Pregnant riders support group? :)

drmgncolor I’m having the same pains, plus generally soreness in my hot pocket (to borrow a term from another thread lol) My dr didn’t seem too concerned with it, said the same thing about the baby pushing on ligaments. I have noticed the more I focus on sitting square on my seat bones (thanks dressage!) the less I ache at night…but I have a really bad habit of sitting crocked on chairs/sofas and it’s WAY worse when I do that.

Dr also recommended sitting indian style on the floor and doing butterflies (sit flat on the floor with feet together and pulse knees up and down), both really help when I remember to do them!

I have a friend who had groin pain from the way the baby was pushing on her ligaments. Your pain sounds similar to that?

My pain is more joint-specific. When I wake up in the morning it feels like my joints are on fire. Specifically the joints in my fingers seem to be affected the worst. My hands are also consistently going numb (to the touch), and if I happen to accidentally stretch my hands out in the middle of the night it makes me gasp with pain. When I’m moving them constantly during the day it is lowered to a dull ache but when still for any amount of time it feels like someone lit a match inside with some lighter fluid when they start moving again. Also affects my knees, hips, feet, shoulders, elbows. Oh joy.
As to the groin pain… possibly. Sometimes I have a hard time peeing, even when I really have to go because I think the baby is cutting off the flow. This has been on-going for a while, but getting a bit worse as he gets bigger. I’ve been tested for UTI’s… always negative.

EEEk on the joint pain. Mine is localized to my hips… which I have always had issues with outside of being pregnant. But they will wake me up in the middle of the night gasping in pain. During the day they seem to be ok, so maybe it’s the position I have to sleep in… rotating from one side to the other since back sleeping is out. Therefore, my hips get no relief whatsoever. It doesn’t matter if I’m laying on that hip or not… both hips still throb and like you said, feel like they are on fire sometimes.

I have the exact. Same. Thing.
I’m going to a physical therapist to address it within the next week or so. It really is the worst! The middle of the night stuff is nearly unbearable.
Once I go to the PT, I will share what they say to do to help:)

No soreness in the hot pocket area due to pregnancy… now what I caused by waxing, is another story. LOL.

Please do check back in with an update.

Thanks to everyone. It’s good to know I am not alone.

Checking in. I haven’t really been posting but lurking here and there. Today marks exactly 1 week from due date for me, and OMG am I ready for this baby to get OUT!

One thing I’ve learned for all you ladies asking about weird symptoms…nearly everything you are experiencing is “normal”. No one else you know may have experienced it but that does not make it abnormal or mean it is an emergency. So calm down, and just mention it to your doc the next time you talk to them. If you area really concerned then give them a call. There are seriously hundreds of ailments and annoying symptoms of pregnancy and each woman, and pregnancy, is different. Some examples of things I have been experiencing that no one else I know has ever had or heard of (these are all “normal” symptoms according to the Doc): Fluid/edema in the tummy below the navel that is tender to the touch, pelvis feels like the bones are grinding together (because they are), left thigh going numb/tingling/feels cold after standing for long periods or walking too long. Gosh there’s been so many more things but that’s all I can think of right now. You honestly forget most of the stuff after it goes away, which is a good thing. Also, the heat is a major factor when it comes to swelling. What I found works the best to reduce it is laying down a lot and spending as much time as possible in the pool.

Anyway, good luck to everyone! I hope you all have healthy and “easy” pregnancies and births! Fingers crossed that I start labor SOON!

Oh, and ladies…start doing squats! Lots of them. The deep kind like you’re peeing in a stall. Lol! They really help during pregnancy and during birth (I hope). They help to lengthen and strengthen your pelvic floor making it more elastic, which also means less problems after delivery.

First, congrats, second call the doc (I seem to be in the call the doc camp on this thread but I have yet to make that phone call and regret doing so). I am not a dr nor do I play one on TV, but one of the first questions they ALWAYS ask in appointments is if I’m having any swelling of the hands or feet. Preeclampsia is a real thing. My doc has said to me that she’d rather hear from me than not for anything.

Also, here is what I have told myself. If I don’t like something, I change it. If the vitamin you’re taking is not working, donate the bottle get something different.

They are talking about inducing me early due to some joint related pain I’m having, I don’t want to induce but I also don’t want to get thrown into full level Rheumatoid arthritis either.
ugh Rheumatoid pain is not fun and if you can avoid developing full blown RA do what you have to! I have a friend who’s had it since a pretty young age and it does not look fun.

I’ll give my clinic a call today about my swelling to see if they want me in sooner than my appt next week. Its much improved today but better safe then sorry right?

I am taking a natural child birth class (terrible idea, don’t ask). One of the things that I did actually learn was to go pee, stand up literally LIFT you belly for 10-20 seconds, then try again. It has helped immensely with the frequency of having to go and the feeling like I can’t get it all out.

For me the reason I start hurting is that my joints aren’t moving. I too have overall hip problems, though they haven’t gotten worse.

I fixed the hip pain, but I must admit that it came at the hefty price tag of a brand new king-size Tempur-Pedic mattress. So worth it though. Now I’m only waking up 5-6 times a night to pee, not every half hour because my hips hurt so badly!

Checking in- 11.5 weeks now, still so early! Feels like it’s dragging (and I still feel good!). Had my first dr. appointment last week and heard the heartbeat, very exciting! First ultrasound is next week- can’t wait! My fatigue is waning just in time for my horse to go lame from an abcess. We were going to do a 3-phase last weekend but had to scratch, and I was hoping to have a final ‘hurrah’ at a 2-phase (BN for both, btw, nothing too serious!) in a couple weeks but between my horse being out of work with my insane fatigue all July and now this, I think I’m just going to accept that once again, competing this year is just not in the cards. Ugh. Oh well, at least things are going well pregnancy wise so I can’t complain too much- there’s always next year.

