Whoops I posted in the other thread. Historically has the US ever had this much trouble qualifying a show jumping team?
Not sure but frankly watching today, if thatās the best team the US can field then they donāt deserve to be at the Olympics and this is a much needed wake up call.
The top three teams that are not already qualified for the Olympics get to go to Paris, right? So does anyone know which countries are already qualified from this group?
Just Brazil
Ruh roh. Thanks.
Laura with a much-needed clear and USA into fourth for now. ETA: bumped down into fifth. Lots of work to do!
Laura and Dorado just had a beautiful round! What an athletic jumper he is.
Yay!!
Funny that she still ended up behind McLain. He must have been very quick.
iām worried!
If Brazil is already qualified for the Olympics, that means the US is in fourth place of the teams that still need to qualify.
And those four teams are pretty close together on the scores right now.
For those interested, from FEI.org:
At the Santiago 2023 Pan American Games the countries chasing qualification for Paris 2024 will be Argentina, Canada, Chile, Colombia, Ecuador, Mexico, Uruguay and USA.
Do other countries use a selection system like the USA?
Would Ridland have picked this team if he had his choice?
Go Team
What a wild day. McLain was definitely going for a quick time, which kept him in the top 10 overall, and Laura Kraut saved everyoneās bacon. Kent having 2 rails was definitely a surprise, but Karl Cook, WTF! His track was way off the line, the mare was basically aimed right at the standard and never got her eye on it, Iām not sure what he thought was going to come of that. Heās lucky he didnāt come off when she hopped over the fill and he was almost on her neck! Then she decided she should be in charge LOL. IMO there was no chance of trying to worry about hurrying back to the track to make up time when he couldnāt even stop or steer her. It was a disaster! If he wasnāt our drop score, it wasnāt going to matter what his time was. Fingers crossed we crush it tomorrow and someone elseās team has a worse day!
Karl was embarrassing. You would think he would have a bridle and control figured out, and the first thing I said was āWhat even is his track? If you can call it a track.ā Mcclain was definitely riding for time. Lauraās horse was amazing, and she was amazing. Iām worried for our teamā¦.
I was actually wondering what happened from the Chronicle write up.
Thanks for the explanation.
I personally never thought Karl rode well enough to be on an Olympic team. Itās just another caliber up. I do like him, he seems like he takes great care of his horses. He looked so nervous, he was running with no track, he caught the wall on a complete angle and thatās why the block came down. I kind of feel bad for him. They should put Lillie in.
I love Karlās horse. When theyāre together, sheās impossible to beat. I thought they were a bit green of a combination to hang our hat on for Olympic qualification though.
Agree. I thought there was several other people who have more experience and a better track record to use for our team.
He hasnāt had this one that long has he? Why isnāt he riding the other one? I wonāt be too hard on him because I think heās come a really long way in a relatively short time and he really seems to care about his horses. I think a lot of people love to hate him and I donāt quite know why.
I think the US has been giving a whole lot of young riders chances to ride on teams lately because we canāt keep relying on the same four or five legends that weāve always had, so itās not surprising that we are in the spot we are right now regarding getting to the Olympics. It wonāt be Karlās fault if we donāt get there no matter how this competition turns out.
