Oliver's Excellent Western Adventure!

Oliver made his western show pen debut a few weeks ago!

Sadly, he also has seedy toe that has resulted in almost 1/2 of his hoof wall being cut off his left hind, and as a result we only did the showmanship classes.

But participate we did, and it was a blast. After a red ribbon in the English showmanship, we hauled ass down the hill to change for western, and came back up the hill in our World Championship attire and Gorilla Tape!

The jacket was custom made for a lady who went to the Buckskin Worlds a few years ago, and the halter went to the Appy Worlds in the mid 80s. Thank you, eBay and Tack Trader, for making sure I had a $900 custom showmanship jacket for almost nothing. And I bought her black scalloped chaps as well.

Our competition was fierce! Despite being a show at our barn, we were up against three people who had ribboned at AQHA Worlds, BBer Mypaintwattie who takes high point in everything she does, and another gal who was about as green as I was.

Six horses, green ribbon for us of course, but I swear I had more fun than anyhone else, what a great day!

Here are some photos - the earrings and the bling number magnets came along with the jacket. The hat is a cheap ass one I got at the local feed store for next to nothing, which is quite obvious ha ha ha.

You can see the Gorilla Tape on his left hind.

Best part is that the show raised a bunch of $$.

Very nice! He is one georgeous, if large, SMS horse!!!

What a total giggle! You two look great!! Can’t wait till the next time when you dip your toes–hopefully, fully healed–into the WP showpen!

Dang, he looks terrific!

Thank you, he was even sporting a fake tail!

He was two hands taller than any other horse in the class, which in itself was hysterical. He did sort of square the first time and did it perfectly the second time (we had to do a pattern, it was hysterical). But the Gorilla Tape photo I love - not because of my fat ass, but because it just goes to show you that You Too Can Ghetto.

Edited to say that the gal I bought the jacket from threw in the matching earrings and bling number magnets.

Monstr, a friend in Dubai saw the shirt and said it was certainly not something for the supermarket. I swear it was like I was wearing a Halloween costume.

All I can say is “You Go Girl!!”

Nice coordination of outfits (yours and his)–love the black and white! Western in an understated dressagey way. Very tasty horse, as GM would say…

Both of you look utterly fab! Lovin’ the look-- black on blondes is classic, and Oliver is always handsome.

Speaking of him, what did he think of the whole thing?

Loved the photos and the ghetto duct tape. At least you bought black, instead of something wild like the tie-dye looking stuff I saw at Office Despot. Oliver’s dapples look fabulous.

What fabulous, fun, class acts you and Oliver are!

You guys look great and your E-bay special showmanship jacket looks like Nudie Cohn himself designed it for you!

Next show it’s Hobby Horse!!!

They have another show next month, and I have the most gorgeous Hobby Horse shirt for it, the Vegas tunic which is solid bling! I wore the black one because it was still cool enough for a heavy jacket. The Hobby Horse one is just so fun, I love it. The do the nicest clothes, and I God love them for including the Rubenesque rider.

Oliver was not at all amused to be dragged away from the last of his breakfast for the English class. Very WTF, but he has that Hols 'tude.

Peggy, he’s never had dapples like this. Omega Horseshine brought a big bag for each boarder, and not everyone picked theirs up. So he’s had that since September, and of course is getting Glanzen 3 instead now to crank out that new hoof growth.

I love the el cheapo hat. I didn’t realize until I saw the photos that it had little air holes on each side. But I draw the line at getting a $$$ hat for three seconds of showmanship.

You both look great!

If I may…teach him to step off with the same foot you do when stepping forward…so that your walking is coordinated/synchronized…fairly easy to do and makes a pretty picture for the judges. He’s such an eye-catcher that it will really impress them!

Oh gosh, I would never have thought of that! Thank you, I don’t know a thing about it and it is really fun to do. I am still working on getting him to properly turn away from me. It is something to add to the FML handwalking we’re doing until at least November (he is totally pissed off about it).

You two look so cute!

Black is beautiful!

Why, Miss Coreene;
Both you & the Big O look positively Yee & Ha!

Perhaps you need to consider giving him a WP Showname?
Ollie Bar Pep Chic…or something along those lines?

P.S.
O’s dapples are blindingly gee-or-juss.
I am getting a similar effect on the Big Buckskin with BOSS - he has polkadots

P.P.S.
hope the seedy toe resolves ASAP!
BTDT with Vernon. Not to the extent of cutting away any foot & it still stunk waiting for healing

Not enough coffee this morning…when I looked at the first photo I thought “Why the hell is Coreene wearing Orange Shoes?”

Not orange, but very scruffy brown Ariats. Alas, I forgot. To bring black ones with me and wound up in the beat up ol’ everyday boots. And the stud chain will go under the chin, that was my mistake lol.

As for the seedy toe, I think the early November shoeing will see all three nails back in hoof wall on the side that now ends about 1/4-1/2" above the clip.

Wow!!! What a nice boy!!!

My mom has a mare that has seedy toe. It very possibly could be the most annoying of all hoof issues in my opinion!

Glad you guys had a good time!!! You looked great!

Yee Haw, Coreene! I love the Western bling and you two look great!

Way to go! It IS supposed to be fun! I look forward to the next chapter!

You both look terrific!

And I love your manicure.