Good luck to those coming up on due dates- VA H.A. hope you begin labor soon and have an easy delivery! Reading everything from you all much further along is making me dread the 3rd trimester! Hoping for smooth sailing until then.

Glad you’re doing well.

Don’t pay much attention to us, we’re mostly being dramatic. But not really. Pregnancy is hard.

Pregnancy hormones say I AM NOT BEING DRAMATIC.

now excuse me while I eat mac and cheese and drink chocolate milk (again).

How are you doing, OP? I’ve been thinking of you and hope your boys are thriving.

Officially 39 weeks today and very over it! I know that’s so cliche but so true. Making matters worse, I have 4 friends due around the same date as me (19th) who’ve ALL foaled already! Jerks! (Kidding - mostly)

The hip/ pelvic pain may also be pelvic girdle pain. Worth looking into. I find that chiropractic work and massage have been my two best friends for the past few weeks… A supportive bed and body pillow between my knees at night also helps!

She’s pure gold - don’t worry too much, we’re all pumped full of hormones and retained water. Oddly the third trimester has been my best, although my first two were miserable. Don’t stress!

In unrelated news, has anyone seen my ice cream and hemorrhoid cream?

Thankyousomuchforthis. Best pregnancy advice I have received yet. Even my doctor didn’t tell me this when I raised the issue. I tried it a couple of times yesterday and it worked like a charm.

I could hug you.

Yes, OP… please check in. Also, how are YOU, Fergs?

Hey everyone, I am 18 weeks. In my first trimester I had terrible hip pain that would aggravate me mostly at night and in the morning. For some reason, it has gotten much better. Not sure what, if anything, I did to make this happen, or if it was just the natural progression.

Nickelodian I am sorry to hear of your joint pain!! That sounds awful!!

I have just recently started feeling sensations that I am pretty sure are the baby. It definitely does NOT feel like a “tickle” or a “fluttering butterfly” to me! What I am feeling isn’t really painful, but definitely uncomfortable - like gas or cramping or something. It is exciting to feel something though.

Question- what baby stuff did you go ahead and start buying early vs. waiting to see what you get from your baby showers? It feels strange to wait until so late … like I am unprepared or something, but we are trying to save $ also.

I miss riding terribly but my mare is lame at the moment (heel lameness…) so I’ve been focused on doing everything to try to get her better. I’ve also been working on my arena and building jumps, daydreaming about my return to the ring. I have 2 pregnant broodmares also - it’s gonna be a baby bonanza at the Lucky C Ranch in 2016!

How exciting and sounds like there’s a LOT of Luck at Lucky C. Congrats and welcome.

I started feeling the sensations about 17-18 weeks. To me it felt like involuntary muscle spasms… not flutters or tickles or gas. I have kept baby purchases to the minimum. I don’t like clutter and I don’t want to buy what I don’t need. We did buy the crib at 6 months and little necessities here and there. I’m lucky that I have gotten a ton of hand-me-downs. Little one already has a full wardrobe up to 9 months… I have boxes of clothes in his closet.

I miss riding too. But I’m also in the my-mare-is-lame club so I know exactly how you feel. I’m just giving her the time off to be a horse and will re-evaluate her probably come the new year. I’ll be pretty busy until then anyway.

ETA: Check out local consignment sales. We have one called JBF (just between friends) that comes a couple times a year. It’s nation-wide so google it! They are here next week and I have a couple items left on my want list that I might just score second hand like a rocking horse.

Also, our local fire department checks babyseat fit to your car for free… so see if there is a program like that near you. We just took ours in yesterday for a check and we did install it correctly, but if this is your first baby it’s nice to have a set of trained eyes take a look at it and double check.

I remember playing that game around 18 weeks! Affectionately dubbed “Gas or baby?” It’s likely your baby moving around, but it took me a while to convince myself of that. I certainly didn’t get the butterfly or fluttering feelings that people speak of…

As for baby stuff to purchace, I bought the convenience stuff that I wanted. You’ll find that people typically don’t buy you things you register for, so anything you feel you really want/need purchace yourself. For me, the important stuff was:

-car seat/stroller (it’s important they’re comfortable and a good fit for you) and fit in your car. You’ll be amazed how poorly some seats fit in even decent sized vehicles!
-crib - I wanted a 4-way convertible to save money down the road
-soft baby carrier/backpack (fit is important)
-rocker/chair
-diaper pail
-nursing pillow

I found for my shower, I mostly got toys, linens/blankets, books, stuffed animals, and outfits. All awesome and useful, but people tend to shy away from purchasing you the more personal preference type gear. I prefered to scope out this stuff early as well, to get good deals and research more. Plus it made me feel more prepared.

Muscle spasms, that’s exactly what it feels like! Like an involuntary twitch that you can’t stop and kind of almost tickles…

We got the absolute necessities out of the way first, car seat/base that fits into the jogging stroller (the jogging stroller was a big deal for us, we’re outdoors people, it may not be for others, and then the crib. The crib took me a long long time (bless my DH who continually said, don’t worry, we’ll find one, get whatever you want) Maybe it was design thing, maybe a nesting thing, but I couldn’t find anything I liked…course at that point I was still in my happy but unhappy stage of pregnancy lol.

I recommend anything you think you are going to picky about just go ahead and get, otherwise you’ll end up with a version of it you may not like with no way of returning it (ask me about the ugly glider in my living room).

Also, if you’re breastfeed your insurance may cover all/part of your breastpump, so look into that before your shower too!

Some of the best advice I got about the shower was to create a registry just for the shower, fill it with some needed things and lot of cute things (toys, clothes, blankets, ect) because that’s what people are going to buy you anyway…and it’s easier to return cutesy things for things you need when it’s on your registry.
