Pregnant riders support group? :)

I’m sorry for the confusion. I meant that Nickelodian and I actually have the same first name. A name that’s only recently become common (IMO) thanks to a couple of recent successful movies. And while I gave a hint in a previous post at what I am thinking about naming my son, it doesn’t start with an R (or end in a Y).[/QUOTE]

I gotcha  and yes, actually, our name (in the traditional spelling anyway) does end with a Y! We picked Riley Cadence but we’re still figuring out how we want to spell Riley, I like the Ryleigh spelling the best so far.

Beau, so sorry about your loss :frowning:

I would like to share that I rode (WTC) my friend’s super quiet hunter prospect the other day and I think I am still smiling. My balance was a little off, and I didn’t really ask much of him, but I was surpised to find I wasn’t as out of shape as I thought I would be after 10 weeks out of the saddle. And my full chaps still fit with one minor alteration (extra snap added) to the belt!

Even though it’s not super clear and you can’t see how big the smile on my face is, I love this picture because that’s my mare in the background observing.

Yay drmgncolor! You’ve inspired me, my mare is a no go due to greenness, but I have a good friend with a tried and true QH that her husband Cowboys off of, I might try and sneak him out for a nice quiet ride this weekend.

You look fantastic, BTW. Hope you’re feeling as good as that looks!

I am so sorry, Beau. Thinking of you.

Did you take a ride this weekend??? It felt soooo good. And many more people than not were supportive of my decision to go for a ride. My parents were thrilled that I got to do something I love… my in-laws, not so much. They would be perfectly happy if I would sit completely still for the next 4 months with my feet up and didn’t move except to eat and use the restroom.

Unfortunatley, I got a dreadded call from my OB on Thursday. Based on my 21 week ultrasound, I am being referred to perinatal specialists so they can assess my placenta and the risks of delivery. They are not concerned with the health of the baby. He’s fine as far as they can tell. But with my issues, my OB feels that I might be better off delivering at a large hospital (rather than my regional one) who would be better prepared to deal with any post delivery uterine/placenta issues I am likely to have.

He told me from the beginning that I might not keep my uterus after delivery. Now he wants the specialists to make the call as to the best birth plan for me… Honestly, I really don’t care either way. I just want to live through it and if delivering at a high risk facility with a planned c-section is the best course of action for my health, then so it will be.

We decided on a name. And I will admit, the first time I heard DH refer to him by his name, my heart hurt a little.

My horse decided to show a glimmer of his old obstinate self last night, and I could NOT get up the courage to pick that fight with him…my coach says she really earned her money last night  Nothing terribly dramatic, but when he decides he’s not going forward, he’s got a whole bag of tricks to avoid working. At 13 weeks my risk tolerance is already way down.

I did get in some decent trot work and a little canter which actually helped my stiff back, feeling pretty good today despite my ride not going as planned, and looking forward to the next ride.

I just need to make it to the end of the month to ride with our German coach, then I can let my guy out to pasture until after baby. After a full winter and Spring of Serious Dressage Training, he can use the break. I hope my back holds up.

Sticking with the same name?

You never know - I am with a maternal fetal medicine specialist based on a bunch of risk factors. So far so good but it’s nice that they’re taking every precaution. Plus I get to see the little one every 2-3 weeks. Expensive bonus, but bonus nonetheless.

Question - those that are close in due date to me, how much is your little one moving? Mine is non. freaking. stop. bubble bubble bounce bounce jab jab bubble bubble jib jab jib jab bubble. rinse and repeat. I am a sound sleeper thankfully, but if I do wake up, there he is. It’s almost 24x7

Yep. Sticking with the name. It’s always been his name… just needed him to finally come along.

Little S is moving all. the. time. It’s kind of distracting to be in a meeting a work getting kicked from the inside. Most of the time, he seems to be chilling in the lower abdomen. I’ve only felt him up towards my ribs on the right side a few times.

I too am usually sound sleeper, but he has woken me up a few times.

Yep, kind of strange to think about the consequences of my actions no longer affecting just me.

