Olympics 2024

I believe it was one of the French horses but I can’t remember which.

He does ride well. He had a bad round, which happens.

The UAE team, on the other hand, seemed to be lacking some basics that you wouldn’t expect to be missing at the level. Their horses were genuine and didn’t stop.

They’ll get better, it just takes time. I just loved the photos of the horses doing their thing and being so game.

I really liked seeing the overhead views that they had on a lot of course for the team final. Like the roll back between the two liverpools - I could see that the almost all the anchor riders were taking the same track. Epaillard went wider though and while it didn’t affect him there, maybe it affected him later if he needed to make up time and that’s why he had a rail?

Also the line with the triple combination and the vineyard fence (I think?). The overhead shots let me see that a lot of the horses were kinda wiggly in there, which surprised me a bit. But there’s a lot to go back and look at in the team final.

I believe William Funnell of the renowned Billy Stud in Great Britain has been helping the Emirati riders this year, although he had to briefly un-retire from competing to win the Hickstead Derby for a record fifth time in June.

I can’t remember who the first non-Japanese coach was for Japan, it was so long ago, but I remember being very relieved to hear that they found a good one. I think it was a British rider/coach?

Countries without a history of show jumping obviously have a learning curve to deal with. I think it’s better now than it used to be, better and safer horses, and good training.

How many go through the final?

The top 30 athletes (including all tied for 30th place) qualify to the Final

Are there photos of the jumps anywhere? That slanted wall almost looks like an optical illusion on the feed, and I’m curious what it looks like closer up.

I didn’t read it correctly until your comment, idk about the horses

I was just coming here to comment about that. It looks like they are jumping it backwards.

This is bad but I’d like to see a fault there just to see how it would come down. It looks so weird.

Even though the first Japanese rider didnt have a great round and retired on course, I thought there was something very “American” about his style of riding, but I would have to go back and rewind to look put my finger on it better. I would like to see him ride more in the future.
