I have been an observer of this board and have never posted until now. I find there are some wonderful threads filled with information regarding saddles, horse gear, riding tips etc. But somehow, the threads, like this one, which are bloody tedious, that go on and on, those about people, raking them over the coals one way or another, seem to get the most play? They reappear like clockwork and rehash the same old information, opinions by the same old posters over and over again. Why is that? Hasn’t all this been said before? You all have such fabulous information to share, that I, for one, have quite thoroughly enjoyed, I am mystified as to these insane, repetitive threads. That said, Mr. Valliere, whom I do not know, and would certainly not base riding with or not from reading these threads, has applied for reinstatement and was turned down by the USEF. With all the information all of you appear to possess, as a foreigner, I am quite shocked that no one has mentioned it yet. So for the love of God, end this now, and go have a pint. Then write about something useful to the readers of the board and stop debating persons, all of whom contain good and evil.

#22. Absolutely agree with Chai’s comments on the previous page.
Oh, and I’m still waiting for an apology from the poster who paints PV’s pre-indictment clients as accomplices in his crime.

saddletramp 29, I’m not sure how long you’ve been in the horse business, but if you are in it long enough, you may have the misfortune to come across a truly dangerous horse, and then you will understand the difference between a naughty horse and one that truly poses a danger to both horses and handlers. They do exist, and to pass them along as giveaways or to auction is just putting another innocent person or horse in harm’s way, and that is wrong. Count me as number 19, voting that euthanasia is the only answer for horses of that nature if they do not respond to meds/training/efforts to help them.
I know because I had one for 13 years of trying everything to help her overcome her uber-aggressive, brain-holiday behavior…trainers, turnout, herbs, diet, hormone implants… When she killed her beloved pasture mate, and started striking out at humans, that was it. She is 12 feet under in our back pasture and she is finally at peace.
If you have dealt with a horse like this, you will know that there is absolutely No comparison to humanely euthanizing a horse with extrememly aggressive/dangerous behaviors and a man brutally maiming and killing a horse just for money. None.
In 30 years of working with horses and of those 15 with major problematic horses I only encounterd one that I had to put down because of safety issues in the barn after he killed a groom all the others got turned around. It is funny how most problematic horses are problematic due to abuse and then gets put down. Killing a horse to get insurance money is just unthinkable and it amazes me that some people act as if their noses are bleeding and don’t condone it
Many people on this board were very active in circulating the petitions that went to the USEF in protest of PV reinstatement. And phone calls and talking to anyone and everyone about getting involved.
There was such an uproar over it at the time and so much action by the people here that I think it was just assumed that everyone knew that.

Even murderers of people who go to jail get out sometimes. How long does he need to pay his debt? How can he prove he’s a changed man? He is and was a talented horseman who made a huge error in judgement and regrets it big time. What should he do for a living now? Flip burgers?
At least burgers are already DEAD when you fry them.

Well said. Thank you. Off for a pint.
I dont believe he actually applied for reinstatement with the USEF. Am I wrong? He was eligible to reapply last year but never actually did.
BTW, I still wear my No Reinstatement bracelt proudly. People outsied of the horse world are SHOCKED by the story.

It shouldn’t have to get to a point where a groom is killed before a horse that dangerous is put down.

Can someone point me to somewhere this was reported, becuase is slid by me, and I would like to see what kind of statement USEF made in denying it.
Has anyone else applied for reinstatement? With what result?

People make misstakes and so did this groom. Accidents happen when anywhere and some are due to stupity. Yes the horse was dangerous and you couldn’t let your guard down but this incident happened because the groom asked for it in a way. At times I still regret having him put down.

If handling your horses is that dangerous, perhaps you shouldn’t have grooms. It’s not really fair to gamble with anyone’s life but your own. Nobody “asks” to be killed by a dangerous horse.

Look if you work in a zoo and you are told not to walk in the cage if the tiger is it in it and you still do it ,is that the tigers fault?.The guy did what he was told not to do and paid for it with his life simpel as that. Anyone working with animals risks their lives ,accidents happen. You wanna be 100% safe?. Then don’t ride and stay away from animals
OP - would you ride with Barney Ward or George Lindemann??
The bottom line is human greed (in this case, for ribbons and prestige)….which is what drove PV and the others to kill. They do not care about the animals…the horses are a means to an end for them.
I do not forgive PV or the others…and know that there are many others out there who truly do not love horses – unless they are winning. It is very sad.

To my knowledge, the USEF does not readily disclose who has applied and if they have been denied in any way apart from removing them from the lists and making an announcement if they have been reinstated. While it would be possible to get that knowledge through “unofficial” means ;), I don’t see the USEF giving it up casually as they frequently do everything they can to avoid actions that would cause embarrassed people to get lawsuit happy.
Then where did IrishRider find it?

I had not seen the previous threads on this subject, so it is not insane and repetitive for me. However, if I did see the same subjects come up over and over, I would just not bother with them. Not EVERYONE has read EVERY thread. So, really, it’s not all about you and what you want or don’t want to read. If you don’t want to see the same thing over and over, don’t bother opening the thread. Just let others glean the information you already know about.
Here are some of the reinstatement threads. Not all of them.
I didn’t wade thru them all again to see which have new (at the time) information.
