Poodle breeder recommendations?!

[QUOTE=SCM1959;8725188]
Hello Dewey, I see from your profile that you are in SE Georgia. Richard Bohannon is near Asheville and it would be well worth your drive to see puppies when he has them. Our Blacky who came to us at 8 weeks is so good! And Dolly, who went home at the age of 9 months with the OP’s parents, is apparently a “real doll”.

Our veterinarian is very impressed with Blacky and has remarked more than once that he is a real quality dog. We are just happy that he is exactly what Richard told us – very bold and fun loving, not shy at all. We wanted him for our five year old son so that he would have a fun, playful puppy/dog that was smart, easily trained and did not shed (that part for me!). Blacky can go and go and go and go and go and in an instant, can switch it off and cuddle on the couch with me. He is too big for showing which is why we have him vs. him being sold as a show dog.

I have no connection with the breeder except to say that based on Blacky and Dolly, I do highly recommend him!

Thanks. I actually looked up the site the first time someone posted the link in this thread. I have no doubt that the dogs are beautiful and well bred. However, I am looking for a standard. I love all poodles, but I am definitely a standard poodle person. This will be my third. Our last one died several years ago; it always takes me a long time to get over it, but I am ready to puppy shop!

I currently have 2 Standards which are the 3rd and 4th Standards I have owned over the years. My older girl is 8 1/2 and my young girl is 3. I am heavily into performance with them. We train and compete in agility, rally, obedience, barn hunt, etc. in multiple venues - AKC, UKC, CPE, WCRL, CDSP, etc. My older girl has also lure coursed, has a HIC on sheep and is a therapy dog. Both are from the same breeder who I just love for so, so many reasons that I couldn’t possibly post here. She is so ethical and so caring about her pups over their lifetime. She does all health testing (and is in SC). I will be looking for another puppy in about 2 years and will absolutely be working with her again. If you want to let me know what you are looking for in a Standard puppy, your timeline and color (it can take months to years to get what you want depending on breeding schedules) I might be able to refer you on.

I don’t have a particular timeline. I have just started looking.

I admit that my favorite poodle color is apricot though I know they are hard to find. Color isn’t that important overall although I’m old-fashioned and will stay away from the breeders who have parti-colored dogs. I want a dog who meets the AKC breed standard though I will not show the dog. I could compromise on size; if a dog is slightly under the required size for a standard, that would be OK.

I did contact one breeder who has no litters planned for next year but referred me to a SC breeder. Might be the same one you mean.
