It’s sad. Makes a thinking person doubt the sincerity the governing bodies when it comes to their supposed concern about SafeSport related issues.

Registered sex offenses would absolutely be grounds for deportation on crimes and moral turpitude. I’m surprised he remained in the country post conviction.

They are long divorced. He is no longer her business parter, it’s solely her business. She was never implicated in the child sex allegations matter. Open secret or not, oftentimes spouses are not aware of what their spouse is up to. I know, I know, a lot of you will say that’s not so but people can be pretty good at hiding their behavior or presenting an entirely different face depending on who they are facing. It’s not as if the community ever communicated with Shelley about what was going on. Lots of folks knew and said nothing. Again pretty normal human response to that kind of situation. After all, who wants to be the one to tell the wronged spouse???

Let’s not put words in my mouth, shall we? That’s a slippery slope. I simply mentioned that because of the contradiction of the comment that Scribbler wrote about not many men on sexual offenders registry for consensual high school relationships. I’ve actually known a few that were AND there’s a 24 yr old on SafeSport suspection currently. For what reasons, I do not know, but it may have very well been a consensual relationship, which was my point, or they might very well be a full-blown rapist or predator. I do not know their specific reasons for being on the list.
It can be an offense specific determination and I haven’t researched how his specific conviction has been handled. But yes, I agree most of what gets you on a sex offender registry would count.

I was never an immigration attorney, but I was informed by the local immigrant rights group attorney that in Washington, any sex offense makes legal status very questionable and I should craft another resolution. Always a challenge, and sometimes an insurmountable challenge so back to where ever they came from went my SO clients.
You mentioned the 24 year old on the safe sport list then said

Shelley Campf is a good example of what I think AlteredFalterd is trying to getting at, but doing it badly. When you are peripherally or even tangentially attached to an offender (or even directly), the court of public opinion is quick to act as judge, jury and executioner. Often without enough facts to really speak to it. I believe we’ve become hyper aware of abuse, especially of minors which is both fantastic…and at times, deeply damaging to those who aren’t actually guilty of anything. But that damage can leave people with reputations shredded, careers ended, lives ruined. I think I’m overly aware of this double edged sword as a public school teacher…where our lives are on a razor’s edge of accusation and opinion. I know many of you will attack me for this but I’ve witnessed this in our industry and my own teaching field. The whisper campaign is impossible to stop.

Thank you for saying this! My mind is also blown. Why, oh why, would COTH publish an article by SC?! The subject is certainly worthwhile. But publishing someone who, AFAIK, enabled a predator, well, that is just completely tone deaf.

I don’t personally know Shelley Campf but I saw them at horse shows and knew several of their clients. So while I don’t know their story I always believed it was a bit like Don Kerrons. He was known to have sex with his teenage students, ended up marrying the last one. Most people in their sphere knew or at least suspected. So it’s possible Shelley didn’t know but unlikely.
And that’s exactly what I’m speaking to: the rumor mill. It grinds on, fed by " I believes" and “I heards” and “I suspects”. We can never know unless one is in direct contact with a situation or person. Even then, as so many of you have pointed out here, perpetrators are incredibly good at fooling those around them.
