OTTB Pedigree COTH Compilation (TB bloodline list)

If I see French or Irish in the bloodlines, I take a second look. Also, Saddler’s Wells because of the variety of offspring, including Grand National winners
and placings.

If they are still racing into their teens they are tough.

I am personally convinced that dressage type movement in TBs primarlily from the Bay Ronald line. In your case, Wild and Wooly has many crosses to Hyperion, who is close in the lines of almost all of the International GP pure dressage horses of the past. This horse has some other really, really nice sport horse lines–lots of MOW/Fair Play, a line to Marcovil and another to Marco, Eclair. Zonah, Dante, lots of Blandford in the back, Fighting Fox, Double Jay, even Wrack and Campfire in the back.

Not surprising that he’s turned into a nice sport horse with good movement and jump. He’s a good example of the engine room at work.

Does anyone have much experience with Alleged? I’ve only known one other person who had one, and she often described both of them as good eggs. Mine is by Alleged out of a Roberto mare, he’s 21 now but is the most honest horse I’ve sat on. He certainly has his quirks, mentally and physically (particularly shivers), but often felt he’d had the potential to go further than Prelim if I’d found him at 5 or 6 instead of 11.

Ah, thank you! I love the way this guy moves and will keep an eye out for those lines in the future!

I have a horse who has Man in the Moon (TB) in his pedigree. Man in the Moon was out of Clear and Cold. http://www.horsetelex.nl/horses/progeny/10715
Unfortunately the KWPN dismissed him after he only covered mares for one year. They examined his foals and there were a few things they did not like. I think nowadays there are still warmblood people who find that a terrible shame.

Clifton Lush

Interesting that she has Olden Times in almost the same position in the bottom that Clifton Lush has in the top. Olden Times is an excellent line to find in sport horses.[/QUOTE]

Interesting & thanks for that comment, viney!!! I am a mega-learning nerd about most things & I have NEVER been interested in bloodlines from a breeding perspective, but aforementioned project (I didn’t really get the point of Pinterest…till I found it was full of TB photos & video, like VIDEO OF MAN O WAR!)

I’ve learned so much from your posts & others & watched a lot of horses & informally come to a similar hypothesis, but wouldn’t state it authoritatively, since I’m no expert!

Yours & Foxtrot’s posts provide some great encouragement for my hypothesis (obviously based on my research of my own horse’s family, other horse is an Appendix QH who I’ve NO info about, would love to though)!

I’ve been digging back further with a r.i.d.i.c.u.l.o.u.s. spreadsheet (hey, hyperfocus is good for something) & Encore has Buckpasser & Turn-To, & quite a few crosses to Hyperion (http://bit.ly/1FhSzs8, great quote from owner), Bay Ronald, Teddy (http://bit.ly/1FhSnt5, http://bit.ly/1FhSoND) is all over as well. Also tons of Isinglass (http://bit.ly/1FhSHYT, all these include brief story), who I just recently started learning about.

Plus his sire’s dam (opposite of damsire, LOL?) was the British mare, Creaking Board, who brings in lots of nice English & Irish turf blood, along with Gay Missile (http://bit.ly/1FrFoZ9), in the damline of Weekend Surprise (Secretariat daughter), where I admit, I peed myself a little when I clicked & found the French jumping greats, including My Babu & Ksar, along with the incredible Princequillo (http://bit.ly/1FrFqjw; what a story!) yet again.

If you want to geek out, this is him: http://www.pedigreequery.com/joyous+jester
ETA – detailed info & photos from his RRTP profile: http://www.retiredracehorsetraining.org/bb-general-link/415-away-again

He’s a helluva jumper, I don’t have aspirations beyond T, he finished 2013 at T, then, well, I found out it takes a lot of time & money to build even a mega-simple little farm while paying lots of other bills, sigh. Just sharing b/c I’m a visual learner, heh, so there are some pics & videos on there. He’s from CANTER MA, bred in MD, donated by his trainer/owners when he was done racing in DE.

(I did not know any of this when I bought him, I shopped brains, conformation, & my type – bone & durability – and knew very little about bloodlines aside from the big names I grew up reading & petting, living about 40 mins from KHP/Claiborne/Calumet/et al.)

