Our Boy at the OBS 2 year old in training sale
I saw him yesterday and didn’t even realize it was the same horse as this thread! He looked great! And it takes a truly exceptional horse to break their maiden at KD, let alone 1st time out. The few who have won their first start there in the past have gone on to the very top levels of the game! Many congrats!
I didn’t “realize” it either. I checked to see what they named him in June I think and add to my stable mail. Came back unnamed. Which was disappoint most new owners name their horses pretty quickly. Especially one’s they give fair money for. So it’s usually not a good sign of things to come when they haven’t been named.

So, when I scanned/read the daily entries real quick the name “Reel Creel” didn’t mean anything to me.

I was having dinner with some friends when a text came from my partner who has a small piece of the mare saying, “Reel Creel the real deal. Believe me! Breeders’ Cup Turf”. My friend KNOWS racehorses. I text back “who the fork is Reel Creel”. Cut dinner short to get home and watch the replay. Not the same as watching it live.

Just might have to take a trip to Keeneland for his next race. Having scaled back on breeding this most likely will be my Swan Song horse.

Well, here’s hoping the colt doesn’t try to kill himself or contract some weird virus between now and KL so we can all drop a few bucks on him and see what he can really do in class company.

Good luck, be watching with interest, fun to play when you know the connex, even virtually.

Crazy story!

I can literally count the recent first time starters who have won at Kentucky Downs first out on my fingers. Aeroforce is on the list, who went on to finish 2nd in the BC Juvenile Turf. Siding Spring also won his debut there, also made it to the BC, and has since become G3 placed.

That’s pretty much the entire list of debut maiden winners… it takes a lot of fitness, a lot of maturity, and a lot of ability to win there.

Congratulations! I think Real Creel will have a real big cheering section now!

Well, our boy is entered in the Bourbon Stakes G2 at Keeneland on Sunday but he didn’t draw in. First in line on AE list. Bummer!!! Glad I didn’t buy a ticket down and back for the day.

Got an invite from Juddmonte (they stand his daddy) to join them and I am sure hundreds of others in one of the ‘function rooms’ because they sponsor the Spinster Stakes on the same day. I was looking forward to enjoying lots of Keeneland’s yummy Bread Pudding and free cocktails.

Thanks for all of the support and good vibes!

Be sure and post if he gets in. Can’t you go to the party anyway?

If I still lived in Lex I would. No self respecting horseman turns down free food and booze. After a lifetime of going to the races I rarely go these days unless I have a routing interest.

And maybe count your blessings…

At the moment the power is out at Keeneland and the surrounding area including the airport. LE is doing traffic control. Keeneland is not letting any more patrons in until the issue is fixed. No ETA.

A huge opening weekend for Keeneland…

Gumtree, it looks like your horse is running with the scratch of the #9. There’s also a jockey change to Corey Lanerie. Best of luck!

I’ll be there today rooting for you.

Thanks Laurie! I just got a text from my very good friend, but a very boring partner, he never gets excited about our horses, be it as a breeder or one’s we race. All his text said was “He’s in!”. Though he is more excited about this guy than other decent ones we’ve had over the years.

It was going to be a stress/nervous free Sunday, catch up on mowing. I think I will record the race and watch after I get a text from my partner who will be there. Would rather know the ending first.

Not an easy race just hope he runs well and or gets a piece of it.

I have a couple of half sisters that I will pre-race price if interested, lol. A very nice yearling by a son of Galileo. I am a trusting hand shake deal making kind of guy.

It will be a tough race for sure. But with 14 two year olds on the turf (inside) track anything can happen and I hope your colt gets a clear trip and finds the front!

We’ll be with Darley today watching the filly we bred (Paid Up Subscriber) in the Juddmonte Spinster.

Best wishes, RC & GT!! I will be mixing a bourbon drink (trying to develop the palate) before post-time in honour of team RC.

In fact, let’s name a drink for you all, esp. considering that he is in the Bourbon Stakes. Hence, the Real Creel:

bourbon, blackberry syrup (may be in your grocery store), club soda, crushed blackberries & lemon juice

I do about 1/2" each of the bourbon, blackberry syrup, lemon juice & then the rest is club soda.

It is a fantastic drink. I like it best with lots of lemon juice. The color of the drink rather matches your lovely horse, too.

Best wishes, Laurie, for your wonderful filly!

Wow, sorry didn’t pick up on that. You know how I feel. But the Spinster is a much more important race. Hope you still own the mare and or some fillies out of her. At least you have 9 less horses to beat.

If our guy should win say hello to Jimmy B for me and you could mention the half sisters we have in case his boss should be interested. If he pays off my mortgage I will give them all 3. lol.

A really good buddy of mine and the people I send my mares to in KY are the breeders of Practical Joke. Hopefully it will be a “friends” weekend.

Good luck!! Your race I will watch live.

Looking forward to getting great updates and best of luck to both of you. I’m back into enjoying racing again after a trip to Ireland for the Longines Champions weekend and the Curragh. Talk about Galileo’s offspring! As I recall in the “big race” 3 of the 5 runners were by Galileo and the race was won handily by Churchill. Good fun watching him run.

Now if anyone is interested I have a grandaughter of Sadlers’s Wells…

Good luck LaurieB and gumtree

Well, our boy ran no good today. Last to load and wasn’t ready for the break. Never got much into the race. Hopefully he is a better horse than what he showed today. If not hope they bring him to PA so we can pick up some breeders awards.

Glad I didn’t go down it would have been a long flight home.

LaurieB’s filly ran a decent second. I’m A Chatterbox ran as expected but Paid Up gave her a run for the money for a most of the race. The other 3 were also rans.

He’s beautiful, gumtree. I was on the photog line for the race and we were all hardcore crushing on him before the race. He’ll have people fighting for him if he ever needs a second career (hopefully that’s not the case, we need him to go to stud and pass those looks on to future racehorses).

Gumtree, yeah, I watched the load :frowning: Hard sometimes when there is a large field on the last horses in (although I assume the same could be said for the first horses it). It seems often if the rest of the field is still, as soon as the last horse is in, the gates open.

It also seems that those 2 year old races can be so unpredictable if they are still learning their jobs and 14 is a huge field for any horse.

I was rooting for Paid Up Subscriber but I’m A Chatterbox was definitely the best today. Sad about Miss Pink Diva :frowning:

I’m thinking the BC Distaff is going to be a great race if all the possible show up… Songbird, Beholder, Stellar Wind, I’m A Chatterbox…

I am almost looking forward more to the Distaff over the Classic
