Our Boy at the OBS 2 year old in training sale

Just adding my congrats to everyone else’s. And thanks, gumtree, for sharing the experience.

“So it sounds like I would be able to pick you out in a crowd at the track. You’d be the tipsy female railbird practicing slurred French, munching on once freezer burned MD crab cakes, completely attired in a fashionable Costco outfit, and wearing a well worn “Luv Chrome” baseball cap.”

Thanks for making my week. I keep thinking about this & laughing.

Tipsy, alas, probably not. Unfortunately, if I have more than one of anything it stirs up the ***** neuropathies that I am always trying to suppress in my legs & feet from my back injuries. Now, these Philips crab cakes are awesome. You all must try, along with a glass of beaujolais, of course. The French interest comes back from when I used to work for French Canadian harness horsemen. I just love languages, also. I suppose sometimes I do try to practice, though, with any poor souls that I come across that do speak French. The person you depicted sounds a bit more fun than I but not that far off, either.

"I fear that it won’t be long before we see the user name “Boone’s Farm.”

Some of those types are absolutely fine, sometimes, btw.

Should any of you be up for a glass, though, there is the 90+ Cellars, Riesling, Lot 66, out there right now that is fantastic and not expensive. I gave a bottle to a friend and she called me up to tell me she loved it.

Very nice attempt at backing away from my characterization. Hope you won’t start disguising yourself by becoming a Sam’s Club shopper.

Experience tells me that fine wines are an acquired taste for those seated in the box seats. Boone’s Farm is a beverage that gets you past a day mucking stalls. So I might recognize you in the box seats looking as if you recently mucked a few stalls and wearing a fraying unwashed Smithsonian authenticated “cheap wines sometimes” duck bill cap?

“Very nice attempt at backing away from my characterization.”

No, no, no - I absolutely love the depiction you created. Thank you for the humor & lightness; I’ve needed it lately!

The “fine wines” I buy, though are $10 - $12 a bottle and, I think, would appeal to most. I think the reason I don’t buy your suggestion is that I never see it anywhere (not even Costco. ;)).

I am a dedicated and always fashionably attired blue denin fruit of the loom Walmart shopper. Have you checked out their wine section? Mrs Shammy refers to it as the burp & belch department. The ladies department is to die for. I know because Mrs Shammy says she rather die than be seen in that section of the store.

Here is another OBS article by Natalie Voss.

My boy did us proud yesterday in his first start. He is now named Reel Creel and it looks like he might be the real deal.

Nice, Gumtree!!

Coming from the home he did, I’m not surprised!! Superb & big congratulations!

Must be a nice feeling when you see one you bred look like it actually shows potential on the track

Looks like he had a great first race! I read the report and it looks like your colt was on fire that day and clearly knew his job

I saw him yesterday and didn’t even realize it was the same horse as this thread! He looked great! And it takes a truly exceptional horse to break their maiden at KD, let alone 1st time out. The few who have won their first start there in the past have gone on to the very top levels of the game! Many congrats!

Congratulations! What a terrific debut.

Didn’t realize it was the same colt. Very impressive debut, congratulations

Congrats!!!

Where is the thumbs up gizmo!!!

Wow, congratulations!

That’s fantastic Larry! Congratulations!

Yes, congratulations! So happy for you and Real Creel and his new owners.

Thanks all.

We do alright all things being equal as a small breeder with a very moderate broodmare band.

I’ve had 1 TDN “rising star” and several that the connections though enough of to nominate to the KY Derby/Triple Crown. Non to have run. But a “nod” is better than nothing.

I am always pleased when one of ours wins especially if I am still the owner. But there are “wins” and or well placed. But I have been around the sport long enough to know when a win is just a win. The chances of the horse taking it to a higher level is most likely pretty slim.

But then there are WINS. IMO this was a pretty impressive “win”. He made it look easy. One horse tried to take him on and the jock just asked him for a little bit more and he lengthened. He’s a big striding colt and IMO he looked more like he was out for a gallop than an all out go for the win. The final time was respectable for 6 1/2. Don’t know anything about the horses behind him.

I guess the connections think a lot of him. They said his next start will be in the The $250,000 Bourbon Stakes (G3) at Keeneland on 10/9. If things go according to plan and he runs real well they will take him to the Breeders’ Cup.

I suspect he will have to run REAL well because I don’t nominate my foals to the BC and they will have to supplement him.

All very exciting but I take things one day at a time. A half brother broke his maiden in his 3rd start at Gulfstream a few years back in a BIG way. Got the TDN rising star compliment. Got a HUGE Rag number and Byer. Got all kinds of press, “the Derby horse nobody’s heard of yet”.

Unfortunately from what I understand he go loose in the barn area and ran into a dumpster. Never ran back to his form.

But maybe the lord will be kinder this time. I have 3 half sisters, my bank account is pretty low and plenty of bills. Need to get back to zero.

Had a nice horse in a Stake at Saratoga my first and last. One of a very few that were good enough to run at Saratoga. He was one of the favorites too. Gary Stevens was on him who I have known for years. But don’t see him much anymore. So it was fun to get back together.

The horse breaks sharply from the gate and the next thing I see is the both of them going backwards. Gary sitting in the saddle looking like he’s trying to pull the horse up. WTF? The horse is trialing by many when Gary starts to ride him again. Makes up many and just gets beat finishing second.

Turns out Gary got his foot caught in the gate when he broke so sharp. Lost the iron and though he broke his foot. He was very apologetic knowing this was a big race for us.

Have had a few others that I have been connected with that became heart breakers.
