See… that right there is why I would never buy a foal. I haven’t seen enough to be able to reliably predict what they’ll mature into. I’m better off evaluating adult conformation.
He is a gelding now - @sixpoundfarm has one in utero out of a drool worthy mare with a 1.40 record and later on a long career with amateurs, if you’re interested, and I can vouch that my foal from her was fed consistently and she represented everything completely honestly. I would have already bought it if funding was unlimited.
Edit he’s also ridiculously good looking at 2.5 and is a baby stallion anyone can handle. I get comments everywhere he goes about what a great temperament he has.
To my knowledge they do not. It was her claim that she bought two first class seats and then showed that picture of what I cannot imagine is first class for any carrier in any market. It was just the bragging about shelling out for first class yet showing…whatever that was! Looked like standard, small craft/domestic flight bulkhead.
Out of how many bred? 15? 20? In school we’d call that a failing grade.
Even if one of these crosses created Rox Dene v 2.0 I would suggest that stroke of luck or magic nick justified repeating THAT cross perhaps but not continuing a program that consistently produced foals that the registry deemed below average standard.
She did not. She had a meltdown about not getting a private inspection, and then blustered about potential (made up) biosecurity issues about taking her mares and foals to the FL Horse Park.
I think most of those babies are actually quite cute, would clean up great with some food and grooming and have the potential to be very nice and useful horses in a lot of different disciplines at some level. I don’t think they are junky at all and IMO have more market value than the average horse out there.
Though I don’t think their condition is bad enough to warrant charges from my local authorities, I think she must be mentally ill to keep them this poor especially if she’s putting up pics on FB, sale ads, etc and think they look good. I hope she gets some help and the horses get the heck outta there
“Cute” doesn’t get it for a 4 or 5 figures asking price for malnourished foals and yearlings or the same crosses in utero from starving DHH mares bred to jumper stallions. Malnutrition in utero, which is obvious here, as well as poor nutrition as weanlings, yearlings, and the 2 yr old, makes these “cute” animals a nonstarter for most people.
It probably depends on what market you are thinking of.
I don’t think they have great market value as sport horses, both because of the harness confirmation and the starvation in utero and as weanlings/yearlings and lack of routine care
But if we take the market to include the sum total of all the low end auctions, it’s true that they are not 28 years old, don’t have career ending injuries, and aren’t truly feral.
What I do not get is why do all of them have such an upside down neck?
If you look at nice DHHs, including those with the very high neck design that KS is clearly breeding for, their necks are not completely upside down like all of these babies are.
I’d also genuinely like to hear the thought behind this opinion!
Who is going to turn these poorly conformed, poorly bred, neglected animals into solid citizens for low level homes? How are they more valuable than the average horse out there? Almost any OTTB or ranch horse is going to have been fed at least the minimum, been handled in some way, and had a better start in life. Even a mustang off the range is a blanker slate than these.
I do feel terrible for the animals themselves, especially since they’re being bred for a niche that doesn’t exist, and if KS is true to form she would rather them die than let them go for less than $$$$$. Which precludes them from somehow finding their way into homes that could give them all the time and training needed to MAYBE make useable and reliable horses.
