Olympic Team Show Jumping Concludes Wednesday, August 17

Thanks Anne. Sadly I can’t watch. I don’t have cable. :frowning: I wish NBC had an option of paying for live stream.
I get cable every year for football season (college & NFL) and then get rid of it. This year I’m back early because of the Olympics.

I missed it. Had the TV on mute and then got busy doing other things during basketball. My phone alerted me for everything BUT the show jumping, and I couldn’t find it on replay either.

Hope I can find it on my computer.

You can get it free for a week.

Completely fine. Today just served as determining the order of go for tomorrow - Teams will start on 0 again, and carrying forward 4 (as Beezie/McLain/Lucy will) for the individual is not bad at all.
I think they start from zero for the individual competition as well, except that only the top 35 scores from today go forward to the individual competition.

The top 60 are going forward as qualified. Tuesday will act as as a trimming down point going forward, all restarting at 0. This is how it was described on the live feed. Someone posted a COTH link that explains the system of the next few days, but I think the commentators on the live feed explained it pretty clearly.

I didn’t think he was breathing odd or moving rough. I think the first jump on a lot of horses looked a bit rough, but the course then generally flowed as the found their pace. Cortes had a beautiful pace and was jumping great, that brick was so unlucky. However, it’s not unlike Cortes to have a rail every once in a while, and it was the first day of the Olympics on a hard course. Honestly, I think I was most surprised that Azur had the rail at that tricky combo near the end. Can we also talk about how unlucky that rail of Lucy’s was? Darn!

However, clean slates going forward, and compared to many other countries today, we did very well for our first outing. Hoping we only go up from here! Britain, Germany, Canada, Brazil, and France looked fabulous today, as well. I wouldn’t count out a Dutch team comeback either.

That’s not how I read it… 60 qualified for the individual round today, and the individual scores will continue to accumulate on top of today’s scores through the two team rounds. The top 35 at the end of all 3 rounds will move forward to the individual, where the slate resets to 0.

From COTH synopsis:

"Day 1: The riders’ scores in this round count toward qualifying for the individual final, and the top three scores of team riders determine the team’s order of go in the first round of the team competition on Aug. 15, but those scores don’t carry over into the team competition.
Day 2: The first round of the team competition in Table A format not against the clock. Individual riders also jump, as scores from this round also count toward qualifying for the individual final.
Day 3: The second round of the team competition, again in Table A format not against the clock, is open only to the top eight teams after Round 1. Teams jump in reverse order of standing. The top 45 individuals not involved in the team jumping also jump in this round, which is the third qualifying score for the individual final.
Team medals are awarded at the end of this round, based on cumulative team scores (top three scores from each round).
Day 4 : The top 35 riders after the first three qualifying rounds come back to jump in Round 1 of the individual final, where they start on a clean slate score of zero. The top 20 after that round return for Round 2 of the individual final.
The individual medals are determined by the cumulative scores of these two rounds; any ties for medals result in jump-off. "

Watched the replay of the live feed. Emerald was my personal favorite as in want in my barn just to ogle. The Qataris are some impressive team. Even their fashion style with the burgundy coats and I think matching burgundy stripes on their Samshields was “cracken”.

But I was disappointed that I have been pronouncing some of the famous sires wrong. Although, can someone clarify, is it really Penné (pasta) lope (as in canter) vs Penelope?

Wee

yes. French style I guess.

Penelope seems to have problems with horses tripping, huh.

Thank you Wanderlust! I had figured out most of it but you laid in out in a nice concise way and filled in some gaps. Much appreciated.

Pénélop You do not pronounce the last e in French!

Just now watching it all. I really liked the 19 year old Venezuelan rider and his horse (even though they got faults, it was a very harmonious ride!)

As I said, I read that. The commentary on the livestream (NBC) made it sound different, someone else mentioned on the other thread they heard the same as me. It would make sense the points reset after the top thirty five is picked (day four, not today as many people were thinking and commenting on here), but like I said on the live stream them made it seem like teams and individual reset. I could have heard wrong. They could have spoken wrong. I’m sure COTH is right.

Who are the commentators on the live stream anyway? I love them!

Here’s a bit of a bio of one of the commentators, Stephen Hadley. He’s got quite the history with British show jumping. Bonus: Milton!

Pretty dramatic that session!

Though there were multiple Cornet Obolenski-sired horses yesterday (6) and a bunch of Baloubet-Taloubet-Galoubet’s, I would like to corner the market in Thunder van de Zuuthoeve babies. Then I would parcel them out to my favorite riders…

As I said on the other thread, I need a couple million and a Cornet O baby. They come in the correct color.

If you’re French, yes, but the French say it so much better: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iaseOtLTHko

Thanks on the clarification on Pénélope. Learn something on COTH everyday it seems :). I thought Kannan was pronounced “K” naan(as in Indian bread). Not sure why I thought that, but I think it sounds fancier that way. Plus we have a road nearby here spelled Kanan that is pronounced K?-nen. Pronouncing it as Cannon does suit the launching effect though…
