Mais si! Ils sont Francais!
Anyone else think that Jessica had the Paris Olympics in mind when she designed (or had designed) her freestyle music?
Bit like CDJ with her London-themed one in 2012.
And bested him.
It’s Oedipal!
Nek minit… Udysee has herself a little Bomber baby
Did anyone notice Daniel Anderson’s horse almost crossed its hind feet during the piaffe and passage? So many horses go wide. He seemed like he might hit himself.
They did describe eventing as using a ‘2-gate’ process several times on the broadcast …
Finally watching this and wow Maxima Bella is a nice horse, so well developed for an 8yo mare! Millennium throws that good temperament but she is exceptional. I am going to show that test to my 11yo mare tomorrow.
I was surprised at their overall score, compared to some others- (I know she got an 80%) -she was correct and had few errors and her canter was amazing.
A sign of good breeding!! Improving on the parents. (Which is hard to do once you reach upper level!)
From the COTH article:
The pair’s music selection included “Je Ne Regrette Rien” by Edith Piaf, a song von Bredow-Werndl recounted listening to while walking on the beach in Spain with her husband, while she was six weeks pregnant.
“I got goosebumps on my whole body, and I told him, ‘This is the music. This is what I wanted to do,’ ” she said. “And I used the whole pregnancy to create new freestyle, and just before I was too big to do extended trot, I filmed the choreography.”

I can’t remember what gates the eventers used to exist the stadium. But while watching the freestyle, I noticed that all pairs were using the left hand gate to go in and out. (Left as in if you were standing in the ring facing C.)
Once they got through the gate, the area was split into two channels by a structure of some sort. Those entering the ring came through one channel, those exiting the ring went through another channel that led to the steward check.
I watched most of the freestyles, and I have to say that I am happy to see more vocals, and I found it interesting that some had a story or a message. Carl’s was one, and also Isabel’s, in addition to Jessica. Fun way to spend my afternoon while in middle of tropical storm!
One thing I really didn’t care for was the trend of a jukebox freestyle, where there were excerpts from dozens of songs. I like a theme, and songs returning to match each gait, like Becky and Carl. The rapid cutting from song to unrelated by era or artist song really detracted from the horse and rider.
Also not a fan of the drone photography.
Agree - I was thinking about that but couldn’t figure out how to describe. You managed that! Edited to add, Isabel’s were a bit choppy, but the songs seem to tie together somehow in a way that made me like it. And I’ve long been a fan of “Mandy”, even with the little change to “Wendy”
It made my spouse so mad. We were dancers and both DJ’ed in college (mumble years ago) and the lack of blending between clips was jarring. Lucinda defended it as increasing difficulty because you have no room for error, but I didn’t see any trends of that actually impacting scores so what’s the point? And if they did have a half dozen songs because they wanted to differentiate between, say, a trot halfpass and other trot work then it’d be maybe 10-20 seconds, not a lot of time to establish a musical motif, especially with all the mandatory elements they had to cram in. Whoever had the muppets theme for I think canter work really puzzled me, I wasn’t sure what the theme was there and it took me out of the whole performance.
More dressage press from NYT from last week. It’s a fluff piece for sure. It doesn’t really dig in to any nuances or explain to a potential spectator what to look for. The tone is more bewilderment than analytical. He interviewed Becky Moody and watched a training session. Demerits for referring to Jagerbomb as “it”.
Here’s a gift link if anyone is interested. The dressage portion starts at the 13 minute mark.
Fall in Love With Horse Dancing
excuse my ignorance, but I can’t seem to get to the actual Dressage portion of the article. It mentions it as a part of three obscure events, but I don’t see the link? Thanks for it but…
It’s a 27 minute podcast with no associated article. I used the link. When I paste it into a browser (vs the app) it seems to work but I have a subscription.
Sorry it didn’t work for you.
That was the rider from Poland, I believe.
It kind of reminded me of swearing in another language. You don’t have the cultural awareness of what it means, and are clueless to how offensive it is.
Or like mixing 80’s and ‘90’s.
Is the development from doing GP work ? I hope she’s still competing when she’s in her mid teens.
It’s an Olympic poster
