Opinions on DHH crosses for jumping?

Ahh, thank you. I was under the impression she was talking about only one pregnancy, not that there was another embryo in a different mare.

Two of the same cross have been created and implanted. Because the world needs MORE of some random mare with no particularly special attributes crossed with Royce. Forā€¦ reasonsā€¦

I think what is weird is that the first foal itself doesnā€™t have a price? I do think sheā€™s talking about 2 foals hereā€¦one in a recipient mare. But you can buy the broodmare for 7500 after foaling but you can only buy her foal she is carrying if you buy both? And the relative value of that foal is higher than the same cross in a recip?

Yeah I think the embryo in the broodmare either comes with her as a package deal or else it canā€™t be bought in this sale. Thatā€™s how I read it. Possibility to help incentivize the sale of the dam.

She is bonkers. I mean what happened to ā€œeveryone stop messaging about buying horsesā€, ā€œThere will be an auction though next monthā€.

the strangest part of this whole thing to me- with ALL of the money being spent on semen, ICSI/ ET, etc etc etc why on earth would she not buy one or two WELL BRED (even if injured/ retired/ not shown) mares and use them?? At least then the price tags would not be so out of the realm of possibility.

ETA I just looked quick through AK last few auctions and he has Tamerino mares and Up to Date Miltoo mares for less than 5k, and if you go back a bit (when she was acquiring all these DHH mares) he sold a Air Jordan x Chellano Z broody for 7500. Last year sold a Winningmood x Good times for 11,000. Even assuming these are all just average or below jumpers, people would be 10x (100x?) more likely to pay for that Royce, For Pleasure, etc foal with that on the dam side.

Funny you mention AK. Several people thought he would be a good choice to help Kate with her auction. :smiling_imp:

People routinely GIVE these sorts of mares away for breeding on free leases. It would NOT have been a huge ordeal to find a couple really nice mares to use-- especially if they donā€™t have to CARRY the foal and you are planning to use recipient mares anyway?!

I find it a little odd to be selling existing animals (mares and foals) without current photos and video. Itā€™s one thing to sell an embryo or in utero on name alone but wouldnā€™t anyone buying a living horse want to know what it currently looks and moves like?

Itā€™s telling.

This .

The whole thing is mind boggling.

I meanā€¦ KS clearly thinks the stallion names alone make the babies worth $$$$$$. Hard to tell if sheā€™s expecting people to come out of the woodwork clamoring to buy them, or if sheā€™s just slapping numbers around to feel special about her ā€œproductā€.

Iā€™m sure she received some messages from people willing to take horses off her hands (aka rescue them from her neglect); she took that as ā€œpeople messaging me just DYING to buy my fancy horsesā€. I wouldnā€™t be surprised if she found out the auction sites donā€™t do the work for free and is now trying to sell horses on her own :woman_shrugging:t3:

Since auction companies usually work on a commission basis maybe the auction appraisers knew the horses wouldnā€™t bring what SHE estimated their worth to be.

Possible, or maybe, she was once again full of crap.

Very good point. Though Iā€™d imagine there would be a gratuitous blast of the auction company (or maybe we just havenā€™t seen that part yet).

How many of these trainwreck threads (specifically the ones withā€¦ antagonistic posters as the subject or OP) have NOT ended in animal abuse or mental distress? Not many, or any that I can recall at the moment.

The only one I can think of is Lauren Kanarek because her horses were in full board.

This might be a ridiculously dumb question, so please forgive me. Is there anything a stallion owner can do to weed out people maybe backyard breeding their nice stallion with a random mare? Or in breeding is it just that whoever wants to pay the money will be able to breed? I would think that if you were looking at bloodlines you might not want a bunch of strange backyard babies on that list, but does it matter to a breeder?

If you do live cover or fresh semen, you can verify the mares. If youā€™ve sold so much frozen semen that ten year old straws are being bought and sold by back yard breeders, thereā€™s nothing. Also the European frozen semen ends up in the US where itā€™s going to be impossible to track.

These stallions are such big names that a few fugly backyard colts in rural America wonā€™t tarnish their reputation based in Germany or Holland

Basically if you want to max out your profit selling as much frozen semen as possible via brokers then you lose some control over the end use. Itā€™s a tradeoff. And the German breeders may not care that much about what happens overseas.

Apparently some stallion owners now want to create tighter contracts that give them more control. But hard to enforce in the USA from Germany.

The filly named Time for Pleasure (3/2023) by For Pleasure out of her Hakuna Matata KG mare is listed for $40k in a FB post from today.

Does anyone know if that mare has any sport record at all?

I just canā€™t fathom spending the money, time and headache for all these ICSI pregnancies on anything less than proven blue hen mares or for pre-paid custom foals.

Clearly the market feels the same way as she is ending up not selling many of these foals or yearlings
