And Chris Burton breaks into the 30’s with a 37.60. From the scores, if his walk work improved, he’d be close to unbeatable.
Chris Burton’s horse is TO DIE FOR!!!

Swooooon!

And do they show any replays? :sigh: I was only able to catch the rides televised by NBC on the USA network from 3-4; was unable to log onto the live streaming earlier…

Such a huge disappointment for Clark, and correspondingly the US team, I’m sure he feels terrible but hopefully they can regroup and produce a solid XC round. It was bizarre to see them make that many mistakes. The link below has comments from Clark, basically he says Glen sucked back behind his leg and wanted to walk and just never came back to him, and that he can’t remember the last time Glen scored in the 40’s. Talk about terrible timing for a bad day!

Maybe all those airline flights had something to do with it.

Well, Montgomery certainly put the blame solidly on the horse: “He stayed in that frame of mind” “he was a little disappointing” “I don’t really know what happened” – um, okay.

So interesting. I saw Clarks round & thought he was overriding. Guess he was. His face, ugh, I think we’ve all been there. Can’t help but feel for the guy. I hope he doesn’t get to him too much. The score isn’t that awful - wouldn’t be surprised to see it remain the best US score, and there are two phases remaining. I am hoping all the travel and weather hasn’t worn him down too much. It’s a bit concerning when a rider who has had under 30’dressage scores for the last 3/4 years on a horse says the horse was behind the leg and wanting to walk. Why this horse had to take that route is…

A truly good horseman would never blame the horse–IMO.

Have they posted the XC course optimum time yet? Or a map?

I can see how Clark would be in a state of shock - more or less - at feeling what he apparently felt in Glen during their dressage test. However, his comments as quoted sure made it sound like he was throwing Glen under the bus. Maybe if we could hear rather than read them, we would get a different sense? Just trying to give the benefit of the doubt - and hoping like heck something isn’t off with the horse.

Veronica and Mighty Nice both got sub-45 dressage scores at Kentucky this year…let’s hope!

Viney, I haven’t seen an xc map yet and would love to get my eyes on one!

Have to say it - absolutely thrilled for WFP, but was shocked he see a top hat rather than helmet. (Ducking for cover.)

I thought it was a lovely test too. Blue seemed quite relaxed, and Jess looked so pleased.
Turns out it was a personal best score for Blue, and a best score for Jess at the Olympics.

Very proud (and not a little verklempt).
Huge congrats to you! What a tremendous complement to your breeding program to have a horse at the Olympics.

I know you suffered a tremendous loss when A Fine Romance died this year, but what a wonderful legacy he left in his progeny.

I was appalled to see him in a top hat. While I realize he always has ridden dressage in this, I just was so disappointed not seeing him in a helmet. He just had a horrible fall less than a year ago involving brain trauma…wear a damn helmet for safety, not fashion. Grrrr. That aside, he did have a beautiful test.

WFP quote from current COTH article about Dressage Day 1 -

<quote>
When asked if he thought twice about wearing his usual top hat instead of a helmet, he said he likes the tradition of it.

“No, I’ve always worn a top hat in the dressage. I’ve been eventing for 33 years, and that is important to me,” he said. “It’s part of the dress. Of course I will wear a crash hat when they force us to, which sadly they will one day.”

The first two Dutch riders did not score so well in the dressage. Two more riders to go today, keeping my fingers crossed for some better results. The Netherland are not a really big eventing nation.

Two Aussies in the top ten!

I believe I speak not only for myself but for many others when I say that my heart is with A Little Romance, her sire and his people, and her connections, over every fence.

A beautiful “little” horse, with a magnificent heart.

Gail, I’m definitely “verklempt” as well. But what a stunning legacy he has left. I know that it is too soon, that the significance of his legacy cannot console you now when your grief is so raw. Time will heal.

You are in Canada and I am in the U.S. and we are good neighbours.

Go USA! Go Canada!

One of the Dutch riders is riding her Thoroughbred Peter Parker: http://www.ruitersinoranje.nl/team/alice-naber-lozeman

That’s great Elles!

I think that your efforts on behalf of the TB breed in your country will not be in vain.

Sometimes it is the horse though. “Its never the horse” is a nice slogun but not exactly representative of real life. I don’t think anything he said was wrong to say. Based on what he said he was feeling, either Glen picked a terrible day to wake up on the wrong side of the bed or there could be something actually wrong. Right after his dressage test is not the time to get into option 2 in detail with the press. I’m sure they’ll go over him with a fine toothed comb. Clark has to be absolutely sick with worry and hoping that Glen’s disobedience was an aberration because he’s fit or unhappy about something random but will get over it. . Assuming he checks out fine, Clark has to put this behind him and focus on the next 2 phases. If he can finish on that score, it would still be a very good performance.

Boo I can’t watch the live stream anymore. What a bummer. NBC sucks. Verizon only signed up for its Vios users :frowning:

H & H live commentary is better than nothing.

WFP says this is the biggest Olympic courses he’s ever seen, and he’s been to a bunch. Maybe this time it really is a big course and the nations who bet on its being a soft course will get bit in the butt.
