The gate person does not have that authority, only a Steward can.
She (usually itās a she) is responsible for getting people in and out of the ring. They do tell people (for the schoolings) that they need to leave the ring because the next group is ready. The steward does not do that at our shows. I suppose she could also report any questionable behaviour to the steward.
I think the show jumping world in the US is now confined to the coasts. If you like anywhere else you cannot do it anymore.
We are going to look at property in Europe next month- cannot wait to be able to look at affordable peaceful rural property with horse shows and amenities nearby finally.
A little off topic ⦠IMO there is no benefit whatsoever for horse or rider to show in the same ring over the same jumps week after week. Midway through WEF, the number of accidents increases noticeably. Horses are bored and tired, riders are bored and tired. Changing rings around would be difficult, but bring in new and different jumps at least. WEF can afford that easily.
Back on topic ⦠How would this scenario be handled? In the same week, a horse can show in multiple classes at WEF, multiple classes at Nonaās shows and then go to WEC and do some more classes. Donāt shake your heads, it happens. I donāt see any possible way to police that regarding class limitations.
Yes, I do feel horses are over schooled and over jumped and over shown. However, I donāt think there should be a one size fits all rule. And, no matter what rule there is, people will find a way around it. The trainer can take the horse out and school, then the barn rider can take the horse to a different warm up area and school, and then the groom can lunge it several times. No Steward can keep track of that. People are going back and forth between WEF and Nonaās shows every day. People can ride from WEF to someoneās barn in Grand Prix Village and jump as much as they want. IMO, USEF loses credibility every time it comes up with a rule that cannot be enforced. The less thought and exploration of ideas that happens, the more likely it is a useless rule. To answer your question, I do not have the answer. However, I think the USEF should table everything else, temperarily, so that the medications enforcement and punishment can become handled hard and fast with no chance of loopholes for these slimy people to slither through. You asked a good question and my answer is not a positive one, Iām afraid.
This
As several people have already explained usef already has a database run every class a horse competes in. It would be trivially easy to enforce.
If attending multiple competitions is a problem you limit people to one per week. Like every national federation in Europe already does.
What happens if the grounds is not covered by this rule so is immaterial.
The excuses as to why horse welfare cannot be enforced are ridiculous tbh.
Just coming back to thisā¦whether or not thereās an official āweather stationā, we do have the ability to check temperatures on our phones at all times of the day. Not that hard to enforce.
IMO propose that and see what happens
I believe there is already a proposal in the works with some pros involved. We will see.
Kathy Brown Serio just posted on Facebook about how incredibly annoying it is to haul a horse to a show where the division is supposedly filled then have everyone scratch and end up paying stall and show fees for a horse with no classes to show in. She calls for a refund if the division is cancelled day of.
So maybe I am not so out of the loop and I do understand how current day USHJA showing works and I am not the only one who thinks itās terrible and needs revision???
Nothing in this post changes how out of the loop you are on this topic.
I am out of the loop on how bad the hunters has become for sure since I havenāt gone near it since I stopped being paid to show hunters. I am not out of the loop in other horse sports - and Iām guessing Iām the only person on this thread whoās has direct experience competing abroad (other than canada).
Pointing out how insane the current system is and proposing change because you are able to envision a different scenario that incudes improvements to horse welfare and logistics is not being āout of the loopā. Itās being progressive.
Correction. You are NOT the only person having competed in Europe.
Thank you.
And guessing wrong.
Even millionaires whoāve shown in Europe can be out of touch.
MANY people are fine with class limits, but you canāt change class limits AND change the entire way HJ shows have run since the beginning of time because of that.
Well lets see in 10 or 15 years where the hunter divisions are and then you can decide if maybe some changes made earlier would have saved the āsportā from lack of interest, animal welfare activists and economics. Iāll definitely never step foot in the hunters again but I have two good friends who are pros and they all want change or are looking to diversify because they see the writing on the wall. One took 2 to pony finals this year, 4 last year, 8 the year before. Sheās losing money taking two.
It doesnāt seem like people want anything to be better these days or even think change is possible, just prefer to watch it all burn down while looking to the past.
Wanting or not wanting change does not even slightly have anything to do with you being out of the loop.
I am sorry your friends are losing money and are lacking clients.
I wonder if you can sponsor a horse for your trainer friends? That seems like it would help them.
Iāve competed in Kenya, England, Canada and the USA, so that would be N. America, Africa and Europe, at rated shows also.
