Ogilvy Half Pad.. HELP!

So after I had a dream about an Ogilvy half pad a few days ago I decided that I am finally going to go ahead and spend the money to get one. Does everyone that has an Ogilvy love them? Also, I CANNOT decided on what color combos either. I follow Ogilvy on Instagram and see all the different combos but still cant decide. I was thinking the base/body be white then the piping/binding be blue and red. How does the white color hold up with everyday use?

Thanks!

I love my Ogilvy and so does my horse. I bought a plain white one second hand. It gets dirty but does come out clean when I wash it in the washer (you can remove the pads and just wash the cover.

If I was custom ordering one I’d get something darker though, as you will notice the dirt or stain from sweat/horse/saddle after one ride.

I have one with the color combo you are talking about! My horse and I love it! Agree that it gets dirty, but does come clean after washing.

Thank you both! Redhorse98- could I see a photo by any chance?

I love mine, I hurt my back in the fall and though I was over it until I hopped on a friend’s horse a few weeks ago without an Olgivy, every canter stride jarred my back unless I was in a half seat.

I got a black one with grey trim, it never looks dirty, and it’s classy enough to look good with any colour jacket or horse when showing. I bought it off the rack though so it doesn’t have piping unfortunately.

Sure, going to the barn later today, will take some pics.

It’s gorgeous but to be honest, I don’t love mine. Compared to my sheepskin half pad, I find it too springy and I feel it really sits me up on top of the horse instead of making feel wrapped around the horse (I did like it on a very high withered horse I had). They also freeze in the cold, which makes a little concerned about the material’s performance under different temperatures (ie, when the horse’s back get hot).

I’d see if you can try one first.

Interesting, I’ve never heard of one freezing before and I’m up in Canada with an unheated tackroom lol. Was is put away sweaty and then froze? Or do you just mean it’s less “springy” when it’s cold?

I agree it does feel like you’re sitting more on top instead of wrapped around so that might be personal preference, I don’t notice it anymore.

I love my Ogilvy! I have a half pad in black with red binding and white piping (didn’t choose the colors) and 2 baby pads. I am ordering another half pad and baby pad for my horse’s birthday in March. I’m in Canada too and no issues with using them in the cold. My horse has very high withers and he loves his Ogilvy.

I have a white that gets dirty really quickly so I bought a Brown one that is just so gorgeous with my dark Brown saddle. Let me see if I can find a picture…

I’ve never had mine freeze and I’m in Ontario (-30 a lot). Are you sure yours is legit or not a lemon?

I love mine!

Ogilvy suggested oxyclean in the wash when you are trying to get them white and shiny again!

Maybe get a darker half pad for everyday schooling, and a white cover for shows/clinics? The covers are pricy, but I love the idea of colour coordinating!

I’m custom ordering one in black with grey trim and white piping

Does anyone know if Oglivy pads would work for a horse with uneven muscling? I’m about to trade my Mattes pad in for something I can shim on the right, and was going to go for a shimmable Thinline half pad… but I’m curious about these.

Thanks, everyone. Now I have Ogilvy half pad envy! I was already eyeing them after the GM clinic. Sigh.

Question- do people show in the ones that have colored binding/piping? If so, just subtle colors, I assume? Someone mentioned covers for them, but I haven’t seen those advertised. I have a black saddle (gasp!! It probably wouldn’t matter what pad I showed in since I’m already shunned for a black saddle!!), so I’m thinking about the black base color, but torn on the piping.

I needed room in my tack room so i put it in my trunk outside (Canadian prairies). It wasn’t ice hard, but like a well frozen gel pack. Definitely a different consistency.

Mine was custom ordered directly from ogilvy through Jack, but maybe they’ve changed since I got it in 2010?

I ordered mine back in December and it is shipping out Monday, I can’t wait to receive it!

I want a darker base one for schooling, what would everyone recommend? I just can’t keep up on keeping the white clean that I currently have!

If you scroll though the facebook page, there are many examples of colors & combinations & embroidery
