Pegasus World . . .

Yeah the horse has speed, yeah he’s a monster, yeah he has an impressive stride. I agree, he is a wonderful horse. I guess I need more than 6 races to get on the band wagon. Don’t take it so personally.

I’m still hoping for a Keen Ice upset. :encouragement:

Not even on the same planet.

Results, please? I’m at the vet’s office and away from TV.

Arrogate won with ease … California Chrome ran badly and was basically eased . Sad end to a wonderful career.

Arraogate in a canter.
Shaman Ghost 2nd
Neolithic 3rd

Chrome had nothing when asked on the turn and Espinosa stopped riding him in the stretch.

Arrogate wins!

I didn’t get to see the first part of the race - the hell happened to CC? I don’t think he’s been that far back for a long time, if ever. I am pretty sad for Art Sherman - I’m an Arrogate fan, I love the horse, but I also would’ve liked to see Art win one last one with Chrome.

I’m not sure what happened, but wow…started all right then just completely fizzled out. Just tired, you think? Hopefully he’s okay.

Such a heartbreaking ending for Art Sherman. I was really pulling for CC going out with a bang. Hopefully CC cools out ok.

Big congrats to Arrogate & his connections. It wasn’t quite the dazzling display I expected, but it was really nice race.
Maybe Arrogate will be the next super star.

Both Chrome and Arrogate were stalking and poised going into turn. Arrogate went, Chrome had nothing. Chrome was below par, no doubt, but he would have to have been better than his best to beat the winner.
Arrogate is a monster.

The others were no match for Arrogate. IMO he could be the best horse of the decade. And, he was chill going in, he was chill during, he was chill afterward. He has more to offer than I could ever imagine.

Chrome looked slow and off his stride at the start, to me…then settled into it about halfway…then lost his stride again and just wasn’t “there”. Sad to see his last race be a disappointment, but he’s been a great horse and I hope he sires well.

Arrogate was just plain incredible.

AP and Arrogate would have been a fun race to see.

Unfforgettable,

I agree. For whatever reason he wasn’t the same CC as in past races.
He didn’t look himself in the paddock or loading either. He’s always a fairly cool customer during saddling & warm-up. Yet he was kicking out in the paddock & acting up a bit there & then bulked before loading into the gate.

Not to take anything away from Arrogate, he deserved his win as he was by far the best horse out there today.

I feel badly for Art Sherman, I wish he could have seen Chrome go out on top. CC’s career is still quite the achievement though, nothing to sneeze at. Happy retirement to Chrome, he did great overall.

Keen Ice was fourth. And yeah, when I saw Espinoza going to the whip on Chrome just past the half, I knew he was in deep trouble. Arrogate showed good hustle bursting from the rail post, relaxed on the backstretch, shot away from the others turning for home then won being geared down. Final time was 1:47.61.

I saw Arrogate’s Travers live and I’m still gobsmacked by it. I kept saying, “What? WHAT? WHAT?!” as I saw how far he won by, then the time he won in, then hearing he’d broken the track and stakes record. He was just some horse making his first stakes appearance that I dismissed…then…WHAMMO. (I remember the commentators saying “You’ll never get 11-1 on that horse again.” ) Just…DUDE.

Sorry to see Chrome end his career with such a lackluster performance, though.

Disappointing for sure.

So now will he go to Dubai?

If he could run on turf, there would be a lot more opportunities for him worldwide. There really isn’t much of a handicap division in the US these days to pay a horse with his talent what he is worth.

Chrome getting xrays on his right knee

Aw man, so sorry to hear that.

Per Frank Angst, Bloodhorse writer

“Art Sherman says California Chrome has some fluid on right knee. He doesn’t think it’s anything major.”

“California Chrome still on same schedule to leave GP tomorrow morning. If knee still bothering him, vet will look at it in Ky.”

I agree with Mommy Peanut - Chrome didn’t look himself before the race.

The one silver lining … this will stop the silly talk of possibly bringing him back after breeding season.
