PNWers-- Sell me a horse! Update: PPE vet near Poulsbo, WA?

UPDATE and please help me with the next piece?

I think I found the right horse way up past Bremerton, near Poulsbo. Can any of you recommend a good vet for the PPE?

I’ll leave the horse’s search criteria below. In addition, you should know that I own 'em one at a time so I want to buy a horse that will last (with good care). This horse is 5 but has about 60 days under saddle. The vet needs to be able to evaluate a WB/light breed cross.

Any recommendations… or anti-recommendations?

Thanks!

I’m going on a big ol’ road trip up I-5 (Corvallis, OR to Tacoma, WA) to see a horse for sale. For all those miles and time, I’d like to see more than one.

I’m finding the Willamette Valley to be a bit of a Bronze Medal Dressage Horse Desert, so I figure I’d just place my order with the universe and see what happens.

Here’s my wish list:

I want a horse on which I can earn a bronze medal in dressage.

That could be

A started horse with nothing more than backing and three good gaits.

A horse with good gaits and still sound that isn’t making it work in the hunter/jumper world.

A schoolmaster I’d lease and learn from for a while.

I’m not looking for a 5-figure 3 or 4 year old unless it is a filly who is exceptional and whose bloodlines someone else would want. I’m not a breeder, but I like the breed-ability as a hedge against having to own a horse for 20 years if something goes way, way wrong.

Otherwise, I’m willing to pay a fair price for a horse whose gaits, trainability and PPE are worth it.

That said, I can tolerate some quirks. I’ll need to resell it later (even if I lose money from purchase to sale), so it must vet. If I had to choose, I’d prefer a little hot to a little dull. I’m 5’1" so I’ll take a smaller horse, so long as I think it will have a market after I have gone as far as I can with it.

I have bred and raised one of my own (a KWPN hunter), and spent a lot of time in HunterWorld, usually converting horses from other disciplines to that one. I’m happy to look at horses not already doing the job I want.

I can offer:

A great track record in improving horses and caring for them well. I do have trainers to help me.

Respond here or PM me if you like. If you want to be paid for any information/leads you give, will you kindly let me know that up front? I just want to make sure I know all the people to whom I might owe a hunk of commission as I walk into any deal.

Thanks!

Pfft. Everyone stops in Tacompton. No one wants to come see me. Sad…

Never mind, he sold…

Might pm Slewdledo on here. She’s got a couple of really nice tbs for sale.

If you Facebook, the NW Rider’s Classified page is an excellent resource, lots of horses and sellers to hook up with. Have you contacted Jessica Wisdom? ( eqequestrian.com) She usually has a barn full that might meet your needs, or can hook you up with others in your price range.

I know of a big TB gelding, chestnut, in Roy. I think around $10k. Dressage trainer owned, nice boy. I don’t expect any kind of finders fee. PM me if you want contact info.

I know of drop dead gorgeous mare but she’s in the 6 figures. Catherine Reid of Reid Sporthorses in Sultan usually has at least a few nice sales horses, usually in the mid 5 figures. I’ll keep my eye out for others.

Must it be an adult, or do you have any interest in youngsters?

At the moment I only know of weanlings I think, but will ask around.

Heck ya, I’ll come see you, especially if you let me crash at your place. If this is Tacompton, I call dibs on the bath tub if we hear gun fire. Otherwise, I can bring some grass-fed beef and sugar-free BBQ sauce that is the bomb.

Thank you for the suggestion. Perhaps this search will break my epic resistance to FB. I am learning that it’s the new place to sell horses.

I do know about Jessica Wisdom’s sales barn, but I think her prices are too rich for my blood…. unless the horse was extraordinary.

I know it costs 5 figures to get a horse to 4 years old and going nicely for a decent ammy……'cause I wrote all the checks for the one I bred. But I’m not sure I want to pay that now, as unfair as that is.

You think she wouldn’t mind passing me onto others?

Yeah, I think I need one going, or close to it. I don’t have a foal pasture-type place that I know/trust in Oregon.

<ears perk> Sugar-free BBQ sauce?

There is a TB/Welsh mare listed on the FB page mentioned above. Small, but sounds interesting. In Belfair.

Oh I’m not in Tacompton. I’m on bucolic Whidbey Island…where we had a shooting last week and an armed bank robbery the week before  But I gots a spare room and there are some nice ponies on the island!

Jessica has a billion connections, and can point you in other directions if she doesn’t have what you need. FB really is a great sales resource…you don’t have to have hang out reading memes and watching cat videos if all you need is a horse to buy! I know of a cute TB gelding with a ton of potential, small and sporty with a good start, good brain, already looked at as a dressage horse by a few…but really when you are 5’9", a 15.2 horse isn’t going to work…

Earline’s BBQ sauce. It’s a little family-owned Oregon thing (but they winter in AZ). If you are serious about checking it you and want to buy some from me at cost, I’ll ship you a jar. It’s not expensive. I bought a case recently and now I realize it’ll take me forever to drink it all. Or I can hook you up with them directly. They are very nice to deal with.

Actually, Calvincrowe just reminded me that there is a really super looking OTTB for sale at Emerald Downs right now. One of the nicest movers I’ve seen off the track and looks like a really good egg. If you’re open to OTTBs let me know and I can get info and see if he’s still available. He was going to be there until this weekend, not sure where after that but I can find out.

These videos are super short but they give you an idea.

Oops! Should have read more carefully.

I have never been to Whidbey Island and it’s on the To Do list. Glad you guys can advertise your share of crime, along with “pretty.”

Life is busy right now, so I might not have time for a hang out that doesn’t include Horse Bait. It seems like everyone in the PNW tries to cram in all events before it starts raining at the end of October and life as we know it stops.

Yes, I’m open to OTTBs. Yanno, buying those horses is so straight forward….like ordering the numbered meal at the drive thru as opposed to going to tapas or dim sum.

That one looks good, but his videos are hard to judge. All horses look good turned out wild on springy footing. And I wish I could see a tad more canter. My only reservations about an OTTB is a canter that’s a tad too flat for DressageWorld.

But yeah, he looks cool, and I’d check him out. PM contact info or details if it’s not too much trouble?

Oh! Oh! Oh!! I think there is a WB for lease on Dreamhorse, in our area!! Hang on, see if I can find it.
