Another person who doesn’t practice what they preach.
Shame about Mopsie.
Steffen is such an asset to this sport. He keeps his lesson fees affordable in order to share his knowledge with the greater dressage community.
LA 2028!
There’s something else to consider with Steffen’s ride: the weather. I may be flamed for this, but it should be considered in the discussion about Mopsie’s overall health today. It was very hot and humid at their 3pm ride time, with the heat index at 88F-89F. Yes, it was the same weather for other horses also working at the hottest part of the day, but not all horses handle heat and humidity the same way. Mopsie’s 18h height, and his heavy weight, cause him to have to work much harder to cool off.
Lucinda (commentator) remarked about the heat, and said that Mopsie was from the West Coast, and he should be used to it. But San Diego doesn’t have that kind of heat/humidity along the coast, where Steffen’s barn is located. The nearby ocean is a natural air conditioner with cool breezes and relatively mild summers.
I’m not saying this was the cause of the issues in the ride today, only that the horse had been working in the oppressive heat/humidity, and it may have had some kind of affect on him. Christine Traurig’s comment that Mopsie visited the vets and was “starting to feel more himself” was telling. Whatever they had done for him, it was beginning to help him. I hope he stays healthy and comfortable, and has a safe trip home.
I can’t stand her. She’s been aggravating me for years now, I was disappointed to see how popular she’s become.
Just catching up… DJ did a Celine Dion medley for Camille Carier Bergeron - Quebecois Canadian
I immediately liked Breakdance when he came in the ring. Looked up his breeding when they said jumper - he’s Polish warmblood which means Selle Francais (Cor de la Bryere) on top, with Trakener, Arab, and damsire is Holsteiner.
He looked fun - like he might like to event?
Ouch.
Let’s hope they didn’t pump him full of the concoction that killed the SJ horse at the World Cup
Some broad with opinions beyond her station
same, huge hypocrite in her training methods and what she preaches.
I like Adrienne, and maybe I’m the only one, but I find those pictures disturbing.
This “Team Leaders Guide” is quite interesting;
I do think, as @Mardi1, commented, that the heat/humidity might have gotten to Mopsie. True, they all went in the same heat/humidity, but we all know that different horses react differently. My relatively young horse (see avatar) puffed and panted in hot weather. I now ride an aged ex-schoolie who would not blow out a candle after a ride.
And Mopsie is not young and over 18 hands. I hope all he needed was some IV fluids.
Adrienne did not create this horse from scratch and has done an incredible job in the short time she’s had him to make his head and neck two separate parts of the body that are not glued together. If you’d seen him at the beginning of their partnership, you’d appreciate how much more open he’s becoming. These are moments in time, and he improved throughout the test. Dressage is a process and everyone is on their own path.
This is the Olympics, not a stepping stone on a path.
And not every ride is going to be perfect. Adrienne earned the score she received for better or for worse. Taking screenshots of moments in time do not reflect the full test.
You are obviously more tolerant of that kind of riding than I am. If it were one picture, I’d say OK, a bad moment. However, there are too many for me to say that. Again, this is the Olympics, not a training ride on a horse she’s bringing along.
I do agree, I think the horse is way too tight in the neck. But I’d want to hear from her why before judging. Is that how he always goes? Was there just a ton of tension because of the atmosphere and she had to ride that way to keep it together through the test? I didn’t see the scores but since she’s not in the running for the individual, I don’t think they rewarded that.
