i’m really impressed by a lot of the riding and sportsmanship in these second rounds
So happy for Karl and Caracole. I’m glad they got on the same page. It was a great round! Let’s keep it up USA!
Do top 30 after this round move on to the individual final? If so, Karl might given himself a chance to sneak in with that clear…
He’s in 14th place and I counted 16 left to go so I think he is in
If he does, it would seem like a miracle after yesterday.
I’ll never forget some advice that I think McLain Ward wrote in a COTH column some years ago about how it’s so important to have “amnesia” when on course, i.e. to not let the fence you just rode affect the fences you’re going to ride. The ability to take that and apply it to whole rounds or days of competition sounds beyond difficult. Major kudos to Karl for staying in the present and making it work.
Mexico is starting to produce a lot of riders with excellent positions. I wonder who’s coaching them.
McLean has really, really evolved over the years to become extremely strong in his mental game. On top of everything else he does right.
He works with a sports Psychologist. A very very good one.

If anyone is having trouble with the video feeds the CBC sports livestream is working great! English commentary and no buffering so far .
This is a profile by one of his sponsors, so of course there is some product placement involved.
But it has a lot of interesting information about McLain’s operation behind the scenes. His right hand man has been working with him for 35 years, since McLain was just a kid. 35 years! In the horse business, that’s like 300 years. Lol.
Thanks for the info! And welcome to the BB!!
Or as Ted Lasso said, “be a goldfish.” McLain is amazing in that it’s clear he’s able to do just that. As you said, it’s hard to imagine coming back and putting in a round like Karl’s with America’s Olympic qualification in the balance and after the start he had. So impressive
Not sure if he still is but last I heard Mark Laskin left Canada & was hired in Mexico.
But that was a couple years ago.
I literally laughed out loud at the commentator starting his sentence with, “A clean round from this combination… is not going to happen” after the horse had the first jump down. Way to make a conversational detour. Lol.
Interesting breeding on the Argentinian horses - two by Chacco Blue and one by Conthargos who sired Chacco Blue.
I wonder how the Canadians go about picking their teams since Ian is the chef and his daughter is a contender for one of those slots.
NICE round by Truman. And as always love that Team Millar has decided that MIPS equipped Back on Track/Trauma Void helmets are the best headgear for them.

Canadian Amy Millar had a composed ride.
And Kent pulls it off!
