The ad says “his papers go with him”. If she were planning on swiping him and selling him how on earth could she manufacture his papers???
Whoever is doing this it’s not cool and VERY worrisome! I definitely think something needs to be done about these ads no matter who is behind them. Here’s hoping Tommy’s still nestled safely in his home!
Well, assuming that all this is true as it’s been related, and crazytrainer IS the person behind the ads, then, I don’t think she has a plan, except that she is Krazeee.
Yep, the three E and a K kind of crazy. Logic does not enter these realms.
I’m thinking this is some kind of pre-April Fool’s Day joke.
Kinda long… but relevant.
Will add my 2 cents with a story to share. I got a call about a year ago from the ATA (American Trak Association) about a mare I had owned a few years back (early 2005). It seems the current owner went on their website just to browse and found a sale ad on there for the mare. She owns the mare and she was NOT for sale and was shocked to see her on there. She contacted them and they pulled the ad. And then they contacted me as I was the name listed as the last owner before her to see if I knew anything. Nope. Nada. I had no idea. Hadn’t seen the mare since she left.
I did ask them if it was an old ad as my trainer at that time put the mare up on their website when I was trying to sell her (Oct/Nov '05). But the date of the listing was Sept 2007. Hmmmm… I remember the ad so they told me the details of the current ad along w/ the picture posted. Nope. Wasn’t my ad. And the price was different. But they had almost all of the mare’s detailed information on it. Bloodlines, etc. The only thing missing was her registration number. So after talking w/ the contact at the ATA for awhile, I asked if she could give me the name of the person who had her listed for sale. Figured they couldn’t for privacy reasons. Well she did. It was my OLD TRAINER and her cellphone number! WTF??? Now, I had donated this mare to a facility that places them in new homes which is how the new owner got her. But that had been over 2 years ago.
So the best we could guess was, the old trainer had a mare that was similar to my Trak mare and was trying to pass it off as my old mare since she was a purebred Trak with good lines… to get more money out of the sale. Talk about desperate. I never found out what exactly happened.
So maybe this person has a horse similar to Tommy and is trying to make it look better in hopes for a good sale???
Interesting…
Or it could be a bait and switch deal… “Oh, so sorry, Winston is no longer available… but we do have this lovely Pintaloosarabian Vanner over here…”

The fact that they associated the name winston with pictures of tommy tells me that the person is either a) the crazy stalker b) a bb member crazy enough to stir the pot or c)someone who has read this thread and inexplicably decided to jump into the fracas. The fact that it is posted in PA points to the first, as it’s far enough away that she probably assumed fleur and those who know her would not be checking the PA craigslist ads.
As far as the papers, I think most horse people have been involved in a sale where papers were promised but somewhere in the intervening time they were “lost.” Those to whom they matter don’t buy, but the remainder usually do anyway…could just be an incentive to get people to call.
Sorry, me thinks this is a hose job.
Alterageous, just FYI. The “Philadelphia” Craig’s List really is THE Craig’s List for Fleur’s area. She lives in a horsey suburb/county of Philly. There’s no Craig’s List just for that suburb/county. The Philly list serves not only the city but pretty much all surrounding counties. The next Craig’s List is Harrisburg and that’s farther from Fleur than Philly. I consider the Philly list to be “my list” and I live in South Jersey. I would NOT assume that whoever posted that ad put it in Philly thinking Fleur wouldn’t see it. To the contrary, I am thinking this obnoxious teenager-stalker type put it there precisely SO Fleur would see it-- to drive her up a wall. Juvenile and obnoxious.

Plus, who knows what is meant by “papers.” Could be any olf jockey club papers and the seller will say "well, his jockey club name is XYZ but we call him “Fluffy” and show him as “Super Fluff.” Or maybe they meant CCHSA registration as “papers.” Or maybe the papers will show up lost… who knows. I don’t put much beyond people who are out to make a quick buck.
But the cheapo price tag and use of the name Winston makes me think bait and switch is probably not the main motivation. The main motivation seems to be to harass Fleur.

But WHY would you post it under “sporting goods”?? Who is going to look for a horse under the “sporting goods” section of craigslist?

for some reason I thought she was in KY. I have no idea why, I think I might have been getting this saga confused with the parent A/parent B thread from awhile back.
That makes more sense now.
EDIT- Read the rest
WHOAAAAA what the FRUITBAT? I emailed as well. Hey, I am looking for a horse after all, and aren’t black horses so pretttttty?
Out of curiosity, I ran a search and can’t find the craig’s list ad. Maybe Fleur will post a link and prove me wrong.
I searched the philly craigslist for “horse” and it came right up. You have to scroll to find it, but it’s certainly right there. If you’re searching within a category, then you might not find it.

I think the “wanted” ad was what he was talking about… which probably has expired by now BUT could have played a part in this.
Perhaps-
Wanted Tommy, couldn’t get him. Put him ad, ad was answered by person with less than stellar horse, but probably looked like Tommy, so he became Winston II. Now, she needs to dump Winston II and used Tommy’s pics.
If everyone is that worried about the craigslist ad why not flag it so it is removed?
Really I wish this was just a “teen” stirring up trouble. I know them and this is all sadly true!

People on the Philly Farm CL suck. I don’t know why. I sometimes post “tack for sale” ads in the Farm section and consistently end up having them flagged because people think they belong in Sporting Goods. People on CL are odd, I can’t figure them out. They’ll flag horse ads in Farm because there’s a rule that you can’t sell dogs/cats and people ASSUME that means CL also prohibits the sale of horses (CL does NOT prohibit the sale of horses and farm animals).
If you try to figure out why CL people do what they do, you’re going to give yourself a headache. I can’t explain it-- but I do know that on the Philly CL, a lot of horsey stuff ends up in Sporting Goods to get away from the mad flaggers in the Farm section.
at this point the add may need to remain up for prosecution purposes as it is now internet fraud.
