Do you mean with a chain and lead rope like Dufour’s dressage horse jogging at Tokyo? Or?

Probably used for extra control. Just a guess.

:sunglasses:

It sure does. He’s marked as reserve on the FEI site as well. https://inside.fei.org/system/files/OG%20Jumping%20Definite%20Entries%2029Jul21.pdf

Can someone clarify for me, since I’ve read it differently and ambiguously in a bunch of different places: as the reserve, does/can Mclain jump in the individual rounds or not? Particularly since they go first unlike the other disciplines?

I understand from reading the FEI rules that only three rider horse combinations for each nation can ride in the team qualifier and only three can ride in the individual rounds. If Mclain is permitted to ride in the individual qualifier then either Jessica, Laura, or Kent cannot.

Beyond that the FEI rules are as clear as mud to me. I’ll keep looking.

This is the best info on substitutions that I can find and it quotes the FEI https://horsesport.com/horse-news/understanding-alternates-substitution-olympics/

It seems as if the team can be “reshuffled” after the individual competition has concluded.

According to the entries posted Mclain is not entered in the individual or team competition as it stands at this time. https://olympics.com/tokyo-2020/olympic-games/en/results/equestrian/sport-entries.htm so I believe he can’t ride in the individual but might could in the team.

Well, Jimmy clarified on FB that Mclain is doing the nations cup. I still don’t really understand how it works now, but he would so that’s good enough for me.

Did he mention who Mclain would be replacing in the Nations Cup?
Laura, Jessica or Kent?

Kent.

Thank you. (I’m not a member of Facebook.)

That’s interesting to know.
I wish them safe and successful rounds.

The Showjumping is 5* level isn’t it? They dumbed down the Eventing cross country but not any of the other disciplines, if I understand correctly.

You called it.

Pretty interesting development, I must say.

Just in the nick of time. The Schoolhouse Rock explanation, without the catchy tune. Lol.

According to a post I saw on Facebook, McLain discussed this subject a few weeks ago in a new podcast on the Hampton Classic Clubhouse, which I have not found yet. Apparently this was the plan all along.

Clubhouse is a social media app that that can host large groups. The Hampton Classic hosts interviews and discussions in their group.

Editing to add, to be invited to the Hampton Classic group, there’s a link to follow from their Facebook page.

Thanks.

Is it possible to go back and listen to previous ones? Or is it only available live?

Fingers crossed that this will work to watch the jumpers tomorrow at 6:00 AM Eastern.
