Is the order of go a random draw at this point?
I doubt it, since it seems like the riders from each country are grouped together in the three different sections. Maybe that’s a Covid consideration? Statistically, that seems like a longshot for a random draw.
Estimated start time for Jessica Springsteen, the first American rider, is around 8:40 AM Eastern on Tuesday, 8/3.
Lovely round for the Japanese rider !
Many of the horses are spooking. More than usual it seems.
The funny part is that there have been a few stops at the jump with the sumo wrestler, but they don’t seem to even be looking at the sumo wrestler, rather the stuff on the other side of the jump.
Spooky jumps or hesitant riders?
Maybe both.
I’m sure it’s plenty of course out there for a lot of them.
Not an easy course for sure.
Hoping for our young U.S. rider to do well.
Japan has rocked it.
I’ll say!!
Japan has tried very hard over the years and have learned so well. I remember when they first began in Show Jumping. It was terrifying. Bless their hearts they had more balls than they had skill
They’ve had good instruction since then and the Japanese riders now seem to have such an elegance about them.
Hoping for our young rider to prove her mettle. She’s earned her place and I’m glad she’s been given a chance.
I think some of it has been strategically timed for the country’s time zone. (depending on how much money they have in the games). They had some athletics finals events scheduled early morning because NBC wanted then in US prime time. NOT popular with competitors who are used to qualifying in the mornings and finals in the afternoon.
These jumps are so beautifully done. I think my favorite is the pottery oxer. I was hoping for a return of the sakura combination used in eventing, though.
I hope the Chronicle or somebody posts a lot of pictures of the jumps with more detail. They look incredible, but it’s hard to get the full effect as the horses are going around the ring.
The combination with the hair accessories is pretty cool.
The olympics.com site posts a description of fences document going into the background and significance of design with pictures under the official reports section: https://olympics.com/tokyo-2020/olympic-games/resOG2020-/pdf/OG2020-/EQU/OG2020-_EQU_C03B_EQUOJUMPINDV----------QUAL000100--.pdf
You can go back and look at the eventing fence descriptions as well.
Everyone who is watching should take a minute to contact NBC Sports to let them know we appreciate the equestrian coverage from Tokyo. On Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, whatever you can think of to let them know we’re out here and we’re watching it!
Some of us (who do not have a subscription service) can’t watch. I wish they would put it on network TV.
