"Old" Pedigree

Not a regular poster in the Racing thread, but…

A friend of mine just acquired a 10 y.o. OTTB mare. Although she and her daughters have much experience retraining OTTBs for eventing, they are not so much pedigree readers. I am not an OTTB person–know my riding and handling limits–but I find pedigrees interesting, regardless of the breed. So, I find this mare’s pedigree interesting, “old-fashioned” even. Maybe I’m wrong and some of you who are experts can correct me. Wouldn’t it be uncommon to find such a young horse with Ribot in the third generation and War Admiral and Hyperion in the fifth?

Always love to see “old” blood up closer - so where is the link to this cool pedigree?:D:cool:

Increasingly rare, but not unheard of. I’d also love to have a name to look up–I’m especially fond of seeing War Admiral in the first five!

I love to see old lines up close. My retired boy’s pedigree is borderline Jurassic - Man O’ War himself shows up in the fifth, along with War Admiral, Sickle, Tourbillon and Prince Rose. Ribot appears in the fourth.

And here’s a picture of the noble steed:

Swoon! HarvestMoon, what a cool pedigree! Courtly Dee! Wow, how fun.

I know, right? Here’s a pic:

Just looked at the posted pedigrees and pics. How cool to have Man O’War on that pedigree, johnnysauntie! And harvestmoon, I’m not expert enough to recognize a lot on your horse’s pedigree, but he is beautiful!

I’ll play along…

Here is my boy’s pedigree.

I love this horse and miss riding him. He is 28 now and happy just hanging out with his friends:-)

You like Tourbillon?

My old OTTB. For real breeding trivia, Head Play down there in the same gen as War Admiral? By My Play, who is by Fair Play out of Mahubah, so my old boy was inbred to Fair Play and Rock Sand using Man o’ War and his full brother.

Lucky, meanwhile, is a few gen removed, with Olympia one generation back from where he was on Bold McKinnon’s pedigree, but he has double that blood (and it shows. Olympia outsprinted a quarter horse once, and Lucky is…not a distance horse.) But that female family they both have–I often wonder if that’s where they both got their brains from as they are/were supremely levelheaded.

I had a Dove Hunt mare with exactly the same head - what a pretty girl!!

Lad’s isn’t too young or old… but I love it.

And Nick, one I had before Lad was definitely a cool older pedigree…

This one is not mine, but belonged to a former BO:

She is/was a beautiful mare, what I imagine TBs should all look like…

Sadly I don’t have the pic of him sailing over the hurdle during his win. But he handled the size of NSA hurdles without blinking.

Funny thing is what’s not clear in his pedigree is that he’s a relative (through the dams) to a celebrity… He’s Congaree’s uncle. (Out of his half sister)

My guy has some pretty old blood up close also:

My two (recently deceased) older loves had some great lines up close. It still breaks my heart I didn’t get a foal from either before they passed.