Oh mine has been a dancer from the get go but now I swear, I don’t know what what’s going on in there, maybe she’s paying soccer with my bladder? It’s non stop action! Varies from little wiggles (which to me are the most crazy and distracting) to giant kicks and flips. For the most part of the day she’s down low and then after work she moves up high and on my left side lol so insane feeling! Can you all feel/see your babies move from the outside yet?

Covered a bunch of beginner lessons for my trainer last weekend, and when I got home and pulled my boots off, I was very surprised to find swollen ankles and a very clear indentation where my socks were. Eek! Obviously, I needed a pedicure that afternoon for therapeutic reasons.

COTH’s Sara Lieser has a lovely piece on riding and pregnancy:

Kick on, girlfriend! I stopped riding at one point mid-lesson about 22 weeks or so when even posting the trot just didn’t feel comfortable anymore; I’m jealous of those of you still in the tack. Cheering for everyone who made the decision that was right for them and their family, however it came out.

Yes, my stomach looks like a gurgling volcano! Little busy bee in there, with lots and lots to do. Hard to imagine something that’s just over a pound making so many waves!

My cat LOVES to lie on my stomach and feel the baby moving. It’s pretty cute actually.

I am 32 weeks now. Havent ridden for a few weeks. I am not huge yet, still wearing my pre pregnancy shorts and other clothes. I have actually lost a little weight but my little one is growing fine. I was diagnosed with Gestational Diabetes, so I kind of get a get out of jail free card when it comes to gaining the weight most dr.s want you to gain. Other than the hated GD, everything is going pretty well. I did stop riding at about 28 weeks, was just getting pains similar to a kink in your side that some people get when exercising, but mine were/are lower. I get them while walking and esp while walking on a horse. I might get on for an occasional stroll still, if i ever get motivated to tack up my girl.
So I’ve started thinking about recovery, after the birth. I know everyone is different. Wondering how long it took most of you to get back in to “work” after birth? I’m less concerned with the riding. That will come when i am ready, but I have a very busy lesson schedule. I told everyone id take at least 2 weeks off. If the timeline plays out right the kiddies will be going back to school around then and they often take a week off from riding to get back into the swing of school. I dont want to be so exhausted from taking care of baby that I resent giving the lessons, but I also need to get back to making my only income!

Riverview - I had a normal, vaginal birth with no complications and I was back to my regular routine by the end of the first week. Physically, I felt fine by day 4 or 5. The lack of sleep was hard for me but not impossible (COFFEE). I would say the thing that had the biggest impact was breastfeeding. You are basically chained to your baby 24/7. I introduced the bottle after the first week and then had a ton more freedom.

I started riding lightly at 3 weeks and was back in training by 5 weeks.

I didn’t feel up to much of anything for two weeks, pretty uncomplicated delivery at home with my first. I didn’t establish a new routine for about six weeks. I went from working more than full time to staying at home with a baby, it was a big shift.

I also started my guy on bottles (pumped) pretty early, mostly because I couldn’t stand breastfeeding in front of people and we ALWAYS seemed to have company the first few weeks.

I didn’t start leaving my baby with a sitter for several months, but I did start riding after about six weeks and left kidlet with his dad a few nights a week. I didn’t resume any kind of serious riding for almost six months. My kid was born at the height of Canadian winter though, it’s pretty easy to not miss riding in the icy cold dark.

I had a lot of anxiety about being separated from baby at first. I didn’t like having him out of my sight. He was a very healthy, easy baby, and as he got stronger and stronger it seemed more natural to spend more time away from him.

It’s so hard to say…i didn’t have to go back to work right away. I probably would have felt differently if mat leave wasn’t a “thing” or if we were depending on my income.

Super interested to hear from the BTDT mom’s too about recovery time… and Riverview I am jealous, I am 32 weeks and no way could I think about getting on a horse right now, I am way to body sore already and front heavy. We’re getting close though!!

27 week (7 month) check in. Still feel pretty good, still riding just my BBH. Popped over a little jump the other day. shhhhhh don’t tell anyone. I hadn’t forgotten how, thankfully.

Is anyone else doing a nursery? I know it’s not for everyone, but I’ve definitely been having fun picking things out and putting it together.