Oooo thanks for more fun! Fascinating! Encore also has several Mahmoud crosses, as well as Tom Fool, War Relic, Djebel, Nearctic (therefore, we should obviously be doing Burghley, snork) – & fascinated to see Chop Chop, have been trying to learn more about him, he’s on our 5th line & comes from so many great names & stories. Thanks, I didn’t know about that page!!!

I have a 2009 Black Moonshine-Moxie that has the loftiest easy jump and is super brave/bold xc as well as a pretty mover: http://www.equineline.com/Free-5X-Pedigree.cfm?page_state=ORDER_AND_CONFIRM&reference_number=8555058&registry=T&horse_name=Leons Little Girl&dam_name=Moxie&foaling_year=2009&nicking_stats_indicator=Y

and a 2007 Chestnut(of course) Daylight Savings- Burmese Diplomat that has been very difficult (I attribute that to Nijinksi~) but is freakishly athletic and has been worth the challenges: http://www.equineline.com/Free-5X-Pedigree.cfm?page_state=ORDER_AND_CONFIRM&reference_number=8059165&registry=T&horse_name=Save N the Day&dam_name=Burmese Diplomat&foaling_year=2007&nicking_stats_indicator=Y

xcatheart, you’ve got a really good eye for sport horse lines in pedigrees. Your first horse’s only two close up doubles are to Nasrullah and Eight Thirty. Can’t do better than that for jumping. The rest of the pedigree is old time lines with solid sport credentials. Second horse also has many good lines, The sire’s dam line has something very special in the mare by Key To The Mint out of Missy Baba. Then he has Nodouble through a daughter, and Diplomat Way, and many other classic old lines that you rarely see today.

If you didn’t consider the pedigrees before purchase, their ancestors clearly had an influence on the final products.

Thanks Vineyridge! I did take their pedigrees into consideration but always go looking with an open mind!
With my chestnut mare (Daylight Savings-Burmese Diplomat) it was basically her pedigree that made me hang on to her, thinking that if her and I could somehow come to an agreement with her EXTREMELY OPINIONATED ways, we would make a great team. It’s been a long road, but we’re on the right path~ We’ve both learned lots from each other which has made every horse after her easy peasy! LOL

I have two OTTBs at my farm presently:

  1. Pacific Waves (Seattle Slew) - Wassup Bonnie (Fit to Fight). 16.2+ liver chestnut. Future soundness unknown after chip removal. Hunter-type mover. Long neck. Big head. Stocky. Adorable, sweet, playful puppy dog personality. Happily lets me sit on him with a halter and lead rope while he grazes.

  2. Pure Prize (Storm Cat) - Beloved by All (Rubiano). 16.1. Bay.

Pure Prize is a son of Storm Cat out of a mare by Seeking the Gold, a stallion who stood at Claiborne for years and had a notorious reputation for being difficult to handle, mean, and a vicious biter. Only the most experienced grooms handled him and visitors were not permitted near him.

My horse was purchased for over $200,000 as a 2 year old, sent to a quality training stables, had enough speed to win, yet washed out as a 3 year old and was donated - injury free - to a rehoming organization.

One of my track contacts said that his case was probably a lack of heart or bad temperament or both.

At this point - 1.5 years off the track and 6 months into serious training - we’re not sure he is going to successfully transition into a second career. He’d rather graze in his pasture with his pet sheep than interact with people or work on the ground or under saddle. And if you try to get him to do something that doesn’t suit him, he shows a nasty display of temper.

If I had seen a post like this about Pure Prize offspring before I bought my horse, I would have done a lot more research.

Note the similar “look of eagles” between these two Pure Prizes.

thinking this deserves a bump and an update… isn’t there some sort of online spreadsheet type of deal that we can use for this?

you could use a google doc

Here’s a google doc spreadsheet of at least the first post here that might be helpful.

How great is that! Thank you! How does one edit? Making an account and signing in? My concern was some dingus coming along and wiping it to troll… but it’d be awesome to have an ‘open edit’ option so all could add their anecdotes/experiences…

There should be a button at the top that allows you to edit it, but I may have not set the privacy settings on it correctly. I’m not at my computer at the moment, but I’ll look and see what I can do later this evening. I’d like to add a bit more information to the existing stallions and add a few more as well and I’m sure other people would have even more/better things to add. I threw it together very quickly so there may be mistakes.
