Olympic Television Coverage

From earlier thread…

I had posted on the Dressage forum as well and petitefilly was kind enough to post this:

This is from an NBC press release:

Agree with the above posters…excited to see the cross-country…the show jumping as well!
sorry to disappoint but…

the way I read the olys tv schedule was

6-8pm Gymnastics and Equestrian.
Given that Gymnastics is a wildly popular sport, I’m hoping equestrian gets at least 15-20 minutes of coverage in the two hours…

ditto the 2am-2pm USA coverage…not only equestrian but a gazillion other sports are listed in that time slot so, again, I’m keeping my expectations low…and then maybe I’ll be pleasantly surprised!

just my two cents,
virginia

Yeah, well that CC on the 11th is not 2 hours worth but is shared with a gymnastics recap and highlights and all the other programming is, likewise, not exclusive but shared with other sports. Probably lucky to get 15 mins worth out of the 2 hours, especially if the USA did well in Gymnastics.

Just that I have gotten excited in the past and been disappointed at what, if anything, actually got on the air when they schedual like this.

Yup

THe OXygen Network is airing equestrian stuff as well. From the commercials it looks like XC :)
I was just going to post that, They are airing select events.
Cant wait to see which ones.

Oh man

I JUST lost Oxygen. Damn.
I just got it with a small upgrade with my Dish network account… Infact I got all thie things I want. Even BBC and Bravo and Animal planet.
But alot of it was a free upgrade on their part.

All, those telecast times are shared with other sports, like a Gymnastics recap schedualed for the same 2 hours as the CC on the 11th. Wouldn’t count on too much coverage, especially if the US medals in Gymnastics.

Yeah I am going to have to go home and wrestle with my DVR, Im sure that the scheduling is not going to be “Equestrian” so I am going to have to figure out how to get what I want…this might mean recording all the Olympic stuff… :frowning:

Well, crap…

I do believe you are correct. The time slots are most likely split amongst several sports. While this makes sense for a twelve-hour block of time, the two-hour blocks are small enough that they could focus on one sport. Can’t believe riding has to share space with gymnastics…that usually gets mainstream coverage on the broadcast station.

Arrrrgh. I will be in Maine during the Olympics, am trying to figure out how to see any of the equestrian coverage. Thanks for the info!!!

Dumping other recorded stuff

I too am madly copying movies, so I can get rid of them and make room for this. I do actually get Oxygen, but had to look it up to see if it was on my package, it is! I still have my tapes from '92 with NO COMMERCIALS. I think it cost $120. but I got every single ride for all disciplines. Then I have 2004 and there was quite a bit, but choppy. Seem to remember we got the x-c in real time, and basically complete. I do wish they would give us an uninterrupted block. The stuff on Oxygen says nothing but equestrian, so fingers crossed.

Can you imagine the reaction of the average American to 12 hours of dressage? I get a god chuckle just thinking about it, because lets be honest with ourselves, to anyone who doesn’t know what they’re looking at, watching dressage, especially on TV, is like watching paint dry after the first ride!

And before I run for my flame suit, I am on of the few people in the world (along with all of you!) who could HAPPILY sit and watch 12 hours of dressage!

There will be live streaming of the equestrian events. The schedule is now up on the NBC Olympics site.

Yay for Bold!

Happy viewing, eh.

Sorry for the redundancy–we merged a few threads on this topic together and moved it to the Olympics forum for reference.

Thanks!

BBC Coverage

Info from Team Britain’s site below. It may be a long shot for US viewers in that there may be restrictions in place (because of NBC’s coverage) but it’s worth a try. Usually you can access the video clips summing up the days events

We have DirectTV so we have all the channels but I think I’m too late to get a DVR through them. Has anyone with satellite every gotten a DVR separate from their provider? Has anyone gotten a used one (like off of Craigslist?). I am really tempted. There is also a VCR/DVR at BJs that can be hooked up to cable/satellite feed and can record your video tapes. What should I do? (Our VCR is broken.)
