LOL, yup 7, now 8 vet is our all time high for a sales horse. $75-$100 is what we have him pegged at also. Couple of very minor vet issues, dents. So it is really difficult to peg him. Could bring twice that.
The consignor is an old buddy of mine that I worked (we were the guys on the end of the shank) the 2 year old sales with in the early 80s. Nick is from England and came over here with a backpack, literally. No “connections or family” in the business. Built a heck of an operation when he settled in Ocala years ago. He told me this is his last year and is turning the business over to his son and daughter in-law.
Yes we are setting a conservative reserve but well above $30 no stealing from me. Too many have out of this mare due to lack of cash flow. Sold a Broken Vow out of when he was staring out for nothing, 5 months later he brought $125 as a 2 year old. Sold the Stormy Atlantic for $15 when he was just getting traction, 6 months later he brought $180, Sold a very nice Jump Start filly for $40,000 fair money for a Jump Start (I paid $5 for the stud fee) filly was on the small side of things, 6 months later she made $160,000. At $30 I will would find the money to race him. Don’t tell my wife. This is the best horse out of the mare.
That’s the way it goes when one doesn’t have good cash flow. We got whacked by the financial melt down.
I am very familiar with the auction process. Grew up in it. My father was a “principle” with Fasig Tipton for over 30 years.
The top works were 9 & 4/5[/QUOTE]
I sure hope you get every $$$ and then some! We’ve got a gorgeous Van Nistelrooy stallion at our farm that is owned by a friend. Unfortunately, he too got caught up in the financial meltdown and was never able to send this colt to the track to see if he could do anything.
At 17+ hh, he’s probably worth more as a dressage prospect than he is as an unproven TB stallion.
