How about a Pivo camera system?
I second the nice saddle pad idea. Or go full matchy matchy and get a full set. This is my first time full leasing a horse so I feel like everything is necessary right now and not a splurge.
Splurge? Safe-on Flex-on stirrups in my cross country colors.
I have the Helite and highly recommend. Dada Sport makes fantastic, stylish jackets and shells for it.
I treated myself to the lightweight “All Weather Rider” from Asmar Equestrian & I’m thrilled with it- super flattering & practical!
I’m not much of a saddle pad person, but I have been eyeballing those wool and velvet saddle pads by Kentucky!
Makes sense to me!
She is a Q-T
Re: your halter question.
I got my mini a Walsh leather/brass yearling size & had local saddlemaker/tack repair guy add a clip for the throatlatch & take off extra length from the crown.
On sale from Dover at Hoosier Horse Fair for $12. Could.Not.Pass.
For my Hackney Pony (horse weanling-sized head) I got a cheap web halter that says “Shetland” when I was in Holland* 8yrs ago. Thinking of it as a joke that would wear out.
Murphy’s Equine Law: it has not.
*if you ever go, Do Not Pass Go W/O visiting Eppeljeck!
Short of completely remaking it, my burritos would never fit in a yearling ever I could probably get both of their heads in a single yearling halter.
Well, that would be one way to train them as a pair
Mini probably has a burrito-sized head, but the bar-gain was too good to pass up. I figured I could resell if it didn’t work
I just gotta say - I use the heck out of my Butet phone holder. No regrets!
You know LM Boots was having a sale a while back, and I ended up getting two new pairs of fun custom boots–nothing too wild but enough for the trainer to say “those stay at home” I have had nothing but excellent experiences with LM Boots and cannot believe I was prepared to pay so much for off the rack, not great fitting boots when I could get custom, perfectly fitted boots for less. They’ve got a great web app so you fool around with the look of the boots, too!
ETA I totally get the pandemic splurge btw. One of the things I remarked on a bit earlier this year is that I used to express myself through fashion. Now that’s not really a thing with WFH, and I’ve had to find other outlets (like boots, lol).
Ooooh!
Those are FUN!
I put together a pair including a fancy top panel, piping & silver initials for $990
Now where is my Stimulus Check…
Maybe a little less traditional, but I’d recommend getting some private pilates (equipment) classes. The new core skills notably improved my riding. ETA: Will also help with the mom bod!
Also attending clinics is also a productive way to splurge
Mmmmmmm, so am I to take it the Butet phone holder is worth the $? The cute envelope one? Chime in, enablers.
I confess I finally splurged on a Hadfields bridle. Have to keep people in business, after all, right? And I missed a whole season of competing last year.
I have taken “pandemic splurge” to a whole new level. I’ve purchased a new saddle, new boots, new LeMieux pads, two new helmets, and am currently purchasing a new horse. I might need to slow my roll…
Anyways, I too am a mom (plus a full time employee). This past year has been a trip on the struggle bus. So honestly, I don’t feel too bad about treating myself.
SAME! I should also definitely slow my roll. I’ve gone on a horse therapy bender, including a PEMF pad for the horses to stand on (absolute best purchase in a long time to counter the hard ground), PEMF/Massage blanket, cold laser.
Yeah, it’s out of hand, but so are some of the distances I show my horses, so I need to make it up to them you know?
I bought my kid a horse because she’s outgrowing the ponies… at least that is what I told her dad
I immediately took over riding him and she’s not getting him back.
Ever.

PICS?? I need to see stay-at-home boots haha.
After remote learning with kiddo and hubby and I both working remotely- I feel no guilt stealing my child’s horse
I did order one of the Samshield Matt Collection Miss Shield helmets from Europe, and I have no idea when it will arrive, but somehow that still isn’t scratching my itch…and I just got new Pioneer tall boots Christmas before last, so I def don’t need anything there. Just can’t figure out what might actually get me excited to go the barn…right now, with the cold and the wet and the COVID and the kids, it’s just all kinda been a drag…and buying a new horse right now isn’t in the picture. :-/
So I’ve had the black with brown piping for about a year and a half and was just obsessed by how well they fit (I have really difficult feet and ankles to fit). Got the other two pairs when they were having an excellent sale. My only caveat about the floral tooling is to not get it on the heel snap if your horse has sensitive skin. Mine does, and it just took the hair right off him after one ride. Not a huge deal because he probably spends 50% of his life in a bellyband and corona anyway, but still something to note.
I’m debating about selling the non-equestrian boots I have (which is a collection) since I’d still love a pair of brown field boots, and my work has now gone full-blown work-wherever-you-want remote (read: I wear slippers 90% of the day). However, I have to question my sanity over four pairs of tallboots. It would be one of the more ludicrous and excessive things I’ve done. If we don’t go to any shows, and I get the raise I’m due at work, maybe I’ll consider more seriously.
