It just occurred to me that a person who bought an insurance policy on someone and then planned and paid to have that person killed and took the insurance money would be considered a cold blooded first degree premediated murderer and subject in many states to capital punishment.

Granted people are protected more by the law than animals, but it takes exactly the same kind of mind and morals to off a horse to collect insurance as it does to off a person.

Yeah and should you price insurance for your horse post-fraud, bet yer sweet bibby* your premiums will be higher.

Insurance co.s won’t wait around for The Law or the USEF to make their ruling. They won’t lose money, no matter what.

“Bet yer sweet bibby” is something my daddy would say.

No real comment here except to correct the time line. These occurences were closer to 20 years ago.[/QUOTE]

Well, this thread did start about 5 years ago…

Yes, and it should be kept going indefinitely. I was in college and out of the loop when this happened, and I totally missed it. Had it not been for this thread (and others), and a reference to it from the Cesar Parra thread, I would have never known. I read every.single.post, as well as the links and posts on some of those. Saved me from buying the book.

Many people have referenced the fact that there were a LOT of horses that colicked in the middle of the night at Acres Wild in the years before PV was caught. I am sure that there were many more horses and people that were involved, and the Feds were only able to prove a few of the cases in comparison.

I am also pretty sure that this unsavory behavior and attitude towards horses still occurs, and particularly with high end horses. We should all remain vigilant, and should never forget.

BTW, to me it sounds like some of these posters could be Paul and Barney . Considering the names that PV picks for his farms, I would say that Feather River sounds like something that he would think up. Slain’t sounds fairly similar to Sloan (Lindemann), doesn’t it? Just a guess, of course.

Once a human decides that killing for money is okay, he thinks that way for life. There is no epiphany for these people, only regret that they get caught.

When you write, he thinks that way for life, I thought some people would be interested to know the daughter of one of those paying to kill a horse for the insurance money (I believe she was in her late teens at the time) is Rielle Hunter (John Edwards mistress). Rielle Hunter’s given name was Lisa Druck and she rode Henry the Hawk.
Seems to me your statement rings of logic.

She has a website now: http://nancybanfield.com/

STA, I read that somewhere…guess icky evil genes run in that family.

Cannot BELIEVE this thread started back up. Popcorn and margs, anyone?

Sadly, your dad and I are of the same era. :frowning:

Believe it.

This is the horseman’s version of “Meh, the Holocaust didn’t happen.”

It’s a really, really big deal to deny or minimize that chapter of human history. It’s a big deal in the present and for some pretty decent moral and political reasons. IMO, this bit of our horse history has already been whitewashed to a great extent. That event-- not the original crimes-- is the thing that forces people to pick sides and go to the extremes of caring too much or caring too little.

Some people get drunk in order to forget. Don’t get too wasted, ok?

So glad this was bumped once again as a reminder for everyone. Like someone said it makes a showing at least once a year. I’m pleased…

It is important that the USEF knows that people do still care about this. This thread serves as a very good reminder.

Sorry to laugh, but really? You’re guessing the possible alters?

“Slainte” is a very well known irish toast to good health…
And "Feather River’ sounds like “Acres Wild”?

Along that lines, then so does “Sleepy Hollow”, “Moon River” and “Wuthering Heights”

…and back the regularly scheduled debate.

OK, admit that I haven’t read the whole thread.

But is is SO sick that people that have been convicted of killing horses for insurance money are still allowed to make their living off these animals. What is wrong with USEF?!

I used to live in Chicago, where there were a whole lot of people caught/convicted for this. One that stands out in my memory is Freddie Vazquez, who broke his horse’s leg with a crow bar for $15,000 insurance money. IIRC, he got a ONE year suspension and is currently training, riding, and showing. HOW can anyone ride/train with someone who would do that to a horse???

In my opinion, none of the people you speculate to have made comments would bother to take the time to come up with an alter and compose a reply. Look at the shortcuts they took to make money.

This is horrible! :frowning: I guess people were right about how this thread makes an appearance every year or so…I had to reply to this. I just can’t believe people who ELECTROCUTED horses for money are still allowed to make a living as a horse person. How do they sleep at night?

PV is giving a clinic at FCHC in August…
