Pregnant riders support group? :)

The monogram above the changing pad and dresser - I love it! the subtle equestrian influence

That closet looks super organized. I can only hope mine stays that way once we get all the outfits sorted.

Thanks again for the chair advice. Now that you made me picture the hunching in bed - I think the chair will be worth it!

We got the Target one for (I think) $299ish, plus a $50 target gift card. (And you can always create a Target registry, then use your 15% off registray completion discount for it). I forget the brand, but it’s grey. It had great reviews, was super easy to set up and is pretty darn comfortable. Having the foot part is also key. I got a cute apple pouf from Land of Nod for $50ish, and that will double as a seat for LO once he is older. I can’t comment on use with baby yet, but I sure do use it for sitting while DH is assembling other stuff in the baby room. I’ll admit the Pottery Barn ones are very comfy, but they are insane price-wise.
Thanks for the tips re: the feet support! And great idea to use a poof that can be a kid seat!

Unfortunately - all the Target stores in Canada closed out last year :frowning: I was one of the ones that really liked shopping there but apparently the sales weren’t strong enough so they pulled out of the country. So sad!

I will have to continue my search for a reasonably priced chair. Kijiji (similar to Craigslist) will be high on my search list! I’m all about a bargain!

Alright - all you ladies already on the ā€œother sideā€ - did you buy a nursing chair (glider, rocker, whatever)? And if yes - how much do you actually use it.

We are debating what to do about a chair. Buy one or not? If we do, we most certainly will not be buying the expensive ones from the baby stores - holy moly those things are ridiculous. We would be more likely to go find a rocker type from a typical furniture store and avoid the baby markup.

That said - if people don’t really find they get use out of them and are just nursing in bed at night, or sitting in an existing couch or static chair then… I’d love to save the money. But if the whole rocking/gliding movement is key I’d be up for it. Just need the rationale.
I bought a babyletto glider, and while pricey, I use it a lot- but it’s stylish enough that we will be able to incorporate it into our decor even after I’m done using it for baby.

My one dislike is that it doesn’t offer any head support for me, which might be a good thing so I don’t fall asleep in it while holding baby at 4am:) here’s what I got:

https://www.babyletto.com/bento-glider

We just bought an IKEA rocking chair - I think it was around 100 or so and felt pretty comfy at the store. We got our crib and changing table as well - all together, for a ton less than what we would have paid at a ā€œbabyā€ box store. Now putting it together…

Thanks! Steal away, I got it from pinterest. That and the rain gutter bookshelves behind my door.

I swear I didn’t mean to end up with so many things with is name on it, my friends are good to me

My chair swivels and rocks. I don’t ā€œrockā€ him per se but I like to be able to adjust around to get comfortable. Trust me when I say I spent A LOT of time in that chair, especially in the beginning. It is a specially designed chair for nursing (baby specialty designer furniture from an affluent area in my city).

So I guess what I’m saying is do not scrimp on the chair!

Even over night I would take him into his room to nurse him. Sitting in bed holding him with my back crunched over and no back support wasn’t cutting it. I use a my breast friend as a shelf and put my baby leaned up against my body, feet propped up on the storage cube, kindle sitting on the ā€œshelf.ā€ Hours and hours to read.
Your nursery is adorable!

While not on the ā€˜other side’ yet, DH and I bought a nice glider and ottoman off of Craigslist also at a steep discount to what we would have paid new in the store. The one we got was practically in brand new condition, no marks or stains anywhere on it, barely used- we paid $250 for the both, when the same chair and ottoman in a store would have cost well over $600. When we were searching, there were plenty to pick from, and we ended up with my first choice on the wood stain color and a lovely neutral fabric color that matches our nursery. It is SO comfortable! I’m sure I will be using it a lot, and DH and I both plan to keep it afterwards as we both love it. So, my advise would be to try to find something lightly used if possible.

Funny this comes up. Last week, my trainer just gave me a $$$$ glider nursing chair and footstool that she used with her son. I wouldn’t have bought one, but free? Sure.

Little man is almost 4 months old and I have used the bed and the couch for nursing. (I BF exclusively with a couple bottles here and there on beer nights.) We have a small house and I didn’t really have room for the chair. I still don’t, but it’s crammed in here. I mean it was free so why not give it a try.

In the beginning, DH would bring the baby to our bed to feed so I didn’t have to get up and now when I feed in the early morning hours, I sit on the twin bed in the baby’s room. Other times, I feed in my desk chair while I am working or on conference calls (talk about multi-tasking!) In the evenings, I sit on the couch in the living room.

Ultimately, I am not really excited about it from a feeding standpoint, although I did enjoy sitting with Little man and just rocking him the other day. I’m not sure how long I will keep it… My trainer and I plan to have a girls night with the money I get for it on CL when I decide I am done.

It seems I’m the laziest mom so far… I skipped the glider and bought a wingback recliner. I figured there’s no way to know upfront if the kid wants to be rocked, glided, swung, walked, etc so I wasn’t going to waste my money. The recliner ended up being a super win. We spent many hours sleeping in the chair with the little guy. It worked well for his need to sleep somewhat upright (belly issues) and also as ā€œquick, I need a free hand, where can I set the baby?ā€ spot if we reclined it and wedged him in the corner. Come to think of it, I slept in it a lot pregnant too as it relieved my terrible restless leg symptoms. So much awesomeness in a $50 Craigslist find.

