I feel so bad for you having to deal with all this…

I am afraid I haven’t read the whole story, but where did she find Tommy? Did she just see him in your field?

I guess its better that they want to “settle this in the ring” instead of in the parking lot. Sheesh, talk about crazy!

Are you and this kid even going to be showing in the same classes? I’d be worried about what would happen if and when you beat them… Maybe you should have your cop friend go with you to the first show.

or you could just have a bunch of COTH members show up and cheer you on…

Un-freaking-believable!!!

I’m all about setting the record straight. If you can find out the psycho mom’s email address then Hell, I’d go ahead and forward her the emails so she can see for herself. Or perhaps make copies and mail them to her. Such a shame that this trainer is feeding their heads so full of lies and it’s an even bigger shame that the child is seemingly caught in the middle of this drama and had to witness her mother acting like an ass in public.

If this is going to be settled “in the ring” then at least it won’t be just your horse beating hers.

I am so sorry you have to deal with this. And just remember, that a woman of that age who vents her spleen on a 17 year old is (1) nutso and (2) a whackjob.

But hey - I’m going to the Olympics too! And even though I do dressage, how about if I do jumping in the Olympic trials just to knock her daughter out of contention? That way I’ll take the heat! And I’ll call my horse Tommy - he is black in winter…if necessary, we’ll spray paint him so he matches “Tommy’s” color job, okay?

I feel bad for you having to deal with this, I really do, but it still is funny in a pathetic sort of way. You sound like you did a great job handling her, and I sure not much more will come of it. I doubt her daughter is a very good rider, so even if you show in the same classes together, you probably won’t be the only one beating her ;).

Caitlin

holy crap I am sorry you have to go through this, but I have to admit, I do like reading about your stories…

Obviously mom is equally as off her rocker as said “trainer.” Who would thought?

But I wonder, doesn’t mom think it’s the least bit peculiar that she and her daughter never even met the horse or you? That daughter never tried the horse if he as in fact for sale?

What a complete freak. I know you aren’t in any way interested in this “settling it in the ring” but I do really hope that when the time comes- beat the pants of this girl. For the mom and trainers sake- not for daughters- she’s probably an innocent party…but who knows.

I don’t think I would forward the emails to the mom though- seems like she has the wool pulled pretty far over her eyes and that might rekindle the crazy trainer…
she proceeds to tell me how I was a horrible person for agreeing to give them my horse, then jacking up the price, then backing out on the deal all together. How could I do that to their daughter? I should be ashamed of myself and not be able to attend the shows without being embarassed, because if she has anything to do with it, the whole circuit will hear about it!
 Wow… clearly the trainer, in an attempt to keep her client happy, concocted this whole story. She probably told them the horse was an absolute given, and then perhaps that is why she freaked on you when you said you were not selling OR leasing.

What a nightmare!!! Seriously, horse people make me wonder sometimes.

Glad he’s chipped, and that you’ve taken the appropriate measures with the attorney, etc.

And THAT, ladies and gentlemen, is why we have spoiled brats in our show rings, who cannot ride but think they can because they have idiots for parents who believe EVERYTHING their trainers tell them.

Honestly, I wonder if it even occurred to psycho mom to ask current trainer how many kids she’s brought to the Olympics? Or even has participated in the riding career of any olympic rider?

Doesn’t make the OPs situation any better, but honestly, this mom’s stunt shows what she’s made of. Hopefully she’ll pull a repeat performance at a show, and get herself AND her kid and trainer excused.

and it just keeps getting weirder

Well if mom has her sights set on the Olympics, then she should know better than to have her daughter riding at the local level.

Why was this kid trying on tall boots this weekend at a local tack shop? She should either be down in Florida or busy this weekend in the saddle qualifying for Pony Finals.

I don’t get it.

Very well said. I was thinking about that these unrealistic expectations and completely inflated sense of this girl’s abilities is ultimately going to do to this kid, especially once she grows up and realize that well, no, the world really does not revolve around her. Whatever.

Where do these nut jobs come from?

oh my … that trainer is definitely a candidate for that new Facebook page on dishonest trainers. Seriously tho’, I wouldn’t add her there or forward the emails to psycho mom. I think you handled the confrontation in the store very well.

And count me as one who agrees you are mature for your age. At 17 I would have fallen apart in that scenario.

Like attracts like, so it’s no wonder this woman chose that trainer…

And I agree with you on the confrontation. It just makes you want to sink into your boots, huh? Ick…

Next time, just use what Little Bill learned. If someone says something weird or untrue to you just say … “so?” … and look at them like they have eyeballs growing out of the top of their head on stalks

Geez lou-eez! I’m sorry this is happening to you, fleur, but it makes for great entertainment for the rest of us.

I don’t think you really could have handled the tack shop confrontation any better. When people are acting crazy, it’s really better not to engage. (And my inner spiteful bitch says she just made herself look like a raving lunatic and you look very sympathetic to everyone within earshot!)

Though I will say my mental movie playing as I read the OP did include a bit of imaginary dialogue regarding the Olympics …

Crazy Mama: “How dare you blame SuperTrainer, when your unethical morals have crushed, yes, CRUSHED a 12yro’s dreams of going to the Olympics!”

Fleur: “Oh, well, then, this is all just as well. Even if Tommy/Winston WERE for sale, there’s no way he would ever make it to the Olympics. He’s a sweetheart, but just not that good a horse. I’m sure SuzieQ is better off with the Arapintawhatsit. Nice to have met you.”

(Fleur exits stage left.)

:eek::eek::eek: What a lunatic!! “Arapintaloosa”?? WTF?? Stay far, far, far away from them. And do NOT forward any sort of email or correspond with them in ANY way - NO CONTACT is what you should aim for.

Sue the witch for slander if she said this in front of your friend and anyone else in the store. And if she tells anyone else, sue her again for more money.

Obviously the mother is rich, since she can afford an arabpintaloosa.
Did I spell that right? I’ve seen what was described to me here as a pintaloosa, who was so swayback it was sad, but I’ve never seen the threepete:lol:

Sounds like the mother and trainer are perfectly matched, and maybe the daughter has inherited the problem.

Is this the crayola trainer? If so, we need her address.

I am amazed at how well you handled the situation! I definitely wouldn’t do anything that would rekindle crazy trainer’s insane obsession with your horse, but at the same time, you don’t want the mother or the trainer to start spreading these lies to others who don’t know you yet and thereby take away your reputation. Although I have this weird feeling that no one would believe psycho mother anyway:D…especially after what she said to you in the tackstore gets around to everyone else. Anyway, congrats on the way you handled yourself!

Wow, you poor thing! I’ll tell you if you were my daughter I would hunt that lunatic down and tell her if she ever assaults my child again, then I’ll be the one to SETTLE things!!! And it won’t be in any show ring, that’s for sure!

I cannot for the life of me understand what makes any adult think that they can confront a minor in any way!! You are a child! Well compared to my age, you are to be protected at all costs. I really think your folks need to have a chat with this lady. I certainly would. I would tell her if she ever came near you again I would file a restraining order against her. Adults cannot do this!! I want to be your mom for a few hours and kick her butt!!

And what in all that is holy is a freaking arabapintaloosa??? Sounds like somebody’s stallion got loose and impregnated half the neighborhood. Wanna bet she paid big bucks for it?!!
