing.
Very real, very raw. Heart goes out to Piggy, but her time will come.
I just listened to the USEA podcast…I had to laugh when Duvander said they didn’t need to train the heat because the horses are used to the Pennsylvania and Virgina heat… LOL Pennsylvania? I truly hope they realize just how much hotter Tokyo is actually going to be than freaking PA.
Vandiver I do agree should be good to go from growing up in Alabama. Vandivers owners/breeders are also going to Tokyo so that is pretty cool.
All of this discussion may be for not…
Oh, my heart just breaks for her. There isn’t anyone I’ve rooted for more to have their place to shine than Piggy.
Ros Canter goes.
That would be awful if the horses got sent home.
Wow, that video. What a champion.
