Olympics 2024

I was never in the “he doesn’t belong” camp, but I’ll admit I did have my doubts. Obviously he’s had some incredible successes recently, but I didn’t know if the consistency was there. Wow, he blew my mind this week! What a cool story of a real student of the sport.

A great sign for the US team that our younger generation is really strong at the top of the sport.

Sorry, did not mean to offend. In 2011 I was working for a rather longshot aspirant to the British team and we watched in astonishment as one promising horse after another was sold out of the UK for silly money until it looked like the fourth spot would go to a very green combination indeed. At that point, as I recall, a posse assembled by David Broome got together to ensure that the British team would suffer no embarrassments in front of a home crowd and put some horsepower under Scott. There was some pushback from cranky parents of debutantes. It was all very suspenseful. Could make a great Midsomer Mystery although no corpses were involved.

McLain’s interview about Karl was very complimentary. What a fun read - go team!

I remember. Lack of horse power for the British SJ Team has been an issue for years which is why 2012, the last team Gold medal, was the first in 60 years. The situation has improved in the past decade or so as there is now big money in showjumping to pay for expensive horses. Also, attitudes have changed and women have a say - at last!

I’m disappointed that the Irish team, a nation that supplies so many good horses to the rest of the world, didn’t do as well as I hoped.

Show Jumping Team Final reruns tonight on USA network at 8 pm central time. Except for the commentators yakking constantly, the coverage is very complete.

You’re not the only one. She talks and talks and says nothing useful or informative. I just wish someone who knew what they were talking about would replace Lucinda in the dressage. She is beyond terrible.

I wish there was some sort of guide to all the jumps, the designs are so gorgeous. I saw compilation in Horse and Hound for the cross country jumps.> Blockquote

Me too, obviously so much thought went into the jumps! I hope the wall makes another appearance in the individuals later - thinking it’s Hardy and Serge Gainsbourg perhaps?

World of Showjumping had them all on their IG stories.

This was my favorite:

And what a rider to provide that horseflesh too. He is simply amazing.

I saw one today on FB. I think it was aging horsewoman, someone put up photos of the jumps and they were fabulous. I watched today, and couldn’t see them well, as the camera shots were mostly away, or to the side of the jumps, and I wasn’t impressed-until saw the photos. They were beautiful. I do not know who posted them, but if you can look there, they are just beautiful.

Remaining coverage is:
The jumping final is running tonight on USA network at 8 pm central. They usually show a ton more jumping rounds than NBC or even the E! showing in the morning.

And Dressage finals are Saturday and Sunday on E! at 2:00 central and 2:45 central.

Jumping individual is Monday 3:00 pm central on E!

Of course this doesn’t include the Peacock coverage.

Finals at 6 am central E! Tuesday, and reruns at 9:15 am central on NBC

With a whiff of Rob Hoekstra :joy:.

After their Florida season, I thought for sure they were ringers for a medal - gold most likely. They were destroying the competition. It just didn’t work out for them this week and I’m gutted for them.

Okay, I may not be a fan of Melanie as an announcer, but she was great being interviewed. She basically said it is one thing for a human competitor to need a bandaid - human competitors can speak up for themselves and say enough, but riders are responsible for saying that for their horses.

Melanie is not my favorite commentator, but that was a good interview.

she was a great rider in the 80s. She won a lot. She was a show jumper.
