OMG the horrible

campy for sure…
But they should have allowed Moondance the win, not the tie to beat snobby Fiona.
Watched it after reading this thread but skipped through a major bit of it I couldn’t stomach all the cheesy-ness…
Anyone else pick up the way they were putting polos on? XD That was the best!
Otherwise, found it funny how a pinto was pigeon holed because of all the fancy coloured warmbloods & thoroughbreds that are so desired now and you pay good bucks just for colour these days

They had to tie. No way Checkers would have won a hack off.

Worst.horse.movie.ever. My daughter and I still laugh about getting suckered into watching it. ;/
My work here is done.

As far as horse movies for kids go it really wasn’t that bad. Moondance always wore her helmet, there wasn’t that much “majikal natural bond” crap, even the colic scene wasn’t that bad. It’s definitely for younger kids, but it isn’t like Flicka (with Tim McGraw) or the Black Stallion, there are no crazy dangerous stunts. No cursing, no sex, etc. The show scenes were pretty well done too, actually. The first horse show movie I’ve seen since the Horse in the Grey Flannel Suit where they didn’t totally screw up the scene where they are in the ring.

Not that bad of a movie.

OK, based on your comments, I can see how it would be a good movie for kids. Viewing it through an experienced horse person’s eyes is different.

I’ll have to suggest it for my six year old pony crazy grand niece. She’ll love the horses and it’s definitely safe for her to watch.

I always wonder why horses have to be so talkative in movies!

And dear God in Heaven. Did you notice the braids on the majikal pinto? If Don Johnson’s character was a grand prix rider, wouldn’t he know something about turnout? Yes, it’s hard to braid a mane that hangs halfway down the neck, but someone on the set knew how to braid based on the other horses.
Can’t forget that the braids go from being braided then folded back on themselves once (like the beginning of a button braid-first step) outside of the ring, to maybe scalloped, and to hunter braids in the ring.

I always wonder why horses have to be so talkative in movies!
Beats me. But when they were filming a movie at my barn, the director’s instructions were to show the horses treats so they’d all be talkative. During the scene that starts at about 2:20 (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PFl5Azny0zs), the trainer was feeding them treats to get them to stick their heads out of the stall and then the guy with the overhead fuzzy thing came down the aisle and they all panicked and ran backwards. Fun times. I am actually in that scene, way in the back, with green breeches. My bucket and figure-8 noseband feature prominently in the next scene. And those striped poles? Construction paper.

But don’t blame me for the hour plus of your life that you’ll never see again if you somehow find and decide to watch the whole movie.

Hey, those stripes look awesome! May have to try that on my poles.

Somehow I have not seen this one, so I know what I’ll be doing next time I have a spare 90 minutes…

In my humble opinion the absolute nadir of horse movies was “Young Black Stallion,” followed closely by the Tim McGraw “Flicka.” YBS was just atrocious - acting, plot, scenery, etc. I guess the horse was pretty but we were so busy cringing and/or howling with laughter at the rest of it I don’t remember. Flicka, well, they lost me with the girl’s "untamed hair, just like the “Mustang’s!” GIVE ME A BREAK. Even my husband was like, “Give the girl a damn hairbrush and let this foolishness be over.” Gruesome!

Is it just me, or did all the horses jumping in the classic look short strided and awkward?

Also love how the commentator who was describing what the judges were looking for included “custom boots” in the description

Oh come on Lightening the White Stallion is so bad, that you have to watch it. http://www.amazon.com/Lightning-White-Stallion-Mickey-Rooney/dp/B0001AW12Y
