Poodle breeder recommendations?!

Many people seem to like them on COTH so I figured I’d ask here. Standard or miniature, preferably light colored (ie not black). Pet quality but want to buy from a quality breeder. Thx

The Poodle Club of America website is really good and offers tons of great information. Check out the links for both Breeder Referral and Affiliate Clubs (each of whom will have their own breeder referral service.)

I should also say “east coast preferred” though driving is not a problem for the perfect dog.

I second contacting the poodle club of America. Screen breeders for health testing (especially eyes, hearts, and hips) and for using proven stock (either conformation or performance). I think it’s awesome you’re interested in supporting ethical breeders!

It so happens that we are getting a miniature poodle this weekend from a very highly recommended breeder: Richard Bohannon. He has Aery Poodles (see this link: http://aerypoodles.net/ ). He is in the Asheville, NC area.

I believe from our puppy’s litter there might be a silver male left. Our puppy is “blue”.

This thread is very timely as I have been researching breeders of my next standard.

Sophie on here has a lovely, light colored, standard poodle from a breeder (after her show career). She is located in Maine, so maybe PM her to see where she picked up her poodle?

Not sure if you can see this, but here is her poodle. https://scontent-dfw1-1.xx.fbcdn.net/hphotos-xpa1/v/t1.0-9/12308701_985136044890989_8928455695452478214_n.jpg?oh=63101fda5b540a756a087e01ccc9464f&oe=5718CD33

If you are willing to feed a raw diet, here’s one not far away in NJ: http://www.parrishill.com

Willing to ship? I know several in WA and do a few more in MT. We have a standard and two toys. Toy breeder in Utah, if you’re interested.

No toys. Either a mini or a small standard. We had toys growing up and want something larger this time. Ideally large mini, small standard. It would be awesome to find someone who does agility with theirs, but that’s not an absolute requirement.

Oh that is a cutie

The standard breeders I know of are probably on the larger size. Our female is 70 lbs +/-. But there’s always smaller ones in litters. Coplar Creek Poodles in WA is where I got mine.

She’s in previous puppies, 4th row black with pink collar in the snow. Also 2nd row sitting by two rocks.

This one is in the Philly area - if she doesn’t have what you want I would imagine she could point you in the right direction. An acquaintance has one of her dogs and does agility. Good luck! I had a toy poodle about 20 years ago and he was such a neat dog.

I was already looking into her, thanks!!!

You want a foo foo dog ?!!

I have recently gained a respect for them, intelligent, clean, people centered and lithe.
I especially like the straight clips, so much more dignified.
Do they get along with cats or are they higher “prey drive”?

This is not for me, it’s for my parents but I will be starting the dog. We had toy poodles when I was a kid. Ours were wonderful with the cats, and the cats loved them.

Ours are fine with the cats. I’m not sure if the toys think they’re cats, or the cats think they’re poodles. The standard is fine to/with them, but is not careful about them. She mows 'em down if they’re between her & whatever she’s doing. She mows down the toys too. The GSD holds his own, although he’s almost 13, so is unsteady if she bumps him very hard.

You have to post pictures when you find one. I looked at the “Available puppies” page when I copied the link here and my stomach dropped when I saw those poodle puppy faces. I want one. I’m in the process of convincing myself that my setter would love a poodle puppy sometime in the next year or so.
