Owners who change horses names.....

On the same order, I once owned a spiffy little Dutch WB named Mr. Z. In Wellieworld the announcer who was an Anglophile called him Mr. Zed. Which sounds like and rhymes with Mr. Ed. Oh joy. I was SO pleased.
Given general announcing capabilities at shows here - I had to DROP the last name of my Filly

Her original and registered name was “Simone Signoret”

Not only does/did no one in the show world seem to know WHO “Simone Signoret” was

They pronounced it

“CIG NO RET”

:lol::lol::lol::lol::lol: Names not the issue :lol::lol::lol:

I changed her name (with USEF with AHS) to “Simone”

Best to go with simple :lol::lol::lol:
It is wonderful for breeders if the horses they have bred still carry their farm initials and are campaigned with them…. The reality is that people drop suffix’s and change names to suit their personal tastes. (Recent case in point Dutch Breeder Stal Flemming’s lovely Ulteim’s Flemming who debuted in NA with Ashley Holzer as Breaking Dawn)

This week I came across a sales ad for a colt our farm had bred/raised/sold that had the purchasers farm suffix tacked on to his name in the ad (they kept the name the same) as if they had bred the horse (!?) sigh.

Our stallion Sandro’s Heir had a boatload of names in Germany; Starfriese for the German Foal Championships/Elite Foal Auction, Sandro Fun for his initial competition, Sarastro for the Elite Auction and Sandro’s Heir for Licensing…. Phew! When the wife of his late breeder finally tracked him down last year she was beyond elated to finally find him. The interesting thing about his current and final name (poor guy) is that when his first 2 foals we born here in NA the breeders each in different areas of the county, chose to name his foals Sandro’s Melody and Sandro’s Stolz (pride in German)… when we bred our own mare to him we felt “pressured” to name the resulting 2011 filly Sandro’s ‘something’ because the other two people had! I am sure the irony is not lost on anyone that if we had tried to force/encourage/even suggest to anyone that they name their foals after our stallion we would have been told to shove it.

We are a pretty easy going, slightly gutter-mouthed group at Marabet Farm. We all thought, and still do, that the “other meaning” of MF was pretty funny. We don’t give a rats a*s what anyone else thinks. We have a huge MF in the brick walkway leading to the entrance of our barn. Irreverent group that we are, even we are all a bit disgusted by some of the comments made about the name Backstage MF. This horse was named, as EVERY horse we breed is named, for something meaningful the day of the birth. I was watching the Oscars when I saw on the monitor that Ornella was beginning to foal. So this colt’s barn name became Oscar. During the Oscar’s everyone wanted to be backstage with the winners. I knew from the moment this colt was born he was going to be a winner. That’s where Backstage came from. I don’t know where some of you sickos come from but I know of no other meaning to the word backstage. Frankly, I don’t want to know what disgusting meaning some of you have invented.:eek::eek::eek::eek::eek:

As I said before, two years ago I switched to just M out of respect to several other breeders who use MF and have been using it far longer than we have. MaryDell Farm, Marefield, etc. I wonder how happy they are going to be about this crap you guys are slinging?

I have already started (last year) the process of switching all my horses to just M as a suffix but it is costly to do it correctly and so it will take some time. Soon none of my horses will be Mother F***ers anymore!!!:D:D:D:D:D:D

The great thing about the COTH forums’ is the ability to share ideas and ask questions. Apparently sharing EMOTIONS, and heartbreaks is a no no. Really sad. I’m sure that if I posted that someone broke into my house and shot all my dogs one of you would find a way to blame it on me!!! Let me be really clear here. I am laughing at those of you who are so gross, not crying!!! I am not even offended. Just shaking my head and walking away.:no::lol::winkgrin:

Here’s the deal though…A promise was made and confirmed several times in different conversations. It was discussed and confirmed again when I had the Hanoverian papers put into his name. This is actually more about the deception than the actual name change. A decent person would have called and told me that he was going to change the name, not just let me find out when reading entries. I was more hurt by his actions than the name change. Pissed about the name change, yes. I was promised many other things none of which came true. I was introduced to this guy by someone who I consider to be a really upstanding person. So I trusted him. We had made plans for the future regarding horses. THIS is what made me so upset. I can’t quite figure out how some of you understood this perfectly right away and some of you are just so dense. Maybe it’s just the “I’m going to be as mean as I can to make myself feel important” high school syndrome!!!

Just have to say, I especially love the people who make up crap just to be able to write something, or don’t read well enough to comprehend!!! Too funny!!!

