Olympics 2024

Oops, sorry for my error. I still think the Randy Moss who covers horse racing still should not have been used for the Olympic coverage.

I believe the Brits are just there when NBC is borrowing from the BBC’s feed. Randy is tasked with covering showjumping for NBC so that’s why we hear him for eventing and showjumping finals.

Edited to add: I just looked at his Wikipedia page and he’s doing play by play for… speed walking!

I wonder if all the ā€˜Karl can’t ride’ haters on the Olympic Short List 2024 thread will come back and apologize.

Our team sure looked good today!

WTF does that mean ?

NBC can definitely do two feeds - they were showing some of the eventing dressage live on the main broadcast and they used Melanie and Randy for that. I remember because people in the Olympic eventing thread were very happy about having Lucinda and John and I was confused because I was hearing horse racing guy and an American woman instead. Then the broadcast went on to cover a different sport and I realized I was watching the general coverage stream and not the eventing dressage specific stream, where they did indeed have John and Lucinda.

So NBC could do it if they wanted to! They just don’t want to…

Lol. I was not one of the haters, though I am also not a particular fan and I remember making a comment along the lines of ā€œIs he good enough to go to the Olympics? I don’t know but maybe we’ll find out this year?ā€

And yeah, not only is he good enough to go to the Olympics, he’s good enough to be an Olympic Medalist. I really do like seeing how far he’s come with Caracole since the Pan Am games.

thank you for that. I have been wondering.

He has done horseracing for probably 20 years, and he is very good at that. But he still doesn’t know a lot about eventing etc. I think his first time was Rio, and he was just awful. But I will say, and I hate to say it, NBC is obviously trying to keep costs to a minimum. Keeping cameras all over the xc course must cost a fortune, and they probably don’t put much stock in it. Although I think it is pretty popular with the general public. I am pretty sure, Randy and Melanie broadcast Rio I think from NYC. They were watching screens just like us. I think Jon and Lucinda are there as I think I heard Lucinda say something about walking the course.

I’m so thrilled for the team.

Karl Cook looked absolutely tickled pink. It’s always fun to watch the first timers’ reactions to winning a medal.

Is there a start list for the individual competition?

Did they show the medal presentation this morning? I got busy at work and had to turn it off.

Sorry, just a joke. Scott was the hero of 2012 when he bolstered a depleted British team by acquiring Hello Sanctos just before the deadline. Seems like he always comes through for the team.

I still don’t understand what all that negativity was about. The denigrating comments about his Show Jumping experience were bizarre and spiteful, as well as being just plain wrong.

Anyway, looking forward to the individual final. If it’s on the USA network I’ll be able to watch.

I love this probably more than anything. Karl has put in a ton of work and shuts up a lot of the people that say he didn’t belong.

USA is supposed to be showing it at 9 pm tonight.

Thanks MHM. I didn’t want to sign up for Peacock but can watch USA and NBC. Not sure about E!. I’ll check it out.

Got to stand at work and explain show jumping today so that was fun! watching the peacock re-watch now. Can’t wait for individuals.

I honestly can’t believe anyone would even consider Karl not being in the individual final (hopefully whomever said that was saying it sarcastically!). He performed the best of the US riders.

Outstanding result by the team. I’m going to be honest, I didn’t have high hopes, but they really delivered when it counted.

Jeez, Ilex’s scope is insane. I just watched the US riders in the team final.

Hello Sanctos was bought by Graham Kirkham, (Baron Kirkham KCVO) who is an English businessman, founder of Northern Upholstery, and chairman of [sofa] retailer DFS, and Philip Harris, (Baron Harris of Peckham) who is an English businessman and politician. They own all the horses with the ā€œHelloā€ prefix.

I don’t think taking part in a team event where all 3 members pull their weight is pulling anybody’s nuts out of the fire.

The ā€œdepletedā€ team you mentioned was Ben Maher, Nick Skelton, Scott brash and Peter Charles (Harry’s Dad).
