Is there a video? Yay Pepper!
next time she runs I am thinking road trip.
but I haven’t been in the stands yet and she hasn’t lost yet so maybe not. . .
Yay!!! Brought a tear to my eye!!!
Anybody still wanting to discredit this mare PLEASE send me a horse that will win 18 in a row anywhere, even Portland Meadows.
What an honest, gutsy filly.
Big congratulations to her connections.
One more start, for next month and then likely done with her racing career although it’s not etched in stone …
TB Times 11-10-08 “Peppers Pride to make one more start before retiring”
Allen is looking at the $125,000 New Mexico State Racing Commission Handicap on December 14 at Sunland Park as a final target for the five-year-old by Desert God.
“We’re probably going to run her on the 14th, and then our thinking is that we’ll retire her and breed her,” Allen said. “It was a great day yesterday. She’s had an unbelievable run.”
Allen, who owns Desert God with his brother, Ron, has not decided on mating plans for Peppers Pride. An out-of-state stallion is a good possibility, he said.
The dark bay or brown mare is a little less than $9,000 shy of the $1-million plateau with $991,085 in career earnings.
Still no uploads of the race on youtube.com or NTRA’s site or even Zia’s site.
An out-of-state stallion is a good possibility, he said.
Tee hee. 'Ya think?
Peppers’ connections have done well by her, but there must be a considerable amount of pressure involved at some level in attempting to keep this streak going.
Maybe to be retired after this race … maybe not
Sunday December 14th could be her final career start and a chance to walk away a perfect lifetime 19 19-0-0 but then again her connections might not want to end this glorious run just yet.
DRF/NTRA 12-9-08 "Peppers Pride adds star power "
Peppers Pride was entered in the $125,000 New Mexico State Racing Commission Handicap after breezing at the track earlier in the morning. The undefeated mare will be going for her 19th consecutive win when she starts in the six-furlong race Sunday.
“That’s a great kickoff for us,” said Harold Payne, general manager of Sunland.
Peppers Pride worked three furlongs in 37 seconds at Sunland on Tuesday, and provided she comes out of the drill in good order, plans are to run, trainer Joel Marr said.
“As long as everything is good, that’s what we’re looking at,” he said. “She’s really done well the last couple of weeks. She’s training well and wanting to go, so right now, everything looks great.”
Payne said Sunland, which opens its meet Friday, is planning to distribute posters Sunday featuring a photo of Peppers Pride in one of her wins at Sunland.
“We’re doing a poster giveaway to commemorate her possible last race,” Payne said.
Marr and Joe Allen, who bred and owns Peppers Pride, have both indicated that the 5-year-old mare is nearing the end of her career. She could be making her final start Sunday, but no concrete decision has been made, Marr said.
“We’re still looking at stallions in Kentucky and deciding what we want to do,” he said.
Peppers Pride drew post 6 in a field of eight statebred fillies and mares for the New Mexico State Racing Commission Handicap. Carlos Madeira has the mount on Peppers Pride, the 126-pound highweight, who will spot her rivals seven to 13 pounds. The race will go as the 10th, at 4 p.m. Mountain.

Las Cruces Sun-News NM, 12/12 “Popular horse may extend record-setting win streak”
Peppers Pride has earned more than $990,000 in her career, and a win in Sunday’s 10th race, with a purse of $125,000, will put her over the $1 million mark.
“Peppers Pride always seems to find that extra gear,” said Eric Alwan, who handles publicity at Sunland Park Racetrack and who has called races with Peppers Pride involved. “She’s strong, she’s competitive and she just finds ways to win. She narrowly won in a race early in her career and had she lost that one, we wouldn’t be talking about the streak right now. But she’s so capable, and the streak is great for the sport and for New Mexico.”
She is a big girl!
DRF “Peppers Pride in tougher than usual”
The race could be the final start for Peppers Pride, an undefeated 5-year-old mare who has earned $991,085. Her connections, owner Joe Allen and trainer Joel Marr, both said a decision on her status would be made following the six-furlong race for fillies and mares bred in New Mexico.
“We’re 95 percent sure this is the last one, unless something just really changed,” said Allen, who bred Peppers Pride. “We’re pretty sure that we’re going to retire her.”
Marr noted that the next race on the New Mexico calendar for Peppers Pride is not until March.
“I’d love to race her some more, but it might not be the best thing long-term for her,” he said. “She really has nothing else to prove, and she deserves the chance to be bred to a nice horse and start that career.”
Peppers Pride will be facing one of her toughest tests to date on Sunday. She is the 126-pound highweight and will spot her rivals between seven and 13 pounds.
“I think it’s the best field she’s faced in a long time,” Marr said. "You’ve got Skirt Alert coming back off a long layoff with a prep race at Zia. You’ve got one of the best New Mexico-bred mares ever in Silver Expression. …

so who would you breed her to?
The New Mexico State Racing Commission Handicap (4pm MST) is race 10 - does anyone know if this will be on TVG? I don’t see any other Sunland Park racing being aired today.
CONGRATULATIONS TO PEPPERS PRIDE - winning her 19th career start and going undefeated!
Peppers Pride looked in rare form and surged past the field after sitting in 4th then picking a few off then in the last turn moving into 3rd and then to the lead. She won in sensation style by 5-lengths. An impressive last run, if this is her last race.
Not a lot of faith in Pepper as her win pay off was $3.80
Way to go girl!!! You show em’!
Yay Hooray for Pepper! Is there a video up anywhere?
SOOOOOOOO exciting!!!
Where’s my “YEAH what an awesome race mare, what a cool thing Celebration dance” emoticon?
Hooray!!!
Great race for Pepper! She passed a million and that’s pretty good for staying in state. I can’t wait to see the breeding plans. She really has nothing left to prove–unless they want a nice round number of 20 wins.
Yep - final earnings to $1,066,085 after the 5 3/4 length victory on Sunday Dec 14th.
Trainer Joel Marr and owner-breeder Joe Allen said before the race that this could be Peppers Pride’s final start, but her performance Sunday made the decision more difficult.
“It going to be hard to decide after such a terrific race,” Marr said. “I want to thank everybody who has supported her from the $2 bettors, to the grooms, and my family. She is the best horse I have ever touched.”
Her connections have siad Dec 15th they would make the decision of retire or race again at 6-yrs old. The next race, if she so continues, would be in March 2009.
