Ditto! Very exciting!!
Go Pep!
(edited to take out my SPOILER ALERT, since the thread title says it all! )
WOOOOHOOOO PEPPER!!!
…and with that we have quite the significant year in American racing, with Pepper breaking the record for consecutive wins and Curlin establishing himself as the all-time earnings leader!
Way to go Pepper! And I don’t wanna hear any smack about her not racing outside her box. She did it and a race is a race and anything can happen!
Within the past week we have seen 2 records broken. It truely takes a great horse to accomplish this. The naysayers are out there, but the trainer knew this horse and made the right decisions to get her there. She now holds the record and I doubt we will see a feat like this come along in the near future.
Lloyd Romero got a lot of flak for keeping Hallowed Dreams in Louisiana. Kudos to the Pepper’s Pride team for keeping her in New Mexico.
It will be interesting to see what kind of stud offers her owners will receive and if they choose to keep her in New Mexico or send her to one of the “big boys” in Kentucky.
Well, kudos for a consistent filly and a well-managed campaign, but it really is like comparing high school to pro sports ;).

Gary West/Star Telegram (TX): “Asmussen on Peppers Pride”
Steve Asmussen described it as “incredible.” That’s a word the nation’s leading trainer usually reserves for Curlin, but in this case Asmussen used it to describe a winning streak of 16 races, specifically the one put together by Peppers Pride.
“I don’t care what the competition might be,” Asmussen said. “I wouldn’t care if it was 16 straight maiden races – if they’d let you do that – it’s an incredible accomplishment. It’s hard to win a race, and so many things can happen to beat you. They’ve done a great job with her.”
Up next: the $170,000 New Mexico Cup Filly and Mare Championship on Nov. 9 at Zia Park.
So exciting!!! I was so glad to get to see the race live! A nice run by an awesome mare!
It’s a small, small horse world.
Is this the filly by the stallion Desert God? I think I read that a few months ago. It’s so funny…I am an eventer and my first dream horse I ever bought was at The University of Arizona. A very tall bay filly by Desert God. She was injured and so I bred her at three. She produced a filly for me and that filly is the horse of a lifetime. A very spunky alpha mare who I love more than life. She has her momma’s personality through and through. Makes me wonder about the mind and the heart of our horses. So much of what makes them successful must be “the try” do you think?
How cool! What a nice mare!
(is that SNOW all over the infield?? )
Well, now they’re tied! Here’s hoping for a successful win #18 for Pepper!
All the articles I’ve seen say “modern day North American record” which is what it is. No one has said it is the world record
At first glance it does look like snow in the infield but rather that is white sand in New Mexico.
I concur with the big league trainers who are willing to give her all the respect and accolades possible. If anyone can produce a horse running at any level - allowance, claimers, county fairs - who wins 17 in a row please do so Golden Hare had about 12 in a row last year in the claiming ranks but was finally beat. It isn’t easy no matter what. Her connections know she isn’t running in Citation level company and aren’t whatsoever trying to infer it. Still they have a very special gal there!
So if she wins in November, that would be a world record for TBs, or merely “modern day” record? When did we enter the modern day era? Is there some other TB race record out there that her streak wouldn’t beat?
It was a fun race to watch.
I wouldn’t care if it was a winner of $3200 non-winner of a ham sandwich claiming races that racked up 17 wins in a row. It’s totally awesome!
Hell, 17 wins period is awesome, let alone in a row & undefeated.
Peppers Pride makes her next start Sunday November 9th
Undefeated 12-time stakes winner Peppers Pride will try to extend her modern North American record for consecutive victories to 18 on Sunday in the $170,000 New Mexico Cup Fillies and Mares Stakes at Zia Park.
The race for New Mexico-bred fillies and mares will be contested at one mile on the main track. The race will be part of an 11-race New Mexico Classic Cup card featuring $1.85-million in purses.
I hope she does it! How amazing!
I am hoping there will be TVG coverage?

I am hoping there will be TVG coverage?[/QUOTE]
Yep - they are already airing promotions for their coverage of Zia Park racing and Pepper.
It will be race 10 and going off at approx 6pm EST.
Not to look ahead of Sunday’s race but Joel Marr her trainer is looking at a December race as her 19th career start. That race is the $125,000 New Mexico State Racing Commission Handicap Dec. 14th at Sunland Park.
Also she might return to the track in 2009 or become a mom in Kentucky