Granted, I hate rocking chairs anyway. I don’t like rocking and I hate how rocking chairs make repetitive noises, so we didn’t plan on getting one. However, my MIL was determined to give us her old one… Which, thankfully, has yet to happen!) Do no, I haven’t used one at all. My SIL has one and rocks her baby to sleep every night/nap…And I’ve noticed she had a really hard time getting him to sleep without a rocking chair. To the point where she has to rock herself. Personally I’d see if you could borrow one to see if you liked it before I’d spend money on one.

Hi guys! I’ve been lurking on this thread for awhile and I’m finally ready to spill the beans! DH and I are expecting our first baby in early August! If you’re my facebook friend please don’t post anything because I’m keeping it off social media (except here lol) for a little longer.

According to my guesstimate of my last period, I’m 9 weeks and 3 days, but we had our first ultrasound Monday and the little bean measured at 9 weeks 6 days, which would put me at 10 weeks and 2 days today… So the official due date is Aug 15, but I’m going with Aug 9!

No real symptoms other than achy boobs and fatigue and I’ve also been lucky in the weight department. Haven’t gained any real weight and all my clothes fit fine… I really had a hard time believing I was pregnant until I got to see the baby and hear its heartbeat earlier this week!

I promised DH that I would only ride my steady eddie trail horse so I’m looking for a lease situation for my mare. I’ve got one pending with another COTHer that I hope pans out

Anyone else due in August? I feel like I’m in this weird limbo of pregnant, but not really because I have no symptoms and you can’t tell by looking at me.

Congrats OveroHunter!! Welcome to the group!

Well - I had my 28 week f/u today. Got my second round of Gest Diabetes test results back - no diabetes! Hooray!
Also had to get the Rhogam shot since I’m RHneg. They did it in my hip instead of my arm and now its all sore and I’m being whiney about it because my hips have been so sore sleeping at night. Maybe a quick hack tonight will loosen it up haha.

Also - funny how small the world is. My OB today realized that one of her delivery nurses knows me from the barn!

Congrats, OveroHunter. It’s hard to believe that one year ago, I wasn’t too far along either.

A frequent poster on this thread has a friend she boards with who recently sold her mare to my friend/trainer. That mare is now at the farm where I board. And we live states apart. Small world, indeed.

AND WE HAVE THE SAME NAME!!! lol

How is everyone doing? Expecting moms and new moms?

I am almost 35 weeks and I am at the point that life is pretty uncomfortable. My ankles are huge, I can’t find a comfortable position to save my life, and my back is starting to bother me on a daily basis. I am ready for this to be over with and get my body back, if that does ever happen.

I have been asking every mom out there, how bad is the aftermath of birth to your body. I was trying to not think about it, but I better start preparing. Any tips?

I hope everyone is doing well!

JLC - I gave birth in April of 2015. I was riding 10 days later, and would have been on sooner if we hadn’t spent so much time in Constant Care sitting with our little girl. Now, 9 months out, I weigh less than I did before I was pregnant (not that I was ever remotely heavy, but I’m about 5 lbs less), and besides a few stretch marks on the lower part of my belly from when little girl dropped quite quickly, there is no aftermath to speak of.

Keep your chin up, and just don’t worry too much. Eat well, stay busy and I think you’ll be pleasantly surprised. Best wishes!

I’m 25 weeks now. Still riding a little bit (just hacking/cruising). Starting to find sleep a bit less comfortable - belly is big enough to sag awkwardly when I lie on my side, and baby kicks a lot when I lie on my back (I think you’re not meant to lie on your back anyway?). But doing great with energy levels, provided I keep eating. More than halfway now, but still ages to go.

Small Change, you’re an inspiration! And I think/hope you’re right.

Congrats, Overohunter!

I love hearing stuff like this! Keeps my spirits up! Thanks Small Change!

I’m also due in April. My goal is to show again by August. I feel like if I can be riding even as late as the beginning of May then I should be able to get myself plenty back in shape for that.

Bit of a downer

Anyone else struggling with the pregnancy blues? I’m due with a first, unexpected baby in July, in my late 30s, and feel like everything I enjoy doing in life is slowly slipping away from me…I got the OK from the MD to keep riding, but I’m so darn tired that I can barely drag my butt to the barn. Tried to show two weeks ago, and I’m so fatigued that I can’t hold my slight freight train of a mare together. So now while I only have a few weeks left to be able to ride and jump before I start gaining weight, I can’t do it physically.

Not to mention that in this sport, I’ve already struggled with my body image, size 34 breeches, but feeling like even that will be completely lost and impossible to regain after having a kid. The last thing I want to do is be the fat one on top of the horse, especially since it’s already hard not to have the stick-thin legs.

I feel like all my aspirations for showing have been torpedoed in one fell swoop, and I’ll be completely consumed by this baby, that I was never sure I wanted, and now that I’m pregnant, am starting to panic that I don’t want.

Sorry to rain on the parade, but didn’t know where else to find other people that might be able to relate…I feel like I’m drowning a bit…worried that I’m not and never will be the mommy type.:frowning:
