Muscle spasms, that’s exactly what it feels like! Like an involuntary twitch that you can’t stop and kind of almost tickles…

We got the absolute necessities out of the way first, car seat/base that fits into the jogging stroller (the jogging stroller was a big deal for us, we’re outdoors people, it may not be for others.)

I recommend anything you think you are going to picky about just go ahead and get, otherwise you’ll end up with a version of it you may not like with no way of returning it (ask me about the ugly glider in my living room).

Also, if you’re breastfeed your insurance may cover all/part of your breastpump, so look into that before your shower too!

Some of the best advice I got about the shower was to create a registry just for the shower, fill it with some needed things and lot of cute things (toys, clothes, blankets, ect) because that’s what people are going to buy you anyway…and it’s easier to return cutesy things for things you need when it’s on your registry.[/QUOTE]

Yep. Muscle spasms.

We got the Bob Revolution. We too are outdoor people and I know so many people who got the Bob with the infant and it is still going strong as their child maxes it out. Much better than having to buy a new stroller every year or so. We got the matching car seat (hey, why not be color coordinated) and they snap right in to create a stroller system. Thankfully I drive an SUV so I can haul all that around in addition to the 2 dogs.

Double agree on the breast pump and insurance. #thanksobamama! But no one will buy you breast pump stuff for your shower. Thats all on you. Folks want to buy cutesy baby stuff, so I did exactly what ilmjumper did in regards to the registry. Returns are no hassle if the item is on your registry.

I’e decided in the future to only buy my expectant friends things on their registry that are useful. The non-fun things like the bath tub, breast milk storage bags, breast pads, etc. But I am a very practical person. Most of the time, anyway.

THIS. All this is me too. We currently have three strollers lined up in our garage, his, hers and the Bob. My mom treated us to the Bob, and I cannot wit until I can run again!!! Plus, those wheels will do great at the farm

I’m going to call that as two for me today! Yes, register for cute shit, then return it for things you need, or things that are too expensive for any one person to get. That way you know where it came from, and returns are easy.

CRTXLaw - Feel free to text me any time to chat about things and questions, you know I’m here for you!!

Here are a couple of important things I’ve learned (beyond pulling up your belly for peeing and how to register).

  1. Babies R Us takes Bed Bath and Beyond and Buy Buy Baby coupons. True story, get 20% off anything using their coupons.
  2. Babies R Us gives you 10% back in the form of a GC after your baby is born on anything purchased on your registry. Adds up quickly especially if you buy your furniture from them.
  3. Buy Buy Baby is owned by Bed Bath and Beyond. This makes for a baby store that fits my type A organized brain quite well. They are also beyond helpful in the store as compared to Babies R Us. That said, they don’t have the rewards program.
  4. Buy Buy Baby has higher end stuff than Babies R Us for sure
  5. Babies R us offers a rewards program for anything NOT on your registry that equates to monthly dollars.

I ended up registering almost exactly the same at both places to give the most convenient way to get stuff from the registry I could. I avoided Target because no coupons and no rewards. Really the coupons are key for me, that 20% off adds up to big bucks. I used it on all of my furniture, plus the 10% back (plus they used to give 10% rewards on everything) which equated to a huge discount.

Ditto on the free breast pump, I got mine directly from Medela. I can forward you the email if you want.

If you want, I am happy to go and register with you. Not that I have my baby yet, but my friend gave me all of her top recs and of course mine is coming sometime in the near future so maybe I will be better educated. The whole thing was overwhelming to me so having someone help break it down helped.

Well, at least it seems everyone’s sense of humor remains intact regardless of hot pockets, sore hips, being unable to pee and babies kicking!

I love all the tips coming in, especially about the registries and breast pumps, stretches/exercises/tips for peeing (!) etc. So very helpful for this new-to-be mom

Ugh now you’re making me double think my citi mini GT selection of a stroller. It was the easiest to fold and has 3 wheels, but not big ones. What to do.

We hike and camp a lot. So it just depends on what you do… We also have snow and big wheels are so much better in snow… And better at the farm.

I chose the Bob A while ago. Then when we went to look at them a few months ago at REI, we found that Thule and one other company had strollers in pretty good competition with the Bob. But I stuck with what I had waned for a while. (I worked at REI for almost 10 years). It’s not a small stroller or lightweight, but well built.

I bought the citi mini GT as well, and only because a friend has it and we use it all the time on trail hikes. It does really well over uneven terrain, and pushes nicely over roots/mud/hills/rocks and her little dude sleeps comfortably through our entire 4 mile hike. It’s a solid trail stroller, not to worry too much!

