Please help

Most 4H parents would think nothing of bringing you an extra horse to a riding meeting or picking you and your mare up on the way.

.
This is literally how I rode for years. I was the only member of my club without a horse. Once people figured that out, an extra horse or two seemed to magically appear at meetings. It took me years to connect the dots, but I was (and am) so grateful! There are lots of good horse people out there willing to help you, Wish. Hang around enough (appropriately) and someone will take you under their wing.

If you’re very far from Whitefish, are you near Great Falls, Lewistown, Malta, Sidney or Miles City? I’m dead center in the state right now BFE and I do know people around all corners of the state if that’s any help to you.

But honestly, I know where you’re coming from, OP. It’s not uncommon at all for the farriers to pull the shoes in the fall and leave the horses alone until spring. Lots of the farriers here are old school but not all of them; it’s a matter of figuring it all out and you have the added ceiling of being at your parents’ mercy. Just do the best you can.

If you’re in any part of Montana there is 4H and a horse club, seek that out. Use the internet to learn, keep your eyes open, and seriously let me know. I live between Great Falls and Lewistown and I know a lot of horse people around the state.
Hey Cowboymom! I’m in Bozeman, but my parents are in Sandpoint so I travel the route 2 route to Idaho - beautiful. I too asked the OP (in a different thread…now I’m reading more and ) for a location thinking I could maybe send her in the right direction. I’m willing to bet between the two of us we could come up with something if this is a legit poster, which I’m doubting.

showID, you know all the stops in between! I was much the same route, from Libby to Bozeman for years, and yes it is beautiful!

On threads like this I always hope that someone can use the information, if not the OP!

Well said…I commented before seeing everything and it’s a train wreck in motion, which I usually try to avoid. If the posts are legit it can be cleared up pretty fast.

SHe has been PMing me and asking questions. She is a very sweet girl. She isn’t a troll or faking us all out. Just trying to get some help in a way she can afford until she can strike out on her own when she can drive. She is young guys and lives in BFE…I know the feeling, I wouldn’t get horsey help either if I wasn’t an adult and living in BFE either.

I’ll bet between Cowboymom and me we can come up with someone helpful in her area of BFE…her posts scream that this girl needs someone with experience to help!

I hope you can, too.

She hasn’t PM’ed me despite my offers so I guess it’s all you, KSquared!

Has anyone suggested she have her parents read this thread? There is some stuff that may upset them but the overall worry about the OP’s safety comes through loud and clear. The parents should take note that a bunch of strangers are more concerned for their child’s safety than they seem to be. That may wake them up.

Multiple people have sugested she print and show it or let them read, but those post’s were ignored by the op.

don’t worry, I did then!I’m sorry, I haven’t been able to reply!

I don’t think you should sell the horse. I didn’t read the whole thread but it was mentioned she’s very well trained, correct?
In lieu of lessons, get some books, watch videos on the internet, get your hands on all the knowledge you can. It sounds like you lack confidence w horses you don’t know and that you don’t know your new horse very well yet. Spend a LOT of time w/ her, just hanging out, doing activities on the ground, anything you can that doesn’t compromise her healing. It is very important you don’t attempt to ride her until she is 100% healed and you have the vet out to tell you its okay to ride her again. I think it will just take time in the saddle to fully build your confidence w this new horse.
Thank you supaflyskye  Ok will do! I appreciate your kind answer as well!

In OP’s defense, I don’t think I’d print that out and show it to my parents either, when I was that age in a similar situation. If the internet had been invented then I would have lost my access to it for complaining about them!

OP DID contact me and I sent her some ideas and will get back to her with some more. She is in a very remote place and might have to enjoy the company of old folks to get in some community horse time outside of 4H but since she’s here on COTH I think maybe she can handle it.

Having just lived in that general area, there are not a lot of vet or farrier options and I don’t know anyone that advertises themselves as a trainer there. There are horse people in the area though… hopefully she’s able to make a connection.

