Old Navy polos: just buy 20 of them. You'll thank me.

Okay, so they’re not Lacoste or Ralph Lauren or even Ariat, but I just purchased another batch of six Old Navy polo shirts (in tall, for extra convenience in tucking in to breeches!) for fifty bucks including free shipping. On sale (which they always seem to be) they average out to about 8 or 9 dollars each.

I’m not claiming to be a fashion plate but I do like quality items - I have some nice sun shirts that are in my rotation, I love my TS breeches for both schooling and showing, etc. I’m happy to pay for the quality if it lasts. But for me, polos (my daily schooling attire) just. don’t. last. Particularly white ones. So I’ve utterly given up on scrubbing oxyclean into them after every wear and now just cut them into rags when they get gross. The Old Navy polos, while being made of a slightly stretchier material, hold up as well as any of the others in my experience.

I’m sure none of the above info is a secret, but I thought I’d post in light of the fact that Old Navy is having a 25% off sale today with the code SAVE. Get yourself some polos that you can destroy guilt-free. Or stick to your fancy Lacoste if you are one of those sorcerers who doesn’t get dirty at the barn.

A lot of this stuff comes out of the same overseas factories anyway. Sometimes with several brand name labels on the same shirts that get radically different price tags when they reach the stores.

I didn’t know Old Navy made a tall size for polos. I can never find fitted polos that are long enough to stay tucked in. Thanks for posting!

The Old Navy tall is almost too tall for me and I’m six feet tall - they would definitely be comically long on me if I didn’t tuck them in. I think the regular length would tuck in just find but try the longs if you have a long torso!

I actually stopped into the store this morning to try the half-zip wicking tops that were mentioned on the winter riding shirt thread and bought a couple for myself!

And maybe I couldn’t stop myself from buying one of their short down puffer jackets. They’re really perfect for frigid days at the barn.

And then I got home and realized everything was a good $5+ cheaper online so don’t make my same mistake - order online, use the SAVE 25% off code and get an extra shirt or two.

I LOVE their quarter zips for winter riding in Florida! They are perfect as a single layer and work perfectly under a vest for the colder days. I currently have 4 and will be ordering more soon!

Their sales are awesome. I really only shop there online when I get an email.
I have one 5 min from work, so if I order online and it doesn’t work out, I can exchange or return right there. Win!

Thanks for the heads up! Just loaded up!

Just a heads up, Old Navy has KILLER deals after the holidays. Their black Friday and after Christmas are awesome. I usually stock up every year.

Thank you! I had rewards certificates to use. 7 polos for $25 - hasahorse for the win.

Hands down! And I thought I got a good deal…

Thanks. The Land’s End polos and Ralph Lauren polos that I bought 20 yrs ago have worn out at the cuffs! Seriously they lasted that long being worn all winter under sweatshirts. The Lauren ones were shorter, but those Land’s End were long enough. Might try the old Navy and see how long they last.

Funny timing on this post, as I almost stopped into an Old Navy last night! Their Performance Fleece is my go-to for (inside) winter riding. They’re less than $20 a pop and for me, a fleece on top of an Under Armour-type top is all I need while I’m on a horse in the winter. Thanks for the tip on checking on-line vs. going into a store!

ETA that Old Navy is also 2% back on Ebates. Not great, but it adds up!

I live in Old Navy fleece for riding in the winter. Even wear my “nice” fleece for clinics and lessons.

Thanks for the education!!!

Thanks! I got a couple of the half-zip shirts. Just what I had been needing.

I wouldn’t shop at Old Navy if your criteria is that you want it to last for 20 years. I love Old Navy’s cheap prices, but I shop there for fashionable items that I won’t want to wear in a few years like gray skinny jeans. Their clothing wears out pretty quickly.

To be fair, I don’t know if any clothing manufacturer is still making items that will last 20 years. Maybe Land’s End (although I’ve heard their quality has dropped) or LL Bean? Certainly not the Ralph Laurens, they are generally very fitted (read: thinner and stretchier) now too.

I don’t typically wear anything to the barn that needs to last because I’ll quickly ruin it with horse snot, Thrush Buster, iodine, mud, horse poop, blood, sweat, and tears.

If you really want to save money (for schooling only) , buy a couple $70 bicycling jerseys and they will last 10 years and have back pockets to store stuff for kicks.

Can I ask a sizing question? Does everything still run really large there?

I don’t usually shop at Old Navy because I don’t like supporting big box stores and I like to buy my every day riding stuff used, but I actually do need some new polos. The last time I was there was many years ago and nothing fit me- it was all too big or so cheaply made it fit weird. Has that changed? Thanks!