I also love the easy fold up feature and that it stores pretty compactly.

I just googled the citi mini and it looks like a really nice stroller. It’s actually pretty similar to the Bob.

I think that’s an awesome idea! Someone did tell me that she was getting me things “I would need but didn’t know I’d need” lol which I like too.

We got the Baby Trend Expedition elx system after trying a few different ones, it seems to work best for what we do. Now I’m on the hunt for the pull behind bike carrier  Any suggestions? We bike a lot, at least 10-15 miles a week road (and mtn bike, but obviously baby won’t be doing that!) Mostly paved roads but some dirt/packed sand too.

We’re getting a Burley, but I’m not sure which model. Likely the Solo, since we are only planning on one kiddo, but if you are planning on multiples you might want to go ahead and buy one of the double models.

We have the Burley cargo trailer and have been really happy with it’s performance.

This is all great advice! I registered online at Target but didn’t know about the coupon / discount issue! Now I am thinking I should register at Babies R Us / Buy Buy Baby because 20% off is huge! Dang. Registering took forever too. I should have consulted you first Nickelodian!

We already have nursery furniture but that’s it so far. I think we will go ahead and get the stroller, car seat and breast pump pretty soon. We are planning on the Bob stroller because of the terrain around our farm, but I’ve heard the downside is that it is pretty heavy. Maybe we will get an inexpensive smaller one too for running errands around the city, if it seems feasible.

We are also having the hardest time choosing a name! I keep waiting for the one that seems right. A name will seem right one day and the next not at all. I am sure it will come eventually - we still have a few months.

ooooo, feel like I saw one of those at a consignment shop…might have to go back and check it out! Thanks!

Debating on single or double, know we’ll probably have another kid in the future, but not within the next two-three years so, save a little and re-sell when/if we have another or just buy the double. Wonder what the difference in pulling a single vs double is. Course, if the consignment one is a double and in good shape that might end the debate!

Go single. The double is such a PITA to lug around and you never know, by the time you have a second the first might not be interested in a ride. That’s my suggestion anyway

I recommend getting an inexpensive one to take to place like the fair or other public places where you will leave your stroller unattended. My friend had her $1200 Vista stroller stolen last week at the fair :-(.

I am having twins. Does anyone have suggestions for double strollers? I have heard about the Uppababy Vista (super pricey) and the City Select double.

We ended up with three strollers: all singles.
Bob Revolution
City Mini “daily driver”
Chicco umbrella

One for each car and then the jogger, basically. I love them all

I just threw up in my mouth a little bit. A $1200 stroller? Holy guacamole.

At any rate… bike locks keep honest people honest.

Well it was a double stroller with two Chico car seats. I bought my Chico car seats as open boxes on Amazon but they were still $180 plus tax. I have been looking for a used double stroller on Craigslist but the cheapest I have found is $450 USED! When you add in the car seat attachments ($60 each x 2 ) it all adds up. There are more affordable options for single stroller…but I haven’t found any double options other than buying gently used. And believe me you want a stroller that has a car seat attachment. You don’t want to wake a sleeping baby let alone two! I have been looking for a double jogger and new those are easily $550-700 plus tax without the car seat attachments. I bought a lightly used double baby jogger but it was still $375 plus buying the car seat attachments.

I worked my way through college as a nanny to five little children under age 7…yikes! And many of the places we went restaurants, gymnastics, etc you had to leave your stroller places where there is no place to lock them up. Having a stroller stolen is unfortunately a shockingly common event :-(. Also, the really inexpensive strollers (under $50) are usually made for older children and not suitable for infants. When you are pushing two kids around for 5+ hours a day, you start to appreciate hood hydraulics. I highly suggest taking a stroller for a test drive with weights in the seats before purchasing. They offer this service at Buy Buy Baby.

For you Bob, do you like the single front wheel? Some of the joggers now have double front wheels.

That makes a lot more sense. I was picturing just a single stroller no attachments.

That sucks that it happened, and I am not victim blaming. People should be able to leave their belongings of any value without the fear of them “walking off” but sadly we don’t live in a world where that is even remotely the case. (Heck, my tack is always locked up and I trust 99% of the folks I board with.) We bought a bike lock to live on our Bob and even if we do nothing more than thread the lock through the wheels and frame, it’s at least a deterrent… hard to wheel away if the wheels don’t roll. I’m being optimistic, of course. No lock will deter a thief hell bent on stealing, but there are ways to at least make them work for it or move on to an easier target.
