To those who still support PV, two questions for you:

 1. What pressure do you think he was under that made him decide to have a horse electrocuted?
 2. Do you think what Tommy Burns did was okay, meaning accepting payment to electrocute several horses based on requests from their owners? Why/ why not?

Here’s what they’ll say

 1. Little Susie was making him look bad because her horse wasn’t performing up to par. Little Susie needed a new horse, and they’re just SOOO expensive!

 2. Tommy Burns was a horrible person and should be shunned, because he can’t teach anyone to ride and win.

Except that it was HIS OWN horse that wasw making HIM look bad!

To the person who didn’t understand why Barney Ward is rarely discussed, it might be because he was pretty much just the agent involved. He was certainly as “famous” as PV, and other than when he got caught spectating at shows, he has kept low profile since then.
THANK YOU for noticing… I certainly already knew that but others always think we are “picking” on PV. Nope he is asking for it in my opinion.

And lesson lady…the death threats…well thats what happens when you wear a wire on your “friends” to avoid going to jail. And he was spat on…oh how horrible…what he and others did was horrible.
That would clearly violate the COTH rules against unsubstantiated allegations.
True, and I understand the legal reason…but, honestly, HOW does one find out who these people are? It’s my long standing whine, I know, but there are people who haven’t found COTH yet, who don’t know what to ask let alone whom…the “wall of secrets that everyone knows” is one of the biggest challenges to getting new people into the sport, IMO…

When I get caught]speeding, I am very very sorry…but I will probably speed again…just saying there are probably millions of others who will join me. Might have left the ‘when he got caught’ out and maybe just maybe there would have been a hint of credibility…maybe…

and to be quite honest, I am not sorry I was speeding…I am sorry I got caught. I rarely say to the cop, “darn it…I am so sorry I got caught” vs the “Gosh Officer, I am so sorry I was speeding…I didn’t notice becasue my cat died this morning and I was so upset.”

…I’m just sayin’…

Read Ken Englade’s book “Hot Blood”. The link to get it has been posted several times on this thread alone, and I think you can still get it on Amazon.
It lays it all out with charts and everything, it does everything but draw a freakin’ map.

Not if we could get the FBI list of people who could not be prosecuted because of the statute of limitations on fraud…

Ken Englade knew many of the people on that list, but couldn’t print their names, nor the names of the horses, for the same reasons.

Think about what super horses(and ponies) died during the night of colic (etc) during the 60’s, 70’s, and 80’s… and think again.

Well, Barney was never as popular as Paul… not as handsome, not as smiley and articulate… and more openly bad tempered (as well as funny.) And while killing horses for the insurance money shocked all of us, it didn’t really surprise us that Barney was involved the way it did that Paul and George Lindeman were.

That being said, if I remember correctly (since I was in the middle  ) there were a bunch of Barney threads and they got pulled (or certainly closed)…

Read Hot Blood - there are other names of people involved that still can be found in the horse show world former Vet, Dr. Dana Tripp Waters (faked Coggins tests on horses), the older Jaynes (grandfather, great-uncle, and uncle of the current young generation), Jerry Farmer, Dr Ross Hugi, Donna Brown, Robert Cheska, Joe Plemmons… the list goes on and on…

All the above names are taken directly from the lists in the back of Hot Blood - a book that should be on everyone’s MUST read list!

Horses include: Henry the Hawk (1/82) (then there is a big gap of years where people got away with it) Condino, Rub the Lamp, Belgian Waffle, Rainman, Emili’s Choice, Rouseau Platiere, Gondola, Empire, Streetwise, and Charisma.

I have no doubt at all that there were many, many more.

and that not all deaths were owner sanctioned

Sorry or ???

For everyone of them involved…

Were they “sorry” because they WERE sorry…or were they “sorry” because they GOT CAUGHT???

Huge difference…

FOIA request, anyone?

Yesiree. Many, many, many more. And some of the biggest names in the industry. Very careful people with barn help willing to take the fall - if necessary. Very smart veterinarians too. Too bad they never got turned in.

The other sad but true fact is that many horses (A circuit) die or have to be retired each year because their trainers push the envelope a little too hard with the “legal” drugs. Many BNT’s are still abusing the system.

I’m guessing you could write an awesome book (about some sad and disgusting people/events), and I would totally buy it.

Paul was handsome?? I, um, well…wow. Never would have thought that his looks were part of it. I guess I just always found him damn near terrifying.

I’ve always tried really hard not to express personal opinions on these threads, but… I’ll totally back you up on that one, SMS.

Oh but if Paul wanted to charm you, he could really turn it on…
