Has anyone else noticed that the athlete photographs on the FEI site all look like police booking photographs? I don’t think I’ve ever seen so many unflattering pictures of people, especially the women.

Lowest amongst whom?

Since no one else seems to have brought it up, can we take a minute to discuss Zimbabwae’s coat? I loved the piping and the green tails. Definitely my favorite of both days.
Me too.

I thought the German coats were the best. The piping was just right.

I know this is from yesterday but YES! Loved that horse - so I looked up his bloodlines. Very dressagey bloodlines (Sandro Hit x Bolero, LOVE Bolero  ). I found that very interesting and am looking forward to seeing him jump.
Sandro Hit is Jumper bloodlines! Sandro, Gotthard, Ramiro Z! Welt As - great dressage sire but Furioso back there. SH himself was quite elastic and his offspring are very elastic, but they also can be “flighty” and difficult to collect. IMO, when bred to a “nick”, watch out! Those youngsters are fabulous. I also really like Bolero, too!! And now, I must go watch this Santano II…

Just did! He is soooooooooooo Sandro Hit! I mean, really.

Love the piping and green tails! The green matches the colors of the Rio Olympics (at least the colors around the dressage arena). I think this is perfect for a dressage test in Rio!

I’m enjoying all the posts and commentary here since I have only been able to watch the rides that they showed on TV - and a FEW streamed rides; the feed keeps sticking and buffering for me :frowning:

Argh!

Just doublechecking, they are supposed to be showing the cross-country live on TV from 9 to 2 tomorrow?

Yes! What is up with that??

The Zimbabwe rider’s coat was gorgeous, along with the browband her horse wore for the jog.

All the XC riders. He’ll probably have either no or very few time penalties, and he’s very unlikely to have a refusal or run out or fall. I’d bet the odds of him falling are greater than the odds of him having 20 pps. But then he might get 11 for a broken frangible because that could happen to anyone. Those can’t be appealed now, can they?

He really is as good a XC rider as there is in the world.

So, are we all thinking this is going to be live on USA network from 9-2 tomorrow?I had not luck with the live feed.

Yes it’s supposed to be live on usa. They’ve had randy Moss and melanie Smith Taylor on the nbc coverage so I don’t know if that will.continue.

Crossing my fingers that my livestream continues to work tomorrow so I don’t have to listen to Melanie Smith Taylor.

Especially since I am taking a vacation day so I can watch without guilt (I have a broken collarbone and no life).

Yes, having her commentary on x-country would be less than ideal…

OTOH, since the damnable live feed has been SO sticky for me I’m going to stick with the TV telecast so I can at least watch the dang thing!

I think it is more realistic, not to mention kinder, if expectations for the US team are in line with their own history against the competition, the rider-horse pairs they would need to beat. Before we ever came, the chances of getting someone on the podium were long. Possible, but long. And, Clark and Lauren, and their horses, are at their first-ever Olympics.

For anyone on the US team to be in the top 3 in this company will be a very impressive result. If this were not the Olympics, I wonder if anyone would be realistically expecting that outcome. It was always in the realm of ‘possible’ but can’t see how it was ever ‘likely’. Personally I don’t judge them against such an expectation - never had it. :)
What’s the quote? Something like “there is nothing more American than boundless and completely unjustified optimism”?

I don’t think anyone’s being unkind O&O. Describing the tests as seen. Dressage you know, is a bit judgey

Is the order of go posted anywhere?

I am going to ask for all good thoughts for A Little Romance and Jess Phoenix who go first at 9am.
Her sire, my dearest A Fine Romance (aka Fred), died almost 2 months ago, and this little mare is the bright spot for us both here.

Safe trips for everyone.

Thank you, crittertwitter.

And yes, Fred, I’ll be sending good thoughts for A Little Romance and Jess Phoenix all the way! Good luck!!