So no Michelle, unlike you not looking for attention just trying to get people talking about things that may or may not be important to BREEDERS as this is the SPORT HORSE BREEDING forum!!!

Taking my Mother F***ing horses and leaving now!!! ROTFLMAO!!!:winkgrin::winkgrin::winkgrin:

And breathe … :slight_smile:

Not quite sure what you are referring to here, Maggie! Monica has been busy photographing all day yesterday at the Young Horse Show in Wellington and riding youngsters for a trainer and editing her photographs today. Reading this thread or COTH for that matter has not been high on her agenda this week!

She got some smashing ones of the horse you bred, by the way. He really is stunning from the photos!

OMG - freak out much?!

While everyone knows your intentions were of a purist vein in naming Backstage MF, unfortunately generational differences can mean that something innocent to you, may not be so innocent in the culture of the up and coming generations.

A dyke used to mean a ditch or levy… Now, not so much. Vernacular changes and in today’s technological world, faster than it used to.

With horse shows being frequented by people of widely varying ages, it’s best to play it safe and I believe that’s what Michael was doing by changing the name. Someone younger may have pointed out the “street” meaning of your chosen name. Best to err on the side of caution than to generate the wrong kind of publicity.

So, it wasn’t about being disgusting or perverse, but to give you the perspective from the other side which you clearly did not want to hear. I hope you’ll come to see that your ranting here did you no favors in terms of professional polish. COTH forum posts come up in Google searches and I have a feeling this may come back to bite you in the future.

Oh, and my name is Kate by the way. :wink:

Edited my post to change Monica to Michelle, keep getting you two confused!!! Sorry.

Kate, I am not freaking out, I am laughing…hello??? Ranting??? Wow…where? I do appreciate your explanations but I don’t really think we are on the same page. I don’t consider an exchange of opinions ranting.

What part of I am amused and obviously way too old for the new meaning of words do you not get? OMG!!!

Also added another paragraph.

This guy sounds like a real Backstage…

I didn’t get the whole street name reference so I went to urban dictionary… Hahaha. Oh yeah, check Lone Star or Jersey Boy too.

Maggie, you have really nice horses, this colt in particular is really nice, despite his ridiculous name Enzos Odyssey.

I’m sorry but I didn’t necessarily get the “I’m amused” vibe from this:

Irreverent group that we are, even we are all a bit disgusted by some of the comments made about the name Backstage MF…I don’t know where some of you sickos come from but I know of no other meaning to the word backstage. Frankly, I don’t want to know what disgusting meaning some of you have invented.

Your liberal application of exclamation points also led to the impression of hysteria.

Yes, you said you were laughing at those of us who are “gross” but the fact is, we didn’t invent the terminology. Blame the kids who are currently in high school - they’re the one’s with the perversion. I choose to stay abreast of such language fads so that I don’t find myself in an awkward social situation. It’s more about what not to say than how to work it into my vocabulary.

Oh, and just a simple PSA - Do not name a horse Percolate or Percolator MF. And when in doubt - urban dictionary. F’reals yo.

Clearly I am REALLY behind the times! When I do this !!! it means, to me at least, that I think what I have written is funny. Or out there…but not hysterical. Guess I need to go back to school!!!

Going to check out Urban Dictionary right now. Thanks so much. I have a feeling we are not going to get too much riding done tomorrow when I bring my laptop into the barn to show everyone Urban Dictionary! LOL!

I think I’m changing the name of my farm to White Tree Farm. Can’t wait to show my homebreds with my new suffix!:lol:
:lol::lol::lol:

Just visited Urban Dictionary! OMG I don’t think I’ll ever be the same again!

If I go by this dictionary I’ll have to change a few more names myself.:eek::eek::eek::eek:

Wow, if I had known this, or if the new owner had pointed this out, I would have MADE him change the name. It is disgusting though (this example) and kinda sad that the English language has been so distorted.

Sure is going to make naming more difficult for the future.

Lifetime numbers!!!:yes::yes::yes::yes:

Hey - maybe your new suffix could be SMH! :lol:

Middle Island Lippizan Farm… :lol::lol::lol::lol:

Sorry… It’s late and I’m punchy and I just can’t help myself!

I know, I hear you Snowflake, I am feeling mischievious too.

I see your Middle Island Lippizan Farm and raise you American Super Sporthorses…

OMG, you guys are killing me!!!:lol::lol::lol:

American Super Sporthorses wins so far. A group of us are starting a new sport horse development alliance and are are trying to come up with a good name. I think this is the WINNER!!!
