Olympic Dressage

for some reason, this will not open. I have a month long subscription, and it shows I am signed in but it won’t let me in unless I pay for a new subscription!

He posted a video on his page that was very open and transparent, humble. And you can see how much he loves that horse. It was magnanimous of Carl to reach out to him.

He’s being so incredibly hard on himself. He has had an illustrious career and what happened in Paris was just ya know…horses.

My first thought was can he talk to Simone Biles therapist?
It sounds like her therapists is a real gem.

Agreed. I totally understand being disappointed, but if you just listen to it you’d assume the horse jumped out of the ring or he accidentally went in with his bell boots on. He rode a gorgeous test on a very hot powder keg, and was sitting on 70% before the final centerline. If we were all judged by our worst day rather than the body of our work - and in his case, it’s substantial- we’d be a sad bunch.

I saw that on FB. He sounds so down, but clearly the conditions were against him and his horse. Unfortunately, it’s the Olympics, and with no drop score he felt he had to compete.

Remaining coverage (not including Peacock):

The jumping final is running tonight on USA network at 8 pm central. They usually show a ton more jumping rounds than NBC or even the E! showing in the morning.

And Dressage finals are Saturday and Sunday on E! at 2:00 central and 2:45 central.

Jumping individual is Monday 3:00 pm central on E!

Finals at 6 am central E! Tuesday, and reruns at 9:15 am central on NBC

This might have been answered already, but why so many days between team qualifiers and finals?

One reason is that the dressage people are using Versailles tomorrow and sunday, then the jumping comes back monday and tuesday. I think it’s a logistics thing. Also, they get to sell admissions for separate days, so more $$$ for the organizers.

I do not know Julio directly but my trainer knows him as do many others in the South. A friend moved to Tryon area several years ago and he is her coach. He by all accounts has a very nice reputation, caring and considerate, as the article describes. I’m sure many US people were rooting for him too!

Oops! I swore that’s what I saw on TV but I trust you!

It was Legolas. He even did a demo ride for a big crowd of us here in SoCal, and taped the sounds of the cheering and clapping so he could try and get Legolas to be less reactive to it.

Team final time! Currently Belgium’s Intermezzo is 1st with a 72%. About halfway through the first set of riders.

My wife and I were discussing the schedule and from a labor standpoint, it seems that it would have been better to do dressage first, then eventing then jumping. It would have kept them from having to keep taking down and putting back all of the fancy decorations in the ring.

Purely from a welfare perspective, giving the showjumpers a break between team and individual addresses the complaints about horses being so tired by the end, because horses are less likely to be dropped due to the new scoring. Same with dressage.

Eventing is a 3-day test so no interruptions.

I could watch Jagerbomb all day. Him and Becky Moody are such a good partnership.

This poor Swedish horse just doesn’t want to play.

ETA: Poor horse being Dante Weltino. Broke during tempis and then lost the passage a little bit down the final centerline.

What was the score in the end? I’m having Internet nightmares here…

69.65 - lovely enough other work to make up for the 2s and 3s.
