I know a lot of people talk about the Dunning-Kruger effect (a beginner overestimating their ability), but there should be a word for the opposite–beginners assuming people who are more competent than they are at present are “experts” whose advice is valuable.

In my own bumbling around the horse world as a beginner, looking back, I fell for this so many times.