OK here are pictures, for everyone who is worried this is a scam/troll/watchamacallit. I’m so sorry it took so long, I haven’t been able to reply for awhile. Thanks for all your advice; I didn’t ignore any of it.:)Thank you!

Not sure if you all are familiar with Horse Channel, I like it alot. And photobucket wouldn’t work, neither would imgur. But thanks for your help guys! Y’all have a great day! Hope you all are satisfied, sorry if you’re not, I will try to accommodate you.

Neither of those links work.

How exactly wouldn’t photobucket work? You just upload the photo after creating an account. It gives you the links to the photos right next to the thumbnail after you upload… pretty easy…

Didn’t work. Imgur is the easiest site on the planet to work. You don’t even need an account.

hahahaha my word you are pretty funny  course i can have two horses, there a problem with that???i only have a confidence issue with the new one…!the one with fistulous withers…and money isnt an issue, its my parents that lay down the law and say its not necessary :frowning: and i DEFINITELY give them more than 2 flakes of hay, like REALLY!!and they are NOT in a muddy pasture…!we have a shelter/barn for them, they PREFER the pasture to the dry, warmer barn!!just watch them in a rain storm!!!and they hate shoes!they do NOT need to be shod!and her back is NOOOTTT oozing!!!we caught that fistula in time Lol! and duh,I’m not getting on if she’s hurt!!!wake up!!! not every horse prefers to babied;my horse wants to be a HORSe!! and my saddle ahem didnt injure my horse ;)and I still am learning,I am eager to learn!but if someone is going to scoff at me,I’d prefer you keep your mouth shut, fine if you dont, but I can smart mouth anyone as good as you just did!Sure,I may be outta place, but only if u were!!!I’m a horse-person,always will be,and I do whats right!and if there’s not a way,I MAKE a way!!like they say,“if theres a will,THERES A WAY!” sure not everything works out,but for now,I’m cruising in low gear right now, looking for groundwork and exercises to work and bond with her.there’s no reason to sell her right now,and I do have a proper place for both my horses thank you!!!
In Montana? Isn’t it snowing right now? And your western saddle that you ride without a saddle pad isn’t harming your horse? And you can afford two horses but no trainers or vets. Adorable.

The links in her Liberty thread work (or did for me) and remarks about horses seem rather consistent with the information provided on this thread.

When you and Princess are ready, Wish, you might consider posting pictures of her back (bare and with the saddle from different angles- the way explained by another poster earlier).

I would like to repeat, there are a lot of people here, who can help to assess the fit, including a professional fitter, who sometimes comes in and kindly offers her input.

If you worry about your privacy and safety (and you should), keep the surroundings “neutral” and do not show your face.

In your remarks on Horse Channel, you mentioned, she did not like you jumping up and down next to her.

It might be that she needs little more desensitizing and it might be that her withers and/or back are still very much messed up and she just does not want anyone up there!

I would definitely push as hard as I could with my parents to have her checked by vet before trying to ride her again.

No, not snowing as of now. Warmer weather has melted alot of the snow. Why? And of course I don’t ride w/out a saddle pad …why would I ride without a saddle pad???That could seriously hurt a horse!! And @RxCate and @Jealoushe, the computer was blocking the sites of Imgur and Photobucket. Ok then, I think that,in order to see those pictures of my horses, you have to be a Horse Channel member! I totally forgot about that!! The account is free, so it shouldn’t be a problem.

Yes, thanks for checking that out! Yes on the one picture I cropped off my face. OK, so what would I do if she turns around to bite me? She has done that already, and I think I am going to either keep my elbow out or have a little ‘crop’ or barrelracing bat with me, so she gets that instead of me if she tries anything. I had thought I had pictures of her saddle on her back, but I only had a few that were from less than decent angles…sorry about that! I will certainly try to get some pictures of her back, w/ and w/out the saddle on  Thanks and have a good day!
